Welcome to the world on this side.
Where'd Scirvir go? I got the sword, and he's not in the same place anymore.

I've played a build extremely similar to this that's currently SL 134, so lemme give some opinions.
1). Yeah, but you will be at a disadvantage going into the game blind in terms of item locations. I would fully recommend the Temple Knight for his Halberd. Also, with this being a faith based build, you'll find you're not wanting for mana till later on anyway.
2). You'll find that all character builds will use a mix of everything. This build is pretty balanced and survivable, so yes, that is the right assessment.
3). Like I said in 1, I recommend the Temple Knight mostly for the Halberd. With that you can be well protected until you can find weapons that will suit you better. Overall though, yes, the stat path of this build will handle the game pretty well.
4). This build seems suited to what you're looking for. The only thing I'd change is first, the target soul level. 188 is huge. If you shoot for 40/18/40/30/18/10/40/7 for your stats that's SL 125 and is much more attainable, while also straying from the downward curve per investment. Above 30-40, most stats taper off in their effectiveness. I don't understand the 30 in Str though, as a 26 will let you use anything but the Dozer Axe and the Dragon Bone Smasher with one hand... so I'd cut four points from that, bringing you down to SL 121. SL 121 is easily attainable in NG+ near the end or NG++ at the beginning.
I suppose he could want to use the Tower Shield.
And, of course, you need 36 for Brand.
As for the Tower Shield, not according to the write up. The author recommends a Knight Shield +10 and a DSS.
And, yeah, I forgot about Brand. I'm not a fan. It's jobs are done better, though admittedly separately, by different and more versatile weapons, the Meat Cleaver and Istarelle.
On a different note, Xagarath, do you have any experience with the Epee Rapier? I'm thinking of making a phalanx/magic build with it. Probably 35/40/30/22/16/40/12/7 at peak, I think that's SL 122.
Are there, by chance, any rumors of this getting a port? My internet researching skills fail me, and I fear this might be for a very good reason. :?
None.
Personally, I bought a PS3 more or less exclusively to play this game (and a handful of others, but I've played Demon's Souls over twice as much than all the others combined since getting my PS3)
...I am going to do exactly the same, ain't I. :?
Ah, well. Maybe the Ratchet & Clank series will dampen the blow a bit. I, I can stop buying new consoles. Any time I want. I don't really need to, you see?
Leavemealone
Sony published it in Japan, so it's not gonna happen, unfortunately.
If i start something in pure black, say 3-1, and get the black phantom to appear, does that mean that the blue one will reappear once i get the WT back up? I am genuinely curious, as i have never really played through a pure black world.
Really, if I could change one thing about the game, it would be the limit of 4 characters. I keep coming up with new ideas.
As an example, I'm currently determined to make a character who wields Brand and the Tower Shield simultaneously, just because.
It may make more sense to to the PWWT events first, as killing the NPCs will push your World Tendency towards black. Just make sure you've got your worlds Pure White, then unplug, kill all the NPCs (blackening your WT), do whatever else to get it to PBWT, then kill all the BP NPCs (which whitens your Character Tendency), then replug in to get back to PWWT.
I already got the PWWT, so i will be doing this. Sounds good. But what of Satsuki and the Executioner, who i already had to kill as they attacked me?
Also i was thinking about getting the PBWT just by using the Stone of Ephemeral Eyes and then suicide a bunch, seeing as i have 40 of them.
Halberds are big spears with an axe on the end yeah? Sounds interesting, never used one of those in a game like this before.
If you already killed human form Satsuki and Miralda, that just means that you'll have to use more Ephemeral Eyes to get those worlds black. I was just recommending doing the PWWT events first, as the result of doing them is that your world gets darker, so you get a head start towards PBWT.
Yeah, just suicide to get PBWT. Doesn't seem like your hurting for SoEEs (I never used them anyway, so this all I used them for).
Yep. In one hand, the Temple Knight's halberd is used in a wide, somewhat-slow swinging motion (full circle when you use the power attack). This makes it less than ideal for narrow hallways, where you will have a tendency to bounce it off the wall instead of slicing through your opponent. (Yes, the game cares about this and doesn't just clip your weapon through the walls.) That's pretty much okay, though, because ...
When wielding it in two hands, the primary attack is a straight-up-and-down slash with a bit of a lunge - it has excellent reach and is almost custom-made for beating up certain hard-to-hit-but-vital-to-kill enemies.* The power attack has a much larger wind-up time, but also a much longer lunge, giving you, again, excellent reach.

From what I've seen so far of Pure White, I think I'd have more fun in Pure Black.
Welcome to the world on this side.
Hmm is there anything else like this missable monster? I don't mind being spoiled if I can miss out on something like that.
That's not exactly how it works. Crystal Geckos are at predetermined places on each map. Once they see you they run off on a semi-pre-determined path until they finally disappear. If a Gecko does disappear, you can go back to the Nexus and when you return through the Archstone, the Gecko will return to run again.
So, let's assume a Gecko has died. Did it kill itself by falling to it's death? Unless you can get to where the corpse is, it's stone goodies are gone. Did you kill it yourself? Pick up those stones, man!
Now, you've killed all the Geckos in 2-1 let's say, but you haven't killed the boss yet. When you do kill him, if you go back the Geckos have returned! Kill the Geckos in 2-1 and then kill the ones in 2-2. Now kill the 2-2 boss and all the Geckos from 2-1 and 2-2 will respawn! Kill them again (Making this the third time you've killed the 2-1 Geckos and the second time you've killed the 2-2 ones.) then go and take care of the Geckos in 2-3, killing the Archdemon there afterward.
What now? Yup... they've all respawned! Overall, you can get 4 sets of first world Geckos, 3 sets of second world Geckos, and 2 sets of third world Geckos in each Archstone. As always there are exceptions(The Gecko at the start of 2-1 and on the ledge in 4-1 come to mind), but this stands true most of the time.
Pure White World Tendency effects:
1-1
The door on the left near the starting point will be unlocked. (Pure White or Black World Tendency).
Once unlocked, it will stay unlocked even if World Tendency changes later.
If playing online, this door will unlock after defeating Phalanx, and Tower Knight during the same online session (without a death in body form) and returning to the nexus. The dragons should also be gone from the roost.
Pick up the set of Brushwood armor at the bottom of the pit. You need to be able to carry 58 units, in order to pick it up, so bring your Ring of Herculean Strength along.
Brushwood Helmet, Wt 6.9
Brushwood Armor, Wt 17.3
Brushwood Gauntlets, Wt 10.4
Brushwood Leggings, Wt 10.4
Large Brushwood Shield, Wt 13.0
Total: Wt 58.0
In the same pit, on one of the beams is a Colorless Demon's Soul, don't miss it! To reach there, look for a broken beam near the top, walk carefully into the gap, if your direction is straight, you will land on the beam below. You can get further down by carefully dropping to a lower beam; you should line the jump up from the central beam. Walking straight and turning on the narrow beams can be made simpler by using a bow in sniper mode. See YouTube video

Tower of Latria

2F West, Lord Rydell can be rescued if you have the key from 3-2 (see below). The reward is a Dull Rat's Ring. Rescuing Rydell has no effect on his BP form (remember that Latria's Archstone will be darker due to its position at the back of the screen, so suicide in body form one more time to ensure Pure Black when going for his BP form).

Once unlocked it will stay unlocked even if World Tendency change later.

So far I can get through 1-1 without any issues killing everything but the red-eyed knight (ive done it with a thief, knight, and hunter) but after 1-1 I just seem to hit a brick wall.
I got to the tower knight in 1-2 but ended up dieing when i had him at less then 20% (I got caught by his shield slam which one shot me but it hadn't one shot me the other few times I got caught by it.) That was with my hunter. I just have a few questions:
First off i've read through this thread and have gotten a lot of information but a few things:
On my hunter I went and killed the executioner in 1-1 off the bat, when I got to the area where the dragon's roost they were actually there ( on my other characters they were not there) I assume this is because I killed her right away?
Is there a good webpage where I can see builds for demon's souls, I like to do my own thing, but I also like to have an idea of what to work on so I don't gimp myself.
For weapons, on my knight I just kept upgrading my longsword is it wise to upg the starter items like this or should I hold out for something else?
I read on one of the posts about killing the dragon in 1-2, how does that work exactly because I would love to not have that fucker breathing fire at me.
PS. Fuck the tower knight, and the armored spider.
In regards to the advocates of his former empire: “I was going to have them all executed… the Royal Advocate talked me out of it.” -Shadowthrone (Emperor Kellanved)
If you kill Miralda (the executioner), your World Tendency for World 1 turns blacker. The dragons are not there only when the World 1 World Tendency is Pure White. If you want them to go away, just log in/off a few times to let the servers adjust your World Tendency back to Pure White.
I was going to tell you to check out the Demon's Souls wiki (my go-to site during my playthrough) for possible builds, but it looks like the reorganized their build page, and now it's hard to see good builds for a certain class. Maybe someone else can point you to one.
Typically, killing the dragon in 1-2 means either using arrows (time consuming) or Poison Cloud (for magic users). I just avoided the dragon during my first visit to 1-2 and waited until I learned Poison Cloud before I returned to off him.
If 1-2 is giving you trouble, try 2-1. It may be easier for you.
I'm really enjoying my Istarelle mage. The fact that I can use Faith for spells with Talisman of Beasts is wrong.
then I don't want to be right
A gecko that disappears after spotting you counts as having died, but otherwise correct.
Nor do I.
The dirty feeling is worth it.
Three red-eye knight guardians? Seriously?
Welcome to the world on this side.
it eliminates the need to carry a catalyst and a talisman and allows sick nasty combos like one-time revival and whatever offensive magic you like (firestorm I guess)
sorry b.p. scirvir but every character I meet you on just has to kick your fucking ass
This is a fact. Being able to cast second chance and soul light off the same item is awesome. I just hate it when I let Scirvir fall to his doom, because I tend to fall to my death on those stupid platforms.
The lady black phantom has a sword that goes through shields AND can run in the muck AND heals herself AND casts anti magic field. Dammit i want that sword.
Wouldn't his body appear back on the ledge if you reloaded? Like with Yurt, if you push him over the edge. Or will that not work because Scirvir's body is located in an accessible place?
'Get your fucking finger on the wookie'
There's another sword that goes through shields in the same level if you cut down the slug nest.

You can also get Talisman of Beasts from the Mephi quests. That's where I usually get it.
It most definitely does. That's how I kill him every single time.
Do you remember where the first giant depraved one is in the level? He's at the end of a narrow walkway, that's up against a cliff on the left. The ladder is about halfway down the walkway, up against the cliff.
*goes back* *monocle* AARRRGGGHPPPPBTTTTTH.
Thank you.
