I am fully expecting Thor to crush Green Lantern like a tiny bug, even though it's coming out fully a month beforehand.

There is literally no chance of that happening. They will both do bucko bucks, but GL is probably going to make a little more.

Hmm, finding the Minisodes there, but not the full ep, or am I screwed by being in Canada ?

Go to http://disney.go.com/disneyxd/#/disneyxd/video/ and click the avengers tab at the bottom.

Anywho, first episode was alright, but god damn was it enjoyable watching Graviton get the pissed knocked out of him. Especially when the hulk showed up.

    Literally no chance? Bullshit.

If Green Lantern sucks, and Thor is awesome, it sure as hell will crush it. Vice versa as well.

I would say Green Lantern is a slightly more popular character then Thor, BUT, Thor has much more respected actors (Hopkins and Portman) and is linked to the ever beloved Iron-Man movies giving it a nice boost.

The two are on even ground if you ask me. If one sucks, the other will kick its ass.

People went to Transformers 2 because they wanted to see giant robots blow shit up, which the movie had plenty of.

Not everyone wants plots as deep as Inception all the time.

The Last Airbender, a movie which appealed to no one, made over 300 million dollars total and I think was the 10nth best box office of the year so far.

Of course this is all precipitated on Green Lantern being terrible, and I don't think the guy who made the Mask of Zorro and Casino Royale is going to make a terrible GL movie.

Transformers 2... what a terrible example.

You can't just say "oh this movie sucked and lots of people saw it!" as some random example...

When was the last time you saw a movie with giant robots blowing shit up and turning into cars and tanks? Unlike Thor and Green Lantern which are one of many superhero movies, Transformers really kind of corners the market on giant mech fighting action in movie theaters. Plus it was going off the success of the first movie which was a big success all around...

All for various and different reasons.

I don't see people going to see Thor or Green Lantern in droves even if they suck. Their both popular superheroes, but not nearly on Spider-man, batman, superman, wolverine levels. And since their superhero movies, they gotta be good to actually get noticed amongst the sea of other superhero flicks.

On the other hand, as far as superhero movies go, they are fairly diffrent in terms of settings. I mean Thor is half fantasy/sci-fi and Green Lantern is very sci-fi... so their not just another pair of dudes in tights with powers running around the street. SO that may help them out.

My prediction is that Thor and GL will both do pretty well.

Honestly I am more worried about Thor; anecdotal experiences suggest more non-comic people know about Green Lantern than Thor, and more of my trade or casual reader friends have taken some pretty serious convincing on Thor.

I'm more curious about how Cap will do, though.

Ya, I feel the same way. GL and Thor are not household names like Batman or Spider-man... so I'm intrested to see how sales responds.

GL is the more popular of the two I would say, BUT Thor has Anthony Hopkins, Portman, a director who won an academy award for best movie, and a link to the very successful Iron-Man franchise... all of which I'm hoping they play up in the trailer (namely the whole Stark/Destroyer scene in the leak). So, I think they'll be on even grounds.

I'm the only dork in my group of friends. All of which have no idea who Thor or Green Lantern is. Thanks to the cameo of the hammer at the end of Iron-Man 2, they are hyped for Thor and still have no idea who Green lantern is. Now, I'm guessing their not the only ones influenced by such.

It's kinda funny. I'm MUCH less interested in Green Latern and X-men than I am Thor/Captain America: and it all has to do with the fact that they're contributing to a greater story that'll culimate in the Avengers flick. I mean, previously, I wouldn't have cared much about Thor and I barely even knew anything about Captain America, let alone was interested in watching him. Now I'm eagerly anticipating both movies. I love that we're getting them only a few months apart too.

I don't care about the Avengers-element, especially after it hobbled Iron Man II. I know many people disagree, but I thought that Widow's inclusion in the film slowed it down considerably.

But I do prefer Thor and Captain America simply because, as was stated before, they're offering different takes on the traditional formula in regards to setting. Green Lantern does this as well, I suppose, but my ambivalence toward Hal Jordan diminishes my enthusiasm. Reynolds probably has it in him to make the character interesting, though.

EDIT: On second thought, I really like this thread and I'm guessing the quality of Ironman 2 is one of those conversations that could crap it up, so I'll refrain from commenting. I will say I'm not sure if Captain America is that different of a take on teh formula? (Though I suppose WW2 shakes things up a bit.)

    I finally saw Apocalypse.

It was ok, and the storytelling was better than I thought it would be based on what was said here. I didn't recognize the name of the writer; it turns out he's not one of the DC Animated regular writers, but he wrote a number of major films for Disney in the 90s like Hunchback of Notre Dame and the Tarzan animated film, which makes sense because this one felt more like a movie in structure than the others have. Although it was not at all above average.

I was really bothered by 3 things, though:
-That montage of Supergirl at the mall was just awful, and then when she broke a nail near the end of the film. That is just lame and sexist.
-The whole Doomsday Clone army thing that a lot of you pointed out was just as stupid as you all made it sound. It made absolutely zero sense.
-I was really happy that the darkseid plot had apparently ended with a wager from Batman. Darkseid stories are best when there is little fighting involved and it is based more on manipulation. So, I was really happy...

And then 5 minutes later, Superman and Supergirl get into a fight that's over 10 minutes long with Darkseid. That was fucking silly. At first I was only minorly bothered, because the context was so ridiculous I figured it'd be a dream sequence. Then it just got more and more ridiculous, and after a couple minutes I was just furious and the movie had fallen out of my favor. When you drag a fight scene out that long, it makes the villain look extremely ineffectual, and this was particularly true of Darkseid, who is supposed to be one of the most powerful, most cunning villains in the DCU.

So, yeah, it kind of sucked.

I never really get complaints about this movie. The story`s been in print for like, four years. People had well enough advance warning to know if it sucks and to stay away from an adaptation if they don`t like it.
