Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
I used to bring my lunch all the time but I got tired of eating leftovers from the night before so I basically make a quick drive down the street where there's a cluster of restaurants and hit at least one every day.
Monday is usually Subway day. Usually a 6-inch Chicken Breast or 6-inch Turkey on Wheat.
Tuesday is Smoothie King day. Medium smoothie, usually at random, keeping towards the leaner stuff but with the turbinado (sugar) not included. Also a random powerbar/clif bar equivalent.
Wednesday is typically Grocery Day. I'll hit the local grocery store and pick up a pre-made sammich or a frozen healthy choice dinner, a vitamin water, and some fruit.
Thursday is McDonalds day. The only thing I eat at McDonald's is the southwest salad, so it's that, water, and a parfait (usually)
Friday is Random day. Sometimes I use it as my slummin' it day and get fast food, sometimes I'll stop at a new place (Kid Creole for a Shrimp Po-Boy), or sometimes I'll repeat one of the above four.
I usually mix the day of the week up, but I hit at least those top four each week.
So for you working folks, how do you handle lunch?
Just got finished stuffing my face with a ham baguette, usually that and a half liter of water every weekday. I've tried to get into making my lunches before work or the night before, but...meh. Bad personal habits are tough to break.
Leftovers/stuff I make at home, usually. Last week it was either baked ziti or hummus/lavosh chips/carrots. Tonight I'm making up a batch of spaghetti and meatballs to portion out for lunches.
Sandwich (ham/turkey/colby jack), Lays Stack chips (Cheddar) and a canned minute maid lemonade and a handful of whoppers.
I find my checking account greatly appreciates me brown-bagging it to work, and I use less gas in my car and have a little more free time on my lunch break. Rarely I'll grab fast food (usually Chick-Fil-A).
I'll change up the sandwich meat, chips (used to do Pringles but they just had another stealth price increase, bastards). Usually have MM light lemonade (or is it limeade?) but Wally world didn't have any.
I haven't done the math, but I probably save $15-20 a week versus getting fast food.
My low point came while I was crushing man's skull like sparrow's egg between my thighs. But then I thought to myself, "who else would crush man's skull like sparrow's egg between his thighs?"
I work in the south end of Boston, which means I have a ludicrously awesome selection of lunchtime foods. Today was a fusion wrap from a small family owned cafe called Siraj (indian and greek). It was spicy and delicious.
We also have Thai, burritos, other great sandwich shops, awesome thin crust pizza, and even a really tasty Venezuelan place.
I had a bagel with cream cheese, chorizo and rocket along with a flat white coffee. It was ok I guess.
I work in a city of about 400k, on the outskirts of London. It is big, but it kind of lacks for good, lunch time cafe freshly prepared food. So I tend to eat rather poorly compared to how I did in NZ, where that kind of thing is a little easier to get.
For some reason I really hate the idea of bringing my lunch to work, even though I'm sure I could save a bit of cash. No matte where I've worked, I've always really needed to get out of the office and walk for a few minutes, then buy some food.

That's the other thing, too, actually. I use lunchtime as my excuse to escape this madhouse for at least a half-hour.
I ran into my boss as I was walking to a fast food place for lunch so he told me to come with him to The Burger Stand and bought my lunch.
The Burger Stand makes really good burgers, I normally eat there about once a week or so. But I'm currently poor and was going to get something cheaper.
Bologna (German) sandwich, with swiss cheese on wheat bread. A V8 to drink and an apple.
I'm very boring when it comes to making lunch for myself.
There's plenty of places to eat around the area where I work (basically Downtown), but the good places cost $$. They're worth it though, if only for a once a week trip.
I will say, having access to a fridge and/or microwave at your office/school opens up a lot more doors when deciding what you can bring for lunch.
This is true. If only I made better use of my "work kitchen".
Today it was a drive home for Mac n Cheese. Usually it's going out with people from work. Lots of different places. I really want to bring lunch more often, but it becomes difficult as I am a terrible morning person. Especially since bringing lunch 4 times a week would save me almost $150 - $200 a month.
My brother's business does things pretty well. They have a full kitchen, pots and pans, full cutlery and dishes.
When I was working for him, every friday he would either buy everyone lunch (order pizza or something) or they would have a couple of people cook a huge feast.
It was a really effective way to make everyone feel a bit happier about themselves and their work situation and to help his employees save a fuckload of money.
Some version of salad with a caffeinated beverage (iced tea or coke zero). Chickpeas with lemon juice, olive oil, parsley, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper is good, and you can eat it room temp or cold. Pasta salad, tabbouleh, quinoa or bulghur wheat with dried fruit and curry vinaigrette--all of those would keep from arriving at work til lunchtime if you had them in the fridge overnight at home. Orzo, pesto, and peas with grape tomatoes.
Today: Seminar Pizza. Free pizza and a lecture. One of the few ways Graduate school is the same as undergrad.
Usually: Soup + crackers.
Is dinner time now though. As soon as I get out of the lab I've got left over grilled chicken w/ peppers and rice that I made this weekend waiting for me. Mmmmm.
Used to eat a bunch of fast food, but I've been making sandwiches for the past few weeks. Unfortunately, I've only had PB&J for the past few days, and that gets old quickly. Need to pick up some lunchmeats tomorrow so I can start adding variation again. That's what keeps me from having McDoubles everyday, variety.
I had two tacos, some rice and baked beans, and a coke. It was delicious. When I get the taco salad from the place I went to I usually regret it like, an hour later, but this time I had no issues! Hooray! And it was cheap cuz it was Two-fer Tuesday!
I've been trying to hard boil a mess of eggs at the beginning of the week so that I have something to grab before I leave. If I also grab some bread from home, snag some mustard and mayo from the condiments at work, I can make my own egg salad sandwich right there. Alternatively, if I'm hungry before lunch, one of the eggs makes a quick snack with the other egg still being enough for a sandwich.
I've packed my lunch every workday for the past 6 and a half years.
This is because I work the graveyard shift, and there isn't shit open at 3am in the morning here.
On the other hand, I make a pretty tasty turkey sandwich.

Normally I'll make a sammich of some sort and have some hummus with whatever I have around.
If faith is just a silent tribute, mine is just a desperate act.

Five hours later, when I went no. 2, I regretted my decision.
Though maybe some day this week I'll grab somethin good.
Very nommy.

Seemed appropriate.
I brown bag it four times a week to save money, and eat out on Wednesday or Friday to keep myself from going into a tuna-induced psychotic episode.

Hurrah for free lunch!
I usually bring my own lunch. What there is in terms of takeaway food near my office is either boring or horribly expensive.
I didn't brown-bag it nearly as often when I was over there...
*avatar zombie high five*

I had a Red Robin Burnin' Love Burger.

Usually I just have leftovers, or teriyaki every now and then.
this was my actual breakfast
My breakfast consists of a which chocolate mohca and a cig on the way to work.
Lunch is a few cigs in my car while listening to tunes.
And then dinner is usually something grilled or like pasta and shrimp or something.
I really like eggs.
Found a sketch of you, Cauld:
Well, I'm not sure if that's accurate. I can't tell if he's really enjoying his Pizza Rolls as much as he should. They're so delicious.
