I was going to say that buying pauldrons would be lame as it's out of style as one should only be protecting one shoulder these days. But then I looked back up and Tycho just used 'pauldron' so clearly he's up to date on fashions.

Panel two, panel two seals the deal.

Also, I'm not reading it like Tycho is ragging on Gabe for being too nerdy, rather that he is warning him from experience.

    Fuck off and die.

How does armor relate to "fashion these days"?

Everyone knows that pop-culture is cyclic. They just didn't realize how far the cycle goes back before looping around again.

    Apparently centuries.

Hm. We're sending soldiers to the mid east so it must be about 1100 or so.

Good news is at that rate I'll be dead by the time they get to the Renaissance again.

I remember the one renfaire I went to with a friend. He let me borrow a cloak, and we got to laugh at how bad some of the costumes were and how seriously some people took the event.

This one guy felt the need to correct me when I commented on a guy in a rock and mud suit who I thought was a golem. Turns out he was actually an earth spirit.

The only boobies to speak of were a couple of scantily clad "harlots", and a beggar woman who was like 6'0"

There are several good reasons to go to the Ren Faire

    Ren Faires are fun

and no you don't have to get all into them

I just like to eat giant turkey legs and look at swords.

I haven't been to a renfair in years, but I enjoyed the ones I went to.

I never dressed up or anything, so it was basically just like visiting a theme park.

But generally they had alright food and some neat attractions and games and whatnot.

I enjoy Pen and Paper stuff when I get a chance to do it, but I have never been to a ren faire or a gaming convention of any sort. I really couldn't say I hate ren faires as they seem like they could be fun. And the people who do the Revolutionary War reenactment in Bothell on July 4th seem like they enjoy themselves.

I don't see how anyone can dislike a GOOD renfest. It's not mandatory that you dress up or anything, good food, the Kansas City one I went to had good entertainment as well.
