I

don't quite know what to say about it

I mean we knew about the secret agent thing and it's got Michael Caine as a badass spy car, but...

I will watch this trailer in a moment.

But I do find it astounding that the worst movie Pixar has made turned out merely okay.

EDIT: Okay... That trailer was something.

I never saw the first Cars movie.

I'm not sure what to think of this one, but at least it looks like it won't be as soul-crushing as the last 3 Pixar movies turned out to be.

the first one wasn't all that bad

just... not really up to pixar's usual quality

entertaining, but not much actual substance

this one will probably about the same, and I'll probably still see it at least once

i guess this expands on the stuff where Lightning goes to Japan and drift races or something?

the Mater's Tall Tales shorts are pretty great though

I heard it's an especially great film for people that are into cars, which would not be me

Also I just really cannot stand the character design

    It just seems really lazy

you mean like you need to be a motorhead or something to enjoy it?

nope. i mean the man character is a NASCAR car and there are some references to F1 racing

and the character design (big eyes on windshields, mouths for grilles) is the way it is because John Lasseter wanted to due a tribute to a couple of old disnet short toons that had the same character design

its more of a nostalgia movie than just a car movie

I'm not sure if bsjezz is being serious

If so, I believe that makes him one of only two people I've seen on the boards that doesn't like Pixar

Which is kinda crazy, to have that kind of universal approval around here

i don't. it's not that i think they make horrible films, but i would not go out of my way to watch one. i think they are generally great kids' movies that have somehow become accepted as adult viewing, and in terms of adult film they are easy to criticise. the storylines are naff rather than classic, the themes are unchallenging and the humour is bad.

i particularly disliked wall-e. i liked toy story though

    Hi5

The rest, in order, because that's what this will become

    1) Ratatouille
    2) The Incredibles
    3) Toy Story
    4) A Bug's Life
    5) Monsters, Inc.
    6) Finding Nemo
    7) Up
    8) Toy Story 2

Oh wait I just remembered I have also not seen Toy Story 3 either, although I want to. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I watched the first cars on an airplane, and at the time it made me think that pixar movies have become slightly formulaic. But it was fun enough, and I wouldn't have complained to anyone if they had taken me to see it.

don't get me wrong, i would be happy for my kids to watch them

    would i pay attention? no

not like i would to the fantastic mr. fox

this is the problem. kids miss the subtleties anyway, so why not make the subtleties really fucking deft, rather than just sort of half-hearted nods to adult sensibilities? the fantastic mr. fox was genuinely interesting and challenging, much more so than anything i've seen from pixar, and the kids still love it.

    Hate Wall-E so much

It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever

I walked out of the theater so pissed and disappointed, and that's probably why I didn't bother seeing Up or Toy Story 3 in theaters and they just became a "when I get around to it" kind of deal

I'm allowed to hate one Pixar movie!
