I'll say "Girl in red coat", even though movie is in black and white.

After you see the movie, that phrase will make you cry.

I sometimes disappoint my parents by not being responsible enough about some things, but generally speaking we are on good terms. I love my parents and they love me, especially since I am by far the easiest child, and they're quite proud of me for my art school stuff and intelligence and general creativity.

I feel like I could stand to do more stuff with them, though. We're gonna go see an exhibition of Munch art next week, though, so that's definitely something.

    Nope!

    His name is Simon.

Basically when my grandmother was 16 she met this black guy.

    And got pregnant.

Her parents sent her away to be a nun! Something they would later regret, but the time period meant this was what they had to do.

    But she escaped.

Her parents decided to simply adopt the baby and raise him as her brother.

He didn't know until he grew up that his sister was his mother.

Anyway, since then, I've heard lots of enlightening things that I had no idea about. For example!

    1) People cannot be monogamous as a whole. They are few and far between if it is possible.

    2) All people are sexually deviant.

    3) All people are healthier when people care about their health more (so that's kind of cool I guess!!!)

    see?

take out the word "gay" in each of them and they're still exactly as accurate!

My parents are serious-Catholic, my Dad more than my mom. I had a hard time fighting with them over not getting confirmed, turning atheist, and moving in with my now-fiance, but I had it easy compared to my younger sister.

In her senior year of high school, she was pretty much the only smart kid in her class (tiny school - graduating class of around 60) and about a year and a half away from discovering she's gay. All she knew at the time was that she was conflicted about something and didn't know how to deal. Eventually she gets up the nerve to ask my parents if she can see a therapist.

(I don't know about you, but if I had a kid and they reached the conclusion that they needed a therapist, I'd get them a goddamn therapist).

Instead, my parents tell her she can talk to the priest if she needs someone to talk to. Yeah, I'm sure that would have helped a lot. Then my mom suggests my sister only wanted to talk to a therapist so she could get drugs. Real nice. Predictably, my sister went into a bit of a self-destructive spiral - drinking a lot, drugs, sleeping with guys for no reason.

Luckily, once she got to college she found a better environment, and got involved long-term with a really awesome girl. My parents still talk to her, but don't acknowledge her sexuality at all or set foot in her apartment - same with me and my apartment.

You know that part where his dad is in the infirmary, and they are all being moved to a different camp, and he runs in there and convinces his dad to get out of bed thinking that the nazis will kill the sick as they leave, and they run for miles in the snow as they get herded to another camp, and his dad dies from this, and the chapter ends with him talking about how he found out several years later what happened to the sick jews who got left behind, and it closes with "they were quite simply liberated by the Russians."

    Yeah.
