There needs to be a PAX-Central.

Like, don't create a 3rd convention since at that point I think Khoo would collapse into spasms of frothiness, but have PAX-Prime and then PAX-Alternating Regional Locale. East Coast (Boston/NYC) then Midwest(Chicago/Cleveland) then South(Atlanta/Dallas) then East Coast again.

Sweet Jesus, yes! It sucks not being able to afford driving/flying to PAX. Khoo would just spin out of trouble anyways, he'd be fine.

    Also, hi Moniker.

for like 6 months i wanted to be a gunsmith because it was gratifying to work with my hands (i actually did some machining!) but i had to rub shoulders with such unsavory people

doing math in front of a computer is the way for me!

Linear Algebra is the most incredible thing that no one ever remembers from school.

"Oh, that thing with, like, the grids that they shoved into Calc 2 for some reason? And you have to shuffle it around like a puzzle? That was neat, I guess."

None of you understand! It is the branch of mathematics that has basically taken over the world. It runs everything.

it's taught in such a way as to deliberately give the impression that it has no practical use

"Do these 40 number shuffling problems, ok, now here are some new ways to shuffle them"

It's never like, now here is how modern graphics cards and pretty much everything else works

I remember when I first started working with linear algebra extensively and I didn't really know what was up. By accident, I fed MATLAB an underconstrained problem.

It spit back a message that my matrix was deficient. Oh, I said, I'll go fix that. Wait a second, what is it doing? How is it continuing?! And then a wizard came and hid in my computer and started typing to me.

Alright, here's your answer. It's not perfect but it's p good with the data I see. I kept it close to the null space so it should extrapolate. Tolerance 10^-12.

My mouth fell open and I spent a couple weeks reviewing advanced mathematics that no one had ever told me about.

I did the A-kon thing in Dallas twice while I was going to school up there.

Was enough to convince me that I don't much like conventions.

I'm pretty sure the only reason I would go to a convention at this point is if I had a book or something to sell. :/

i am p good at math and have worked in it for a long time but i am basically convinced that eigenvalues/ eigenvectors are sorcery

like, in every math problem where you're not quite sure how to get to the result you want, the solution almost always involves eigenvectors
