The milgram obedience experiment is one of my favorites. Nothing really to do with evil, but you mentioned the stanford prisoners and it made me think of that one.
Come to think of it, a lot of early Psychology/Sociology experiments were pretty evil. "Lets see if we can get this dude to question his morals and act in a way he probably believes he wouldn't."

but as a brief assessment
they consider people's thought process concerning morality and how they develop without qualifying "right" and "wrong", but instead how people rationalize their actions
people who often (or exclusively) adhere to the law and order school of thought sometimes not only seem boring as fuck but also seem very judgemental and unrelatable
I always thought that skim milk was gross and watery. But I slowly got myself to drink it by having 1% for a year or so.
I can still drink 2% though.

Some folks say evil is more of a word than anything tangible or real, and is a holdover of mysticism and the belief in a soul. As many of those people that exist in the science community, there are just as many in that same community that believe that love is a tangible thing. Using no emperical evidence whatsoever, I posit that if love is real, evil is real too.
Once again, semantics can save us!!
"Love" is an emotion, a description of what a person feels given a certain set of conditions!
"Evil" is a concept, a word we ascribe to actions or events (or people!) that we don't like or that go against societal norms!
A better comparison would be if "love" is real, then "happiness" is also real, or if "evil" doesn't exist, neither does "good"
