It was because as the avatar, he wasn't allowed to have a family. As everyone knows, settling down to a career, a loving spouse, and a house full of rugrats is the first thing on every 12 year old's mind, so it's pretty understandable why OOOng ran away from this.

I'm surprised they even put Blood Bending in.
With all the stuff you took out, you added a lot of unnecessary stuff(not to mention the whole Blood-bending thing was suppose to grow Katara's character and could have waited).

really? I thought she did that blood bending on the one captain guy normally, well at night but no full moon.
Keep in mind that Katara was a more powerful bender; the old crone (can't remember her name right now) was a much weaker bender than her, so she needed a full moon. Katara can probably do it at night, but not during the day. Plus, I can't see Azula giving Katara enough time to pull of the technique.
