I'm actually already halfway through the form I was just curious if anyone was going to say "no"

EDIT: Arivia: It's 1.8 hours pay gone, actually

We don't know enough about Norse Employment law to give anything more than simple non specific answers.

See, if this was NZ I'd probably say no, as by law you are entitled to the same contract terms as union members and if it is a reasonably casual job you are unlikely to encounter serious enough employment problems so as to require assistance from such a body.

If this was the UK I'd still say no, unless you were planning to fall out with your employer. In which case, just wait till the time comes, then join.

Glorious Norway is an entirely different matter.

So, how serious is the job and how worried are you about being mistreated?

It's not a very serious job, which is exactly why mistreatment is a risk.

A friend of mine has a boss who constantly pulls illegal shit on her young and unknowledgeable employees

like, she fired one after she got back problems so severe she only almost made it to a doctor let alone work, and when she was going to come back she was just told she didn't need to come in tomorrow. She did that with all her shifts for a week then told her she was fired. That's like, three laws broken right there.

But when my friend, who knows about this stuff, calls in sick, it's perfectly ok.

Young people in these kinds of jobs are the ones most at risk for being fucked over at the workplace.

Well young people are certainly pretty vulnerable to this kind of abuse. I certainly was taken advantage of when I was out working during high school, so on that basis, it probably isn't a bad idea. However these days it is not very hard to get good, very basic employment law advice (at least in English speaking countries that I have lived in) for free. So there is always that.

application already sent because it's 1.8 hours worth of pay, and they don't just give advice they basically do everything for you should you need anything.

Also I might be entitled to higher pay.

Well if you get more money, then hoorah!

Trade Unions can be pretty neat, quite often their representatives will be like trained attack dogs working for you. Which is nice if you are having trouble with your employers.

Goddamnit, I did ANOTHER phallic doodle, complete with lazers coming out the end!

Make the balls floating robotic orbs like Darth Maul's probe droids in Episode I, and have them find the Jedi and then there's a fight and they use their light dildos to whack at each other and Natalie Portman comes out of the ship and says how bout we just fuck it out gentleman and Jar Jar takes her roughly from behind thrusting in and out passionately as his elongated tongue whips around the air out of control and C-3PO polishes her ass while making very polite assessments of her form and purposeful motions as she grinds up and down on gungan cock and then Jabba shows up and makes them fight in the pits and the loser falls into the giant vagina metaphor because George Lucas's girlfriend at the time of making Return of the Jedi gave him the herp and he was very sore about it

Or numerous other things that collective bargaining can bring since it can produce a semi-equal footing with employers that is where unions become extremely important.

Until, as was the case with the various unions I have ever encountered, they become corrupt and are just another huge drain on the workers paycheck for no benefit.

Even a "good" union can be a huge disadvantage if you are newly entering the job given how heavily they favor seniority.

I mean, it's not like she reads other trashy books

and I've been mocking them as mormon propaganda enough that she'll think a little about the stuff in it

although I think she'd do that anyway, she's a very smart girl

EDIT: Kalkino: Trained attack dogs are exactly what they are. They actually have packs of them roaming the streets looking for employers to feed upon. For serious!

The right wing was going to go after him no matter what he did, even if he put through every single policy they wanted it didn't matter. So better to go full bore and at least try to get things done and not piss off your base by giving in on the things we voted him in to do.

I am disappointed in Obama, but not enough to vote for the other side whose ideas and actions I still believe are far far worse.

Yeah, the democrats and obama have been pretty retarded about that. extending a hand and talking about bipartisanship for over a year didn't really bear any fruit.

even with the writing mostly on the wall for the elections later this year, the democrats still haven't gotten their shit together 'cause they think that going along with Obama's policies will sink them in their local elections.
