If you don't need the 65 more resists, suicide branch kinda edges it out. 50fcr, +1skills, +10 resist. No silly dex requirement, too.
remember you can socket both suicide branches and wizardspikes with 15 res jewels or whatever too.
whoever designed some of these runewords is a jackass, there are like 6 runewords for 4os bows, 2 for 3os bows, and none for any other amount.
I haven't found any +3 4os bows either, I kinda want to see what a "pure" bowazon is like
Diablo 2 is terribly unbalanced. IIRC a zon needs a 30frw 45ias 120ed hat which is ridiculous and a 3/2 mat or gmb faith which isn't cheap. On the other hand, a pally can be effective for practically nothing.
Edit: I wonder if a WF zon with a faith merc would be any good?
+3 skills end game for a hdin is only 1k damage.
Yeah a WF zon with a faith merc is fantastic, I used one for a long time.
WF max dex glasscannon strafezon with faith merc is the standard high-physical-DPS build. Yes, it's pretty good; it out-DPSes using Faith on the zon slightly, even, due to WF's high max damage. Try not to get hit, though...!
the dex requirement is a non issue if your going max block anyways.
I wonder if a Might/Pride(Concentration) Merc + Faith bow would be better, that guide was written 2 years ago (Iron Maiden). You need at least a lv. 13 fanat roll on the merc bow, and to avoid expensive PvP hats, it goes with Andy's Visage, but I for one don't have a 15ias/30 fire res jewel for it.
You could get away with an eth Treachery on the merc, not sure what kind of IAS you need from the hat/jewel though.
The merc isn't really intended to contribute to the DPS, is he?
Faith might still edge out Might/Pride for Multishot, though:

I recall being happy with a Ice Merc+Light Sorc for Chaos runs. I really do need to make a bowazon, the last cookie cutter build I haven't played yet I think.

Faith GMB/might+pride would definitely be worse than WF/might+pride DPS-wise, especially for strafe

Not for strafe. Your strafe breakpoints with a hydra bow (i.e., WF) are:
0% IAS 15/4
3% IAS 14/4
11% IAS 13/3
26% IAS 12/3
42% IAS 11/3
46% IAS 10/3
80% IAS 9/3

where x/y means x frames for the first attack and y frames for every additional attack in each strafe cycle (ten attacks). i.e., to hit a 3-frame strafe you only need 11% IAS! And Windforce already comes with 20%, so it hits the breakpoint automatically. Faster breakpoints just shaves off a few frames off each cycle, which isn't much (100 frames with 13/3 to 96 frames with 9/3).
For other attacks like multishot, yeah you might need Faith to hit IAS breakpoints, but the loss of DPS from WF's silly max damage is quite large.

Curious what you would use it for, the best mod on it is the no requirements. For every build I can think of, there's a better alternative for it.

I suppose you save 2 ring slots for 2 SoJs if you run Nihl often, which balances the lack of +skills. I might use it for my cowrunner, +FRW, CBF (1 more SoJ or ML ring), no MF.
And of course, my bot teases me by picking up a magical +3 GMB
e: I left out another bonus, it looks cool as shit, though I had it on my tal sorc, so looking better than Barney is pretty easy to do. I'm not usually one that cares for how my characters look, but the blue armor is pretty cool.

It is the only item you can give to an Act I or II mercenary that will give them RIP. Nihl, etc. CBF atop it is just gravy.
But yeah that's the only unique use I know for it.
Although with FA instead of Strafe Faith's aura might be more effective, yeah.
I suppose I need to start crafting some knockback gloves now, or use a Giant Skull instead of Andy's
