I think it's funny that, while De Jong didn't receive a red card for that challenge, one PennyArcade user was carded for posting a .GIF of the challenge.

The refs here have access to instant replays and records D:.

Dutch commentary for the goal from Iniesta

There is a legitimate case to make for the goal to be called offside... not on the final pass but on the one the dutch defense punted back to spain 10 seconds earlier. Because the pass didn't reach the player, it's debatable if it's a call, but it's hard to say he was not "involved in the play" since if he wasn't where he was, the defenders wouldn't have wildly kicked the ball. Not to mention the whole attack came from a free kick that hit the wall, changed direction by 20 degrees, yet was given a goal kick.

That being said, NL did not play well, and too harsh, and many of the cards were deserved. Spain, especially the second half, flopped like crazy though, and really should've been carded a few times for that alone.

De Jong's kick is a tricky thing, i'm fairly certain it was an accident, which would fall under "dangerous play" (Remember we had a player go to dental surgery for a similar incident, kicked in the face, just a game ago, was a yellow too).

We're never going to get this close again I fear. Van Bronckhorst and Van Bommel are retiring, Kuijt is 29, Van Persie and Van Der Vaart are 27, Sneijder and Robben are in their prime at 26. The 'Golden Generation' is practically over.

So, after amazing us all this tournament, Paul the psychic octopus is going to retire from the prediction business. Maybe in 4 years we can drag him out of retirement for one last go around.

Sadly next go-round Paul will likely be deceased... octopi have quite a short lifespan (maybe 5 years) and likely shorter in captivity.

This is likely the only reason why Paul and his kin have not conquered the world.

Paul's first prediction set, he only got 4 of 6. Next set he gets 6 of 6, then he's suddenly no longer bound to predicting German games. His precognitive ability has been getting exponentially more powerful. I think this "retirement" is a sham to hide the truth.

I saw that this morning already but I still have to say "d'awww" each time I watch the video.

Apparently after she says "hey, we can wait for a minute and talk about other things..." he says, "No, I'd rather kiss you" or something to that effect. Then he swoops in. SO CUTE.

Bacardi gets cred for tihs one.

    Whats going on here?

The explanation is quite literally a couple posts above it!

Dude runs on to put a hat on the trophy and gets a face full of ouch.

Did they at least give the security guy a red card or are we still playing by K-1 rules?

Well, at least I get to go back to cheering against Landycakes come Sunday.

Oh, shit, we play the Sounders this Thursday. It'll be a battle of the crappy.

No, no. I'm calling us both crappy. Frankly, I think we should both be happy if both teams are able to find their way onto the pitch and not trip over their shoelaces. Small victories.

Hahaha. Look at the bright side, even if we score like 20 goals, we will somehow give the game away in the last 10min.

Haha, just read on BBC teletext (or whatever it is called on freeview/freesat) "world cup final wins 20m viewers in uk; BBC 1 peaked at 17.9m viewers with a 60% share of the audience. On Itv the figures peaked at 3.8 million, a 13% share of the audience."

ITV, you just got bitch slapped by the BBC and the viewing public.

This seems to happen every year, I guess ITV have nothing else that could gain 3.8m viewers who aren't interested in football.

No problem from this Arsenal fan... he loves Barca, and he'll return to Barca. But, he'll do so when we want him to, and for the price we want.

Funny though, you could see the look on his face when the kit finally got over his head... "Oh shit, this isn't going to go over well!"
