Personally I'd send an anonymous email to the tutor saying that you suspect his assignment is plagiarised

if the tutor does anything you can plead ignorance and hopefully he will learn a lesson about stealing

and if the tutor doesn't do anything, leave it be

then if the friend steals work again, send another email

and if the tutor ignores it again, bring up the tutor's reluctance to punish theft/plagiarism with the HOD or something

this all assumes that you are not GOOD friends with this dude, by the way.

if you are good friends, just tell him that you know he copied it, and that if he keeps it up you'll have to bring it up with the tutor

friendship is all well and good, but he is doing a dickish thing and should be called out on it

That's why I left the fine arts department so I could focus on doing my own studies. Everyone had just completely disappeared up their own asses and come out the other side with skull-gloves and fake bed-head.

You should have just called him out on it and then publicly de-friended him on Facebook, but I honestly don't know what I would have done in that situation. If they aren't serious about art it probably isn't going to matter in the long run whether or not you break them down in public, but then again if you don't it's gonna eat at you, and they likely really deserve to be knocked down a peg.

It's pretty disgusting, and would certainly be grounds for some kind of official action by the department/university if it was brought to their attention. But if you really don't want to take action or call him out on it, I wouldn't let it eat you up - plagiarism in art courses is just completely counterproductive. He won't learn anything or get anything out of the course, and if he keeps it up it won't take long before someone with more power/guts actually notices.

I guess an anonymous email would be the best option I have, although to be honest I don't even know if this is worth creating a fake email address for. I don't think any force in the universe has the power to stop the majority university students being lazy fucktards, and I've long since resigned to the fact that the most valuable thing I'm going to get out of this course is contacts, not learning, so I'm wary of rocking the boat unnecessarily.

I agree with what Fletcher said.

That also reminds me about how one student in a class I was taking went up for critique on his character design...and the Game Design major next to me immediately recognized what the student had based 99% of his character off of (he changed, literally, almost nothing, not even the colors)...showed me a picture he found in 5 seconds on the internet, proceeded to print it out, then offer his "critique" - which was essentially blasting the kid for plagiarism, and handing the professor the print-out.

I'm pretty sure everybody felt the tension and awkwardness in that room because it was effing crazy. The same two students did the same thing a few weeks later, too, over another assignment (I think the first kid just didn't really understand what a "reference" was, and how to be "inspired" by something without copying it almost to a T).

Definitely better to go with the less dramatic option of email!

So who can give me the basic rundown of an art university degree experience?

I'm thinking of attending Seneca. I hear it has a pretty good animation degree, but if it's more of a traditional college experience i'd like to know what i'm in for. Do the teachers actually help you out, or do you have to figure out most things by yourself? I know I have a lot of issues with my school, but the teachers do make it a habit of helping students out, and in most of my classes you can't move on unless you understand certain art processes effectively (for better or worse).

Is it worth my time and effort? I would like to make a comparison!

It really depends on the school/teachers.

Ringling had great teachers for the most part and a large portion of the students really cared about getting better/improving. The most 'bullshit' was definitely in the first year in Foundation. There were some great teachers, but there were of course teachers that had very much gone down a fine arts rabbit hole and didn't appreciate the illustration/computer animation kids.

I've taken a few university art classes prior to attending my current school, and they all were a bit underwhelming.

The teacher would just set up a still life or a model, and tell us to draw with no real direction. This didn't really help me out at the time, and felt like kind of a waste of money. Art schools in Texas really are a bit of a sham if you ask me.

Hah - fucking weird. I click on an image on ffffound, and in the 10 "other images you may like", there's wakkawa, and my friend Tran from school.

I'm used to seeing wakkawa's work on there, but I haven't seen Tran's there before....and it's really funny that they just end up on the same page. :P

I agree with Fletch, but if it was someone I was good friends with I'd call him out on it personally.

One of those take aside things, mainly because the dudes just wasting time and money if he's going to cheat through class. And you can't cheat through a real job like that. Personally I'd want my buds to learn and take from class as much as possible feel there getting what they pay for. If he's just going to pass stuff off like this with no real work into it, what's the point of going to class? What's the point paying for all this?

So if you do talk to him, just make it sound like he's cheating himself by taking the easy route if he does agree that he may of took influence or plagiarized it. If not maybe he'll just be more conscious about doing the stuff in the future because someone is noticing. And guilt will gnaw at him.

    Bus Simulator 2010

I'm guessing it would be around 5 minutes into this game before the average person would ride up on the curb and start trying to run pedestrians down. And a further 5 minutes before they realise they've been had and uninstall it.

EDIT: Then again if you buy a game titled Bus Simulator 2010 you really do deserve everything that's coming to you.

Apparently there is a market for them...I don't know who these people are, but I'm guessing they have names like Charlton and Ernest.

Also Napp that video had me falling out of my chair laughing, clipping and physics problems have all new meanings.

I am so stoked for the new Tron film.

Also, having your wisdom teeth removed is no fun at all. It's what I did today. Today, my dentist used a set of pliers to break a tooth out of my jaw. It was pretty gross.

It went much better for me than most people I've heard about, though, so at least there's that. It was more annoying and inconvenient rather than pure agony.
