Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
The topic is pretty self explanatory of what I am trying to do. After a few years of use, the in sink disposal occasional has a bit of a food-ish scent and I am simply looking for a way to clean that out.
Thanks!

You could also just throw some citrus rind in there -- orange, lemon, lime, whatever. Should help freshen it up, but depending on how bad it is it may not be enough. Googling also results in people suggesting putting some baking soda (like 1/2 cup) followed by vinegar (1 cup) in the disposal, letting it foam for a few minutes then flushing with boiling water (essentially the same thing that's useful on clogged drains, but the vinegar should help clean the disposal pretty well).
My dad told me about a prevention method that works pretty well - run ice cubes through the disposal, kinda slowly. Like turn on the water and the disposal and just kinda chuck in ice cubes in 2s and 3s. The ice chips help knock food off of the disposal's blades so it doesn't get smelly.

White vinegar is also good for getting random smells out of your disposal.
You can also cut a lemon into wedges and send them down the disposal and let it go to town.
My folks have used the lemons for theirs and I haven't noticed any issues when I visit nor heard them complain.
