Are people still playing this, or did everyone move on to Monday Night Combat. Hard Mode is quite difficult by myself :(

I just got my first serious play session in last night, so I'm still good. Planned on playing this a bit tonight, after I get out of work at 6:00 pm EST, actually. Hit me up!

I still play it. MNC isnt a bad game, But not all of us have fallen into it as hard as others. I think i personally still prefer TF2 (yes i know they are different but its still a valid game to compare it against).

my biggest gripe about MNC is that stomps and knockback effects are too powerful. I' get killed due to being knocked off the edge more then by bullets.

  • SteevLSteevL Registered User regular
I haven't even seen MNC in action. It's not that I wouldn't like it, it's more that I just don't want to be interested in another multiplayer game right now. :)

As I understand it, for Shanoa it's a matter of using her spells to level them up.

Shanoa's spells and Jonathan's subweapons both level based on the number of times they hit. So for example if you use Shanoa's lightning spell and it hits 3 times, she will gain 3 "points" towards leveling the spell. If it hits twice she will get 2, and if it doesn't hit anything she will get 0.

Picking up multiple copies of subweapons or multiple glyphs for Shanoa does nothing to advance the level.

Yup, I have all the glyphs so far except Beam. Is there any advantage to capturing multiples of the same glyph? Or does it not matter? It's been awhile since I played Ecclasia so I can't remember how it worked in that game - it might have just restored a little of your mana.

There's really no point in capturing a glyph more than once, unless you want to bind one spell to more than of the 4 magic slots. In Order of Ecclesia, gaining another glyph did increase your hearts level, but it doesn't work like that in this one. She can also get two other weapons, Lapiste and Pnuema (Earth and Wind respectively) from the boss chests in Chapters 4 through 6 on Normal. Her spells level up just like Jonathan's subweapons, through use. It's not based on kills, it's based on hits, so just keep using them. Also like Jonathan, each time one of your spells gains a level, your base attack increases a little.

No. They have to do damage, but the amount of damage they do doesn't matter. If you want a shortcut to leveling Jonathan/Shanoa, get yourself an Astral Ring (spells drain life instead of MP, from Hard mode chests) and a Mastery ring, equip both, go into Hard Level 1 Survival, and mash Down+B alternating with LB to hit Gergoth with subweapons rapid fire until you die, and then do it again.

I started playing around with alucard last night after soma picked up a Yasut...What is it that determines the duration of his gaseous form? I tried using it to get the right chest on the chapter one balance scales area and everytime i did the form, i would remain stationary, but i know ive seen other people move while in the form a little bit. does this just get stronger as you earn more spells?

You can't increase the duration of the mist. If you hold down a direction while you press RB he will move very slightly in that direction. The two places I can think of where it is useful to extend your jump with mist form are: Chapter 3, jumping over large goo blocks; Chapter 6, jumping to the secret purple chest without headstomping an ally/yorick. The most common use of this ability is to avoid taking damage since you are invincible while mist.

Good to know about the blocking thing. Zaylenz and I did the whole level 1 survival levelling thing the other day. It definitely works well. It was funny watching how quickly my paper airplanes went from level 1 to 4 after a few throws.

Whoever was in charge of the scaling for those weapons though is an evil, evil person. Oh yeah it's great to get your weapon to 6 in one go, but it's going to take another hour to get them to 9. I still have to do the axes and those are just terrible to level. They're not as bad as the grenade, but they still suck.

    BigSpoiler2-1.jpg
  • ZaylenzZaylenz Registered User regular
I find if you're going to use the Survival trick to level up your subweapons, it's best overall to not take each subweapon from 1-9 at a time, but level them in stages. Basically I leveled up all of Jonathan/Shanoa subweapons/spells to level 5 first, then all to level 7, then 8 and 9. Since Jonathan and Shanoa's standard attack improves for each level you gain for subweapons, your character will be better for regular play faster.

I don't know if it's common knowledge, but I can now confirm that Alucard's Shield and Alucard's Armor drop from purple chests on Level 6 Hard.

Now I need to get his sword.

Well, got up to Dracula last night. Is there any trick to beating him? I can beat his normal form just fine, but then he turns into a demon and does that attack that curses me and I can never dodge all of those.

Also, is there some easier way to beat those giant armors right before him? Every hit I do to them does 1 damage. I've gotten decent at being able to dodge their attacks but damn do they take forever to kill that way (and they are so large I can't just bypass them)

If you are playing Jonathan, you can Sonic Strike or Roll right through them, otherwise no, you just have to hit them a bunch. Typically the faster the weapon the better.

For Dracula Phase 2: stay on/near the side walls of the room and hit him when he jumps close (to avoid the poison shower b.s.). If he does the curse thing start sliding/walking on the ground and you'll dodge them. Jumping is bad.

If you have a block button, you can block the curse attacks. If not, what walt said.

Big armor guys I don't even bother killing anymore. I just slide into them (take damage) then slide through them. There's a big meat past them and my charlotte can self heal. Probably not as viable for other characters who can't self heal until you get dracula's pattern down. If you do slide through them, you can kill them from behind but I don't see the point so meh.

Yeah I've been playing as Shanoa so I don't think I have a block (unless I'm missing something?). But the curse things don't touch the floor? Can I just crouch or does sliding get me slightly lower?

I think I'll be able to kill him with a bit more practice, it was really late so I only really did two attempts on him and called it a night. It's kind of annoying that there is only one "book thingy" (or whatever those things are that let you swap armor) in that stage though. But I'm getting better at getting to the end with less damage on me (the big pot roast in the wall at the end helps too :P).

I actually probably would have had him last night - I hit him a LOT before dying. I got sloppy and got hit by the damn poison shower though :( Shanoa's lightning works ridiculously well vs. his first form though.

Side note: For the Sunstone/Moonstone, is the cutoff point is 6:00 local? Or is it later than that? (I used to know what it was in the other games but it's been awhile). Also, do these stack if I manage to get a second one?

I can help you after I get off work.

Warlock: They do touch the floor, it's just that the best way to dodge them is to walk in one direction until he stops doing the attack. If that isn't an option, walk in one direction, slide under one in the other direction, and keep walking.

BTW, Remember in SOTN where you could use the star rod and any shield and cast a spell by pushing them both at the same time (different spell for each shield)? Has anyone checked if this worked? I havent gotten a star rod yet but saw one drop and it had me wondering.

That was the Shield Rod, which isn't in the game. There was also a sword that let you do the same thing but I don't think it's in the game either.

Shanoa probably takes the longest time to kill the Final Guards because she has no decent way past them or rapid fire attack (and even if you have twin Pneuma's, his stupid shield manages to block a lot of them).
    Spoiler:

For the second form of Dracula...
    Spoiler:

Edit: I'm pretty sure the Alucard Sword is only from Hard 4's Boss Chest. The same boss also has an awesome spear for Soma.

I thought he only had a third form in hard mode (or at least I read he has "more forms" in hard).

In any case, yeah, for those armors lightning works pretty good, but you run out of mana way before they die. I found it generally works ok to get right next to them and crouch-attack. For the most part they will only try to stab you with their sword which has a LOOOOOONG telegraph animation for it giving you plenty of time to move away. The couple times they use their shield they'll telegraph that too so it's generally not a huge problem. They just take so damn long to die :(

I haven't gotten a single 5-star drop off of Dracula (...except for food...) and I've killed him a ton. I can't even get him to drop his soul for Soma when wearing double Soul Eaters (it's the only spell in the game I don't have). Vlad definately has a grudge against me for that Shield Rod+Alucard Shield combo I pulled on him back in SotN.

I did get the Kadalbolg(sp?) for Soma though, which is a 4-star drop and fairly decent. It's only two points weaker than the Longilus spear I was using but hits much faster (though I don't think it's holy like the spear and has pretty bad range and no special so I may go back to the spear).
