Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
I just finished up all 380+ puzzles in Picross...I've beaten both Layton games...I need a new puzzler. Got Puzzle Quest 2 for Live, so dont desire to buy it again. I usually only grab games for my DS for puzzle or nostalgia sake (Zelda, Chrono Trigger) or the 2d castlevanias so im sure I've missed some good DS or even Gameboy advanced games (Its a first generation fatty DS so can play those carts).
Please suggest awesome DS or GB advanced games. While id prefer a puzzler, I'll consider other types as well.
I know Knights in the Knightmare isn't a puzzler, but it does have a bunch of wonderful interlocking RPG mechanics built around your typical turn based strategy RPG bullet hell shmup gameplay.
Quite a few people seemed to miss out on this, and it's pretty crazy and awesome. The RPG mechanics take a decent bit of thought, and the battle system is insane. It's a love it or hate it kind of game with some brutal and unforgiving mechanics, so watch the tutorial videos before springing for it. I love it though, it's one of my favorite DS games ever.
Sorry, the picross i mentioned in the OP was Picross 3d, so beat that one. Also beat clash of heroes (Great puzzler game). Humm.. Will look up hotel dusk and knights in knightmares. cant view the video at work.
Planet Puzzle League, Tetris DS (if you don't mind paying for an expensive used copy), and Meteos are all excellent choices if you haven't tried them yet. Some new Tetris game recently came out for the DS, but it doesn't look nearly as good as Tetris DS.
Was there a Wii Knights in the Nightmare? I can't seem to find it. I think I'll just buy the DS version instead.
The sound of eight hooves reaches his ears, comes from the heavenly light, two wolves howls fills his heart with fear, and he sees two ravens fly. Down from the sky a warlord rides, like fire his one eye glows, and just before the preacher dies he knows his god is false.
i vastly prefer days of ruin, as far as the DS ones go. dual strike is too cluttered with the second screen stuff and the ridiculous CO power overkill. DOR takes it back a little. personally the first one on the GBA is still my overall favorite of the series, but i havent played it in a long time so that might just be nostalgia i dunno.
ALL I WANTED WAS A PEPSI
AND SHE WOULDN'T GIVE IT TO ME
I second the Hotel Dusk/Phoenix Wright recommendations and I'll throw in Trace Memory/Another Code. Plenty of puzzling fun to be found in there, even if they are more point-and-click adventure than traditional puzzle games.

I know the tutorial vids were on the Wii online thingy and I think there was a demo too. I don't think the game ever made it to the Wii though.
If it seems like something you might like, I say go for it. It has great sound, music and art. All kinds of secret shit. The battle mechanics and the whole sacrificing Knights (you can merge/feed one undead Knight with another, making one of them more powerful. Relationships are key to really make the most of this so the story is important.) can get on some peoples bad side. You can get through the game without losing a single Knight and the replay value is pretty high. Indeed, there are many Knights you can't even recruit on your first play through. The item system is great, and you can even grind for exp and weapons outside of the story by replaying battles.

I like it when they throw action in with strategy in weird ways. This fell under my radar, ironically, when I thought it was a Wii game.
Shit, I could have sworn it was on Wii, and that I had it in my hands, dwelling on buying it but backed down due to the 50 dollar price tag, being a new Wii game. I must be losing my mind.

But now I want a modern Chu Chu Rocket game with online play!

Since I see a lot of recommendations for Hotel Dusk, has anyone played the game Again? I believe it was the same team behind Hotel Dusk (Cing, who are no more unfortunately). Also, I'm hoping Hotel Dusk 2: Last Window will be localized eventually.
I am now playing OoE again because of this thread.
With big headphones.
Shanoa is bringing her Sexy Back.

*Haises hand* I have. It's not very good at all. It's easily the weakest Cing game.
I reviewed it for the site in my sig, but essentially the writing's painfully dull, there's none of the style or character of Hotel Dusk or Trace Memory/Another Code (they ditched the awesome art style of Cing's other games in favour of a horrid Police Quest 4-style FMV photo sprite animation look) and though there's a couple of challenging puzzles, it's mostly tedious spot-the-difference puzzles, a tonne of back-tracking and redundant questioning and nothing particularly memorable.
I'm hoping Last Window somehow finds a release too. Hopefully Nintendo will buy it up, though I'm guessing at this point, its best bet of an English-friendly release is as a fan translation of some kind.
Devil Survivor is the best fucking SRPG ever made and if anyone says otherwise I will rip their eyes out and force-feed them to that person. That is all.

Gamestop found me a copy of Knights in the Nightmare! Which is nice because the thing is 50 dollars on Amazon.

I keep looking at this and assumeing its like Puzzlequest (not a bad thing).
This cannot go unlimed! Clash of Heroes was one of my favorite DS games of last year, and possibly one of my favorite puzzlers on the DS. Puzzle Quest is an apt comparison, though I've always described it more as a savory blend of Planet Puzzle League, Meteos and Magic the Gathering.
The basic description is that it's a turn-based match-three puzzle game with RPG elements; you're on the bottom screen, enemy is on the top. When you make a vertical match, those units charge up for X number of turns and then launch an attack at the enemy, striking enemy units in its path and/or hitting the enemy player for HP damage. (Horizontal matches create walls, barriers that defend against attacks.) Each of the game's five races has three basic units, along with a handful of Elite units (the 2x1 tall units) and Champion units (the 2x2 big guys); you can't bring all units into each match, so you can customize your "deck" to fit your playstyle.
There's a ton of complexity that gradually opens up. In addition to leveling individual unit types and your player (which increases HP and wall skills), each main character has a different special attack that charges up as damage is dealt or received. Each player gets three "moves" per turn, but chaining combos can give you extra moves and other damage bonuses.
Some of the later boss battles can be a little frustrating due to luck-of-the-draw setups, but beyond a few flaws it's a clever, well-crafted puzzle game that, IMHO, outdoes Puzzle Quest at its own game. I can't say enough good things about it.

I will edit my recommendations in, in a second.
Might and Magic clash of heroes is a top notch puzzler and different from puzzle quest in many ways.
The World Ends With You is an absolutely amazing and novel jrpg.
Meteos, cracking little puzzler.
If you've only done Picross 3D then I strongly recommend normal Picross.
Henry Hatsworth, puzzler meets platformer, pretty novel stuff.
Advance Wars, amazingly fun RTS goodness.
I won't recommend more, even though there are more as that would be greedy of me and expensive for you
I want to know more PA people on Twitter.
AND SHE WOULDN'T GIVE IT TO ME
Yeah this is true, I dislike both genres so likely I would lump them in together

Dusk
I don't care how hard it is to find you will buy this game and you will like it
PSN ID : DetectiveOlivaw | TWITTER | SCREENED | STEAM ID | BUY SOME STUFF!
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword- Awesome action game that involves using the stylus to perform attacks and move around.
Dementium: The Ward- Cool FPS that is kind of like a mixture between a survival horror game and Doom.
Contra 4- It's Contra. It's awesome. It's challenging. Just get it if you haven't already.
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass & Spirit Tracks- Both are good Zelda titles that follow Wind Waker.
Moon- Another good FPS for the DS. Made by the same developer as Dementium.
Scribblenauts- Pretty fun puzzle game and pretty humorous.
Chrono Trigger DS- If you haven't played through Chrono Trigger from beginning to end, you need to do so and this will help.
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story- Fun Mario RPG.
Kirby: Canvas Curse- Fun and (at a few times) challenging game
Kirby: Super Star Ultra- Fun Kirby game.
Metroid Prime Hunters- A pretty cool FPS.
Hotel Dusk- Interesting mystery game.
Summon Night: Twin Age- Real-time RPG that has pretty addicting gameplay. I didn't care about the story at all. I just liked the gameplay.
Again, I made this list without knowing what DS games you already own or have already played through.
With big headphones.
Shanoa is bringing her Sexy Back.
I'd actually recommend this as well, and I typically don't go for these. Though you will probably wonder what the hell you're doing for a bit.
TylerJ on League of Legends (it's free and fun!)

Phoenix Wright, Hotel Dusk, Advance Wars, Meteos, Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, and Picross don't need it.
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)
That or Kingdom Hearts: Bunch of Numbers.
September 17th in Europe.
Oh, sweet, deep-fried baby Jesus yes.
