Seems like the biggest reason for mace/shield over staff was the extra stone slots.
Otherwise go for whichever gives the best overall statistics.
What I did on my cleric was have both a staff and a mace/shield - staff for solo, mace/shield for groups.
I bought my assassin some armor that's like 10 levels outdated just because I didn't want him to be nekkid. My ranger stole all the Flash gear (which by the way I'm only getting because the bow looks pretty).
Also interesting to note that I don't remember having these habits until I went Elyos.
Half of all elyos armor is frigging party dresses.
And this is why I spent about 300k kinah on asmos armor skins for remodeling for every type of armor.
Asmo plate is badass.
the level 30 Asmos set, dyed with some Omblic petals I picked the past two nights.
I only play pretty sporadically though.
I'm Elyos on Yustiel and Asmo on uh...Methuskeasdadadfarearsd something.
Not that any of that will matter in a couple days.
I deleted the 38 templar I had that some gold farmer leveled up back when my account was hacked.
I think i'll start a sorc or maybe a cleric/chanter on Elyos.
Anyone have any suggestion, fun wise? I haven't played since right after launch.
I have a Glad and just made a scout(assassin) on Asmo so I so I'm good there.
I just want to know, is spiritualist fun/viable? Ditto to Chanter or Cleric.
I've never played any of the caster classes past 10, and that was only a sorcerer.
Thuuuper gay.

The dot issue is still there, however, as the above post indicates.
They are good at pvp, too, but you're just going to get killed outright by bored 50s and their decked out alts anyway.
As far as Cleric vs Chanter, which is more soloable/fun? I realize that is an entirely subjective question; but you know...mmo, there tends to be consensus for the most part on these things.
And what level, abouts, does the whole rifting nonsense start. I.E. what level can I expect to just go to an alt then I'm being ganked and camped?
Once you get to eltnen/morheim theres going to be idiots in full gold level 33 armor rifting. Your best bet is to just keep an eye on Region and try to keep out of the reported areas. Its hard to get camped, just remember theres a pve only zone you can switch to if you need it.
So, at level 34/35, is it even possible to level and gear primarily in the Abyss? I would like to do this since it seems pretty clearly to be the design intent of the game, but I don't want to just go bang my head against a wall until I burn out, if it isn't a viable play choice.
Does it vary by server? Do I have to bootstrap myself to a certain gear level before moving my obelisk bind to Teminon? Does anyone have advice for a baby Templar looking for PvP (other than "reroll <class>", I'll take that as read)?

Its possible to do it, its just rough. Until you get to 40+ and get your higher skills you're going to have a heck of a time. Unless you're already really geared, and have lots of kinah to blow on consumables, fighting anywhere is going to be a pain and being out in the abyss is just asking for trouble. Everyone i've fought has had multiple 30% flight/runspeed scrolls, and huge heal pots, so unless you have a party with you its going to be rough. On the plus side, if you run into someone without those, they're probably going to be just as badly geared as a regular leveling character so you have a chance.
There are some seriously out-of-the-way spots to grind at, if you prefer not to be bothered. And honestly, until server merges, there ain't a lot going on in the Abyss, at least on Yustiel.
Siel is very busy, though.
Merges can't come soon enough.
If for no other reason than to actually have items in the Broker.
....that's just stupid.
If they picked certain servers as having name priority people would flip their shit.
If they did something like...which character was created first people would flip their shit (you could have a level 50 that loses a name to a level 1 alt that was never played).
If they did it based on level people would freak.
There's no good solution really.
For those interested.
Whose that girly dude
Yeah, but what are you gonna do with 'em? I've had the same ten items up on the broker for three weeks now; the only thing I've sold recently is a set of worthy noble plate shoulders that I fat-fingered to 15% of market and didn't notice my mistake before they got snapped up.
I'm sure the broker is just bots and RMTers selling and reselling to each other in some kind of closed loop, at least on Yustiel.

Sorry for the late reply, I was away on vacation over the long weekend.
Yes, it is quite easy to solo in the Abyss as a level 34/35 Templar (see my sig). The trick is to do it in the LOWER abyss. If you go to Upper, you're going to get steamrolled by 50s all the time. The best places to go (as an Elyos) are the island south of Siel West and Sulphur. Both of those locations offer a very easy repeatable quest that awards over 100AP for about 20 minutes effort, killing MOBs that are level 25 to 27.
The catch is, of course, that the quests are only available if a specific faction controls the corresponding fortress. The Siel quest is only available if Elyos do NOT own Siel West. The Sulphur quest is only available if Elyos DO own Sulphur. (AS I type this, neither of these are true on Yustiel.)
There is a corresponding Asmodian quest at Siel East; they can only get it if Siel East is NOT Asmo owned. I typically will fly through there occasionally, just to see if there is an easily killed low-level rank 7 grinding there.
As a Templar, you can pretty much grind AP and XP anywhere in the Abyss as long as you watch your cooldowns, keep your speed up, and carry ONE health pot. If you don't have at least some kind of speed boost, you're probably going be run down before you can escape from anything, but between your armor and defenses, anything short of a fully geared level 50 sorc isn't going to be able to kill you before you can run away. Emp Armor, sprint, pot out of root, and run to the guards.
As far as minimum gear, for a PvP Temp: speed, speed and more speed! As a Templar, you're going to get kited to hell and back. Make friends with an Alchemist (or spend a tonne of kinah on the Broker) and buy Greater Raging Wind scrolls. Beg or borrow and buy either Expert Adamantium Boots or if you can manage to save up the AP, go for the Squad Leader Boots.
The AP boots are nearly 60k AP, though, and if you're just rolling out, you probably are going to be more interested in lower AP cost accessories like a Topaz Ring (14700 AP), Topaz Earrings (22000 AP) and Topaz Necklace (29400 AP). (FYI, the "knowledge" stat is a 0.1% per point boost in DPS against other players and the "agility" stat is a 0.1% per point reduction in DPS taken from other players.)
If you've got an Inferno or Hannet's Greatsword, you should be okay (both are pretty easily questable weapons). If you've done the Daeva quests, the Courage Sword and Greatsword are even better choices.
Ideally, by the time you hit level 35, at minimum, you should be in all blues.
Showing off the armor.
I'm a goddamn lightshow with full DP and rage. Preparing to craft more crits!
I'm really confused as to why there's a level 10 quest in Sanctum that makes you go there for the second part, when as far as I can tell the only way there is to walk through some level 30+ shit.
Is it level based maybe?
I can go everywhere but there.
EDIT: Also I don't know if the powerwiki is just dumb but it's not listing Heiron as a zone at all.
i.e.: http://powerwiki.na.aiononline.com/aion/Elysea
I found the Heiron page though; it's useless.
Level 11. The quest is level 10.
Even if I fly elsewhere.
EDIT: Incidentally; don't alt-tab out of Aion when you're flying and collecting Aether. You'll tab back in at your bind location.
