she appears somewhere in season 3, just hanging around in the background without any indication to how big a role she'll have later on. It's why I love the wire.
fave carcetti scene was in the opening of a season 5 episode:
the stunned silence when they tell him about the serial killer. and norman just laughing. goddamn, this show does minimalist stuff so well.
the infamous fuck investigation scene is another highlight. love it so
for idris elba fans, check out Luther, this recent BBC miniseries. its kind of a cliche "rogue badass cop that plays by his own rules" police procedural, but he has a weird relationship with a female psychopath. pretty fun, if a bit shallow.
also, the more i hear about Luck, this upcoming hbo series from david milch, the more pumped i get. i mean, i'm already down for anything from the deadwood guy, but throw in dustin hoffman and nick nolte and have the pilot episode be directed by michael mann? cmon!
the scene where bunk and omar meet up outside, before bunk asks omar to find the missing gun, in which the wild west 'hero' is straight up lambasted for the negative effect even his moral self has on the community
that scene could be my favorite. It's just so honest. After being constantly Oooohed and Aaaahed by the antics of the king, you can forget the kind of damage the follows in his wake.
Yeah, they have to introduce like 20 characters so it takes a bit of time to get going.
Woo, Wire thread. I could talk about this show forever.
It's a show about the worst kind of human beings, with flaw upon vice upon flaw, but the only one I don't like is Herc. And even that's because you're supposed to hate him.

I mean, its hard to make up for completely ruining randy's whole life. Plus dropping dime to the lawyer and getting Marlo free. Buying a few beers don't make up for that
I got all of my friends into the show, and at the start everybody says "it's okay", then they hit episode 7 and disapear for a few days, when I see them again they'll be on season 3

Yeah, that is the one I was talking about. I was actually feeling just as desperate as the cops looking around frantically. The episode ends and I say to myself, "Holy shit I really like this show!" .
Dude, I think I was telling you about this exact episode over in the Lost thread, iirc.
The conversation between Rawls and McNulty in the next episode is amazing. It adds so much depth to Rawls' character beyond being the asshole boss.
so does the super brief shot of him in the gay bar
ha, yeah. one of my favorite parts of this show is that for all of the gay characters it's mostly just an afterthought, instead of constantly having THIS CHARACTER IS A HOMOSEXUAL storylines

love that little blink-and-you'd-miss-it moment, didn't even notice it till i read about it online and was rewatching it
the whole series' treatment of homosexual characters is another cool thing, like it ain't no thang to the characters, its just a side thing but doesn't completely take over the character's identity like in other tv shows.
also, yeah, good point about herc. but dunno if that redeems him enough, if that makes sense. and hey, he is always good for a laugh
the only really unlikeable character on the show was cheese
him getting popped was the most satisfying death, i cheered when it happened, dang. and i am like method man's # 1 fan.
also love in interviews, where people ask meth about landing the role since a few other rappers asked for parts, and he's likelike "i went on auditions, duh"
EDIT: dangit satansfingers, get outta ma brain :^:
I'd say the only point where the show dipped was the newspaper storyline in season five. But I still love that season 'cause it gives closure to so many characters.
For example, that bit in the finale with Marlo
in jail.
One line and you suddenly have so much more insight into his behaviour over the last two years.
One of the things I like about episode 7 is the first time we see that kind of situation, its Herc, Carver and Pres at the tower blocks. I thought it was a neat 'this is how far its come' kinda thing.
Also I think I'm the only person who thinks season 2 is the best.
Posts
creepy, but hilarious
edit: spoilering it

the fella who plays the deacon, melvin williams, had his life story written by david simon (wire creator) while he was still in prison in 1987
the character of avon barksdale is based on him, in part
BET did a piece on him too, check it out: http://www.bet.com/OnTV/BETShows/americangangster/americangangster_gangsterguide_melvinwilliams.htm
well it's true
Also, Donnie (Omar's friend) is played by the man who actually inspired the character Omar. The scene in the apartment
It's kind of weird to be geeking out over a show about drug dealers and other terrible things. But it's so good.
the end

I present to you, our current governor, and former mayor of Baltimore City, Martin O'Malley!
if I was Stringer I would be so fucking furious at Avon
goddammit, man, it is not a difficult concept to grasp that we no longer need to lay people out to get shit done
almost 100% sure Stringer's gonna have Avon either killed or totally taken out of the equation
also wanna give Colvin allll the hugs

i love them so. they're both trying to repair the community in the best way they know how
e: on the deacon's advice, too.
Just started season two the other day
It is so fucking excellent
Another one.
Hey, YaYa, the ending to season 3 will blow you away.
I had only watched the first couple episodes, and it was pretty slow and I was pretty invested in doing a Lost rewatch at the time
I sat down one afternoon and devoted a chunk of time to season one and it is glorious

Meh
I got all of my friends into the show, and at the start everybody says "it's okay", then they hit episode 7 and disapear for a few days, when I see them again they'll be on season 3
because if so, HELL YES
that's the episode I'm talking about alright
whether I got the number right is another thing
The episode before it was when I realized the hooks were in
When you hear over the radio
Dude, I think I was telling you about this exact episode over in the Lost thread, iirc.
My energy was focused elsewhere
