    They do a good job with the new series of just throwing new viewers into the mix. You don't really have to know a single thing to enjoy it.

    But when the daleks show up you just won't geek the fuck right out.

    This is what I'm mostly concerning myself with for my friend

    You could start watching at the newest Doctor if you are impatient.

    I would recommend watching from Eccleston though.

    At the bare minimum, get her to watch Rose and Dalek, I guess. Gives a good introduction to the Doctor and the Daleks, then it takes about ten seconds to explain regeneration.

    Maybe even The Next Doctor. That was pretty fun overall. Three-cheers-and-a-lot-of-applause-for-that-beautiful-remarkable-Doctor scenes always make me cringe, though - another thing about The Vampires of Venice I didn't like. The Doctor slips away - no one notices. That's what he does, dammit.
