    And? What does it matter?

Getting rid of alts being allowed in H/A would be the silliest thing to do ever in the history of PA Forums, and there's been some seriously silly decisions made here in the past, just because people are denying your ability to build up a dirtsheet on them.

It's not like the database is a finite resource where new threads are depleting our reserve of Threadonium to be left for future generations.

I get it. Everyone loves alts.

And I don't want to build up a dirt sheet. It just makes it a lot easier to get a handle on how to help people when you can cross reference their other threads for their other situations. Those who tend to post about their relationship problems (which 99% of alt threads are about) tend to do it A LOT.

I digress though, I give in to the greater majority and I won't argue against it anymore. Bring on the alts!

EDIT: I know. Let's bring back the WebCam page (which I used to be on, thank you very much) and we can do live H/A. "The Doctor Is In".

As much as I feel a compulsive need to thrust my musical tastes on anyone and everyone who decides to start a music thread, it can get a little frustrating when half of them never respond.

I need constant validation, and they aren't providing. Can someone force them to?

It's not that. It's the threads that start with a simple request for music, maybe some examples of what they already like. There may be one or two replies, then the OP disappears forever. Did they like the music? Did they even see it? Impossible to tell.

I have given up trying on those treads because EVERYONE just starts linking in videos. I don't mind helping someone find new music that they may like, but these seven years in Tibet spent scrolling to read all the posts just slays me.

Is there a way to break the youtube embedding? In my old music thread I went and made a giant list just so I didnt have to open it anymore, it was a pain for my browser. I there is an option to link a video without it automatically embedding I am unaware of it.

    so much this

I kind of hate the automatic embedding. I would usually rather post the URL of the video and let people click through to it.

That's good. Even with spoilers, which I'm careful to use if I post more than one video, it can be a pain to open those pages sometimes.

Ah word, that does work. Thanks for that. An option to turn it off for stuff like music threads would be nice as most people would be too lazy to do that.

I'd honestly be curious to see a poll on how many people like that feature now that its been around for a while. It stresses the shit out of my browser.

And once one or two people start spamming videos, everyone else who wants to post a recommendation thinks they'd better post videos or they'll just get ignored. Then the OP comes back, sees a bunch of videos with little to no description, and either thinks "screw this" or "I guess I'll get to these later."

to those with issues in music threads: what browser are you guys using? and have you updated Flash on your OS of choice to 10.1 with hardware acceleration?

I've had no problems using Chrome on OS X since, well, since I switched to Chrome from Firefox. But with the latest version of Flash, it's even smoother.

I would suggest that anyone who creates an alt account for asking a question in H/A then keeps using it (however infrequently) for other stuff (EG: ever posts with it at all out) gets permabanned.

What you think "makes sense" has nothing to do with reality. It just has to do with your life experience. And your life experience may only be a small smidgen of reality. Possibly even a distorted account of reality at that. So what this means is that, beginning in the 20th century as our means of decoding nature became more and more powerful, we started realizing our common sense is no longer a tool to pass judgment on whether or not a scientific theory is correct. - Neil Degrasse Tyson

That seems unnecessarily complicated, and for the majority of threads, not something that is needed.

We don't need anonymous posting to ask for a good lasagna recipe. Unless maybe you're asking for one that disguises the taste of the poison you're planning on feeding to your family.

There are very few reasons for which someone will be automatically permanently banned. Almost any case of anyone being told to leave permanently is the result of serious deliberation, or a pattern of behaviour that makes it obvious that there's no intent to act otherwise. It's not done frequently to anything but spammer accounts.

The conditions you described are not likely going to ever be sufficient in and of themselves to warrant that kind of action.

That said we don't put up with bullshit and the ability to use alts to post in H/A is a special privilege. People who abuse it will find many of the privileges extended to them (including the privilege to be a member of the forums at all) rapidly limited. It's a serious thing but almost nothing is black and white here.

If there's someone abusing it, or you suspect someone is, we need to understand what you think is happening and why. If for no other reason than that we can investigate IP addresses and registration details and if you're wrong, we can at least give you one less thing to stress about.

"Hey i know you wanted some help finding shorts, but have you ever thought about getting a parka instead?"

I don't think that's a good idea. There have been plenty of times when people have suggested things that the OP had no idea about and benefited from. Now, if something is completely off base, then maybe, but it seems like something that could get abused pretty easily....

It's one thing to suggest something the OP may not have known about, but it seems there's at least one poster who is dead set on suggesting or recomending something the OP specificaly asked to exclude.

Report it, but is it that big a deal? Can you not just ignore the advice, or say "This isn't what I was looking for, thanks anyway"?

There are a few things I've been sad to see slide (and I never venture into a music thread anymore), but this is a small thing to make a rule about.

I think we should have more leeway with cracking jokes. Like, not about "Shit guys my mom died, wtf do I do" "lawl put your dick in her butt."

But, like, "Shit guys I got pulled over going 90 in a 35, should I pay the ticket?" or "I ran a red light, why do they even have those?"

    Alas.... I Am too late....but....

I see potential danger of Mods Getting into discussions in H/A and taking sides in difference of opinion. One day some Crazy Mods will just mass ban people for having a different opinion then other posters... Carnage and Hilarity will follow. Moderators should be unbias and not be in a position to abuse their moderator powers.l Therefore I high discourage Mods to participate in any H&A post unless an infacture has occure or an explaination/warning regarding the general rules of H&A thereof.

Also... can this forum change into the Whinning forum? I miss the Whinning forum very much

I know it's just a pipe dream, but I'd love a rule where relationship threads that have reached 50 replies have have to be immediately re-evaluated as to whether or not they should be locked. Most of them honestly get answered within the first three replies, whereas a percentage of them take a sharp left turn into some dark and dreary place unnamed on any map after two or three pages.

Also a sticky thread called "should I go to the ER?" which lists all the reasons why it's imperative that someone should visit an emergency room, as well as those symptoms that should only require a visit to an urgent care center, a schedule appointment with a general practitioner, or ten minutes with a gym teacher who will scream at you to "rub a little dirt on it and walk it off, you whiny little girl." Or maybe not that last bit.

Or maybe not that last bit.

How likely do you think it is that you're going to find a mod who's going to reliably catch every relationship thread as it hits 50 pages to do that without also ending up with a completely sterile, overly regulated environment? I get what you're saying, but H/A is pretty clean.

And no. We're not giving out official forum medical advice. Medical threads are some of the least common anyhow, you get a lot more in here about girls, cars, legal trouble (half of it relating to cars), travel and jobs/careers.

I apologize to anyone who feels that a specific brand of thread is overplayed, but I'm not going to be instituting or enforcing any kind of means to limit or prevent any specific genre of thread from happening. I feel that it would do irreversible damage to the character of this forum and that it would result in overall fewer people coming in, providing diverse viewpoints and making suggestions. It'd do far more damage than good, and no one's read more threads about relationships than I have so don't suggest that I don't get what you're saying.

I am happy about the youtube rules and it may inspire me to get another music thread to help me get some musics. I hope the new rules will be enforced with an iron fist. I realize its not a thing that you'd do, but I'd recommend it for D&D music threads too. Though I haven't seen one in a bit.

The reasoning I have behind the new rules is that this is a pretty swank place and we all agree on that, so let's boost the quality standards just a touch and see if we can maintain that.
