I don't really have a strong opinion one way or another on the anime thread thing.
I don't know if I would consider it a megathread-ish topic or not. It can really be viewed at either way.
I never really looked at the thread, except when someone would mention how bad the OP was and I was curious. If it's a problem thread then I say that's up to the mods to decide if it's worth it.
so can any of you guys think of a good reason that D&D needs an [anime] thread rather than just threads about particular anime shows?
like the [one piece] thread, while it seems like kind of a dumb show, doesn't spiral into the sun the way the generalized anime thread did.
Correct me if I am wrong but don't we have a vague 'no megathread' rule and wouldn't the anime thread be considered a megathread?
yeah that is basically what i am thinking
the anime thread was iirc already there when i joined the mod staff, so i guess i kind of saw it as being grandfathered in, and anyways smiting megathreads was a little before my time as a mod and never really my thing
but really it strikes me that the anime thread is basically a problematic megathread

When there's a general anime thread, it just encourages people to make poast about the latest harem 'comedy' they've started masturbating to. When you have to make a dedicated thread, there's more of a stigma.
Like, wow, I am the guy who decided to host the thread about fucking Sister Princess. I am the head of the Sister Princess fan club at PA. I need to reevaluate my life!
Or at least that's how I imagine it. They're probably a lot more shameless.

The last time I participated in anime threads, both ViolentChemistry and Clawshrimpy posted in them.

I might have even posted a couple times, I don't remember.

I understand. How big is the forum though? It sucks, but it's VERY hard to contextually moderate. For someone to really moderate "trolling" fairly and effectively, they'd really have to be rather familiar with specific threads and posters, so modding (especially in high-traffic forums) usually comes down to obvious rulebreaking.
Which sucks, because the trolling is what really needs to be culled from such forums, but it's harder to detect. Trolling can be very subtle.
The forum as a whole is probably bigger than any one subforum here on PA but definitely not as big as all of PA, and they have sixteen mods to go around. It's just that they seem to participate very rarely and even when they do, you almost never see the kind of hands-on thing we get here - locks for clusterfucked threads, helpful advice to keep discussions on track, et cetera. Also, they give OPs huge amounts of discretion; if I start a thread called "Drez sucks," and you came in and said "I don't suck," they'd yellowcard you for being off-topic. Even in blatantly inflammatory threads.

Then why are you inviting me to play?
But seriously, I really, really don't like multiplayer first person shooters, especially on console.
So that when the war begins, we know where to look first for conscripts.
No, not really.
picture a D&D front page with anime threads faaaar as the eye can see
that is our future
we need a policy of containment
There are like whole forums for anime already anyway.
I am afraid of the cancer metastasizing into the blood stream
The whole religion thing (among other things) was holding me back for a while. It's been a nice change I think.
that kind of thing warms my heart
Maybe we could build a fence.

Will, Thanatos, and Pheezer.
My one concern is people starting like five hundred threads.
The larger issue is that certain people just aren't obeying the general rules of this forum.

What about folding it into a sub-forum of Graphic Violence? Since anime is mostly just animated manga and manga is just comic books from Japan?
And then just make sure that the most vicious and diabolical mod of all is in charge of it.

all in favor?
well see that was my fear
100 anime threads and people posting cartoon stills in chat and stuff
but it hasn't happened since the anime thread was closed

Seriously, even if initially there are a lot, they won't be sustained on the front page all at once.
Troi gets mindraped? You need to be more specific :P
