I know we have a few poker players here, so post your poker stories! Whether it is Bad Beat stories, monster hand stories or just plain funny stories, post em here!

My worst, well it isin't a bad beat story, but it is painful. I was playing in a $5 tournament, and we just hit the cash. I got deal pocket aces (we were playing No Limit Hold'em) and I make a raise. One guy calls and the flop is 3-Q-3. I bet the pot, guy goes all in and I call. He proceeds to show me quad threes, and needless to say, I am out of the tournament.

Moral of the story: Pocket Aces aren't invincible.

I'm fine with losing, but it never fails to make me seethe when a person wins and they don't even know it

Like I'll throw down a K high straight and they show their hand with an "oops you got me!" look on their face, and all I can do is look at the flush they unknowingly drew and spit in the face of their ignorance.

I've never really played Poker, played a lot of card games, but never really sat down and played Poker.

With that said I hate constantly seeing poker championships on TV. It's not that fun to watch.

Our monthly friendly poker game at my buddy Gary's place. Word had gotten around that we hosted a decent game, and had 18 players sitting across 2 tables including myself and my girlfriend who, up until that point, had only played a couple hands in passing in Vegas like, once. She understood the game very well, and has a scary knack for reading people, so we both figured what the hell - it'll be fun for her to come meet and hang out with my buddies and we get to play cards together.

$20 in, re-buys cut off at 2 hours in. I wasn't getting cards all night and was tapped just before the last round and final table. Amy was still in, but was down to her last $200 in chips and some friend of a friend (can't think of his name) had a monster stack.

Took a break, and we went out and smoked. I told her to watch his left leg - he bounced like a nervous twitch whenever he had a big hand.

Long story short, she came back from next to nothing at the final table and won the whole goddamn thing. With multiple re-buys from other players, her first-place win got almost $300 for the night

It's worse when some one calls 3 rounds of betting and is behind the entire time. Then they win on the river and say "I didn't believe you had anything."

I played my first games of Texas at my friend's place last week. We had four of us. I ended up winning the first tournament and coming in second in the other round. My friends were really pissed off that I was winning and yet didn't seem to them to know how to play. Gee, sorry for beating you guys. Just cause I hadn't played before I knew the gist of the game from movies and tv, and it's all about betting and reading people than your cards anyway.

Often times I wouldn't fold when they said I should have, but the idiots didn't realize that the bets were so small on those hands that it didn't hurt to stay in. And then I'd get "lucky" and they'd complain.

At any rate, beating their asses was fun and I want to play more. I hardly think I'm great, but I love learning through mistakes.

Update: I made it into the round of 8 and the money.

Hand of the match: I get A-Q, guy raises to 180 {I had 4000, he had 2000). I reraise to 500. He calls. Flop COMPLETLEY misses me, my turn to act, I bet 500, guy folds. I end up busting him with 10-J when he went all in on an open ended straight draw that misses.

I was playing in my dorm with about 6 people, and I wasn't quite the big stack, but I had a good amount. Everyone is raising the shit out of things preflop, and I have pocket kings, and I decide (what the hell) to go all in.

The only person who called me was the big stack. He called me with a king of spades, and a two of diamonds. His king is drawing dead.

On the flop, gets three diamonds. Next card. Another diamond. Last card? Doesn't matter. It wasn't a diamond.

I was so pissed.

I was playing Poker on Puzzle Pirates ( I know, I know, silly), and in the space of 4 hands, we had 3 straight flushes, 2 of them were mine, both of those in hearts. One of them was just one short of being royal. Hurray for "random" number generators!!

This was an 8 player game, so each hand, at least a few people had either the straight or the flush, and after the first two SFs, nobody believed my huge bet on the River was legit. Needless to say, I walked out of that table well ahead of when I joined.

So I was playing that cheap XBL Hold 'Em game, just having a good time with beer. I got dealt 10 and Q spades. Knowing that I'd been on a winning streak and was feeling pretty drunk, I went ahead and folded. Flop - J and A spades, and 6 hearts. I'm sweating. Turn - 7 diamonds, starting to feel a little better. River? Well there came the K spades. I fucking folded a Royal Flush. I turned off the 360 and cried a little.

And a few weeks ago I entered my first real tournament. 35 players, $100 buy in. I made it to 5th place and walked away with $150. Not a bad night.

The most fun I had playing poker, was no limit hold em, $5 buy in between a handful of friends. I didn’t have the money, so my friend fronted me the $5, and I ended up winning. Got to pay back my friend the $5, the kid who’s house we were at for all the alcohol he bought, and had enough left over for a pack of cigarettes.

I hate people who consider themselves professionals at poker and think they should never be beat by someone who doesn't play all the time (Phil Helemuth). Half the game is LUCK of cards. Half of any game that requires luck isn't a sport or activity you can be a professional at. It's just called you play a lot and congrats on knowing the odds of winning. Anyone can look that up in a book.

I believe everyone maxes out at good poker players. You can be shitty and play it wrong, but I believe poker playing skill reaches an easily reached plateau by anyone who plays a couple times a month and doesn't do dumb shit-- the rest of the game is dumb odds and the cards you get. It's barely less card dependent than euchre in the long run.

Also I don't understand why you guys are folding on pairs and high same-suit. :P

No you see, it's LUCK in the cards you get, it's pure skill in how you play them. You can have rags, but if you can play them well enough, you can beat full houses, ect.

I play a lot of poker. In fact, for the first several months I lived in Seattle, I supported myself by playing (both online, in casinos, and a couple house games). Chicago is my best game, but I enjoy tons of variations, including the old chestnuts of 5-Card Draw and Texas Hold 'Em. In terms of great moments, I am always proudest of my good folds, rather than my good hands.

Oh, and I once lost $600 in one day, playing Omaha, and--including that day--a little more than $1200 over a four-day period.

I have a question for those of you who think poker is a lot of luck.

Why do you see the same people making final tables and winning tournaments? If it was 50% luck, you wouldn't see the same people in final tables year after year.

The mechanics of the game are completely lost on me. I can barely play Euchre.
