Its the offseason, everyone! Not as interminable as the NFL's offseason, but still kind of slow and boring because of the way arbitration and free agency work.

MLB Trade Rumors has the latest information on what's going on this offseason. You can also check Pro Hardball talk but I kind of don't like that place for its snarkiness (sort of like its football counterpart).

These are the individual awards we've seen thus far:

AL Gold Glovers
C Joe Mauer
1B Mark Teixeira
2B Robinson Cano
SS Derek Jeter
3B Evan Longoria
OF Ichiro Suzuki
OF Franklin Guttierez
OF Carl Crawford
P Mark Buehrle

NL Gold Glovers
C Yadier Molina
1B Albert Pujols
2B Brandon Phillips
SS Troy Tulowitzki
3B Scott Rolen
OF Carlos Gonzalez
OF Michael Bourn
OF Shane Victorino
P Bronson Arroyo

AL Rookie of the Year
Neftali Feliz

NL Rookie of the Year
Buster Posey

NL Cy Young
Roy Halladay

AL Cy Young
Felix Hernandez

NL Manager of the Year
Bud Black

AL Manager of the Year
Ron Gardenhire

NL MVP
Joey Votto

AL MVP
Josh Hamilton

So the AL gold glove for pitching was basically decided on opening day.

They might as well just given it to him right then and there.

Yeah, Posey won but I still think Heyward was at least as deserving.

Turns out the Pittsburgh voter guy voted Posey first, but put Neil Walker and Jose Tabata 2nd and 3rd respectively in order for them to at least be in there somewhere. That of course means he left off Heyward and anybody else entirely, and a ton of people are bitching at him for it.

Your Skip Bayless moment of the day:
Sigh Young: David Price deserved Cy b/c of IMPACT ON TEAM. Lifted Rays past Yanks, RSox to div title! Beat CC twice late. Big game ace.
Felix had great stats but 13 wins – couldn’t lift stuggling team. Steve Carlton won 27 for ’72 Phils who nearly lost 100. Ace intangibles!
I believe Yankees need Jeter at least as much as he needs them. Need his mystique, leadership, clutch gene. Still has 3 good to great years.

I disagree. Our offense may actually get better, even without Crawford.

This is predicated on Pena getting lost, Jaso/Jennings getting inked in as 1/2 alternating and maybe, hopefully, BJ Upton getting traded.

If you take B.J. Upton and Pena out of our lineup and replace them with .230 hitters who don't strike out then the pressure comes off of Longo who will get better as a result

Then the problem comes down to cleanup, and I think they'll try to get a bargain basement deal on a power righty to alternate with Brignac.

I would not roll my eyes at Jaso, Jennings, Longo, Brignac, Zobrist as a 1-5. They are all fast and they all can hit the baseball.

Also, burn Shoppac at the stake.

In summary, Pena/Upton/Bartlett were hurting us way more than Crawford was helping us. (Thought Bartlett had his moments).

Although I have to admit our fate lies in the Blue Jays not completely raping us oh god. They worry me.

The Red Sox have acquired Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres for a package of minor leaguers with one "Major League ready" player.

The official deal has not been announced, but there are reports that the package is Casey Kelly (Boston's best pitching prospect), Anthony Rizzo 1B, Jose Iglesias SS, and Ryan Kalish OF. Only Kelly has been confirmed to be part of the package.

Also, Mo signed a 2 year/$30 million dollar deal, and Jeter is nearing a deal with the Yankees that will be 3 years/$51 million with a 4th year option at $10 million.

The Yankees have also shown interest in Carl Crawford, but the Daily News is reporting that's just to stick it to the Sox who offered Mo a 3 year deal.

Casey Kelly is the "major league ready" player. With Buccholz finally performing well last year, they felt that they didn't need Kelly.

Gonzales was pretty much their best hitter though.. considering they pretty much dominated the division all year (including the Giants) and barely missed the playoffs by 1 game it's a little strange they would start dismantling the team (er, "rebuilding").

    Also consider this:

Pat Burell signed a 1 year deal with the Giants for $1 Mil. He hit .252 with 20 HR and 64 RBI last season. He's 34 yrs old.

Derek Jeter is likely to get $17M per year for 3 years, he hit .270 with 10 HR and 67 RBIs last year.. He will be 37 in June... lol

I know and in a weird way he's probably worth it, I mean if you're the Yankees with bottomless pit of money anyway... I just thought that was funny.. Here's a 34 yr old basically considering retiring and they throw him a 1yr bone to stick around and play cards in the clubhouse with Aubrey Huff basically...

If the Padres can't unload Gonzalez before the season they might accidentally compete again next season. This will force them to either pay him another season or sell him at the deadline making it blatantly obvious that they want to go the route of the Pirates and make bank from the Yankees revenue sharing.

    yeah i saw that

he's dominant against leftys so i'm not against signing him but only if it's for no more than a year and/or not much money. otherwise i'd rather they just sign a left handed specialist for less

They wanted more pitching, I guess. Casey Kelly was the piece that the Padres really wanted.

He's not overpowering on the mound in the minors but he has a lot of potential.
