On the way to a commemoration for 22,000 Poles killed by Stalin in WW2 the plane carrying the President of Poland, his wife, Army Chief of Staff, National Bank President and Deputy Foreign Minister crashed in Russia killing all 96 people on board. There is no word on reason for the crash but the plane involved was a 20 year old plane and the type of plane was not one known for being the best of the best. They had considered upgrading but were concerned about the costs involved.
Poland is planning early elections and an acting president is in place.

Also it is really sad that it happened when it did. This was to mark a huge improvement in Polish-Russian relations.
I hope this doesn't disrupt the reconciliation between Russia and Poland

If the Russians handle this well I think it can help relations further. The way the decide to reach out to Poland during the next few weeks which are bound to be very difficult can show how committed they are.
