It's probably a ridiculous suggestion, but I have yet to try out Minecraft, so perhaps some form of that, seeing as how the gamer community at large seemed to achieve geek sexual climax over the game in the past few months.

    Minesweeper!!

Or, if that doesn't appeal, what about an old classic like Unreal Tournament 2004?

Is there a way to set the defaults in games to play LAN instead of internet? I saw so many people playing on the internet against people, instead of playing together in a LAN game.

I'd suggest adding all the machines to the same Steam Group so that people can easily play LAN games. last year all the users were PAX####, but there was no quick way to find another LAN user.

    Civ5 isnt a good choice

Remember, the time limit is 45min for playtime on a freeplay machine at a time. Try and suggest games that fit in around that.

Just chiming in what many others are saying...TF2, SC2, MNC, Goldeneye: Source, L4D2, BF: BC2 (maybe with the new Vietnam?)

It'd be cool to have Civ5 and Minecraft but like BigRed said.

Gears of War. The 2nd one is better but only one of them is on PC. Maybe some AC Brotherhood for the multi.

Good god... If SMB is your idea of casual, I'd hate to see what you play for a challenge.

More on topic, I came to also suggest Minecraft. While I realize the futility of limiting single player to 45 minutes, is a local PAX server out of the question? It would be terribly neat to see what would pop out of the PAX hivemind.

That's actually a really cool idea - rather than having 45 minutes to play a discrete game, how about seeing what can be done as a whole over the weekend with a number of people contributing 45 minutes at a time? Hell, you could probably get some sort of grant for carrying out a "Functional Test of the Greater Internet F*ckwad Theory in a Positive Bias Sample".

    Or something like that.

I have no experience with the crafting of mines, but I'd be interested in playing around with it at East too, especially in a PAX-only persistent environment like that.

Another vote for SC2 and an easy way to create and join a game with the person sitting next to you. Whether this is through steam or the actual game browsers. Often we would enter the freeplay area as a group of 3 or 4 and getting a game going with just us 4 in it was more difficult than it should have been.

I agree with many of the previously suggested choices, especially TF2 and L4D2.

I'd also suggest making sure there's some casual stuff on there, like PvZ or Peggle. They work great for luring less hardcore-gamer friends into the freeplay room.

Too bad about the 45 min limit. Would be awesome to play old games like Oregon Trail. Or even way old like the text only games such as Wishbringer. Carmen Sandiego, Duke Nukem... can't seem to think of other titles.

    DONT FORD THE RIVER!

Get everyone killed in 15 minutes or get to your destination in 15 minutes? I forget the objective.

League of Legends would be so practical. Free download and if people have accounts they can just log on and have access to all their perks. Games are usually 25-40 min.

CS Source, TF2, HL2:Deathmatch etc never get old either.

This is the coolest idea. There should be one PC set up with minecraft on it that everyone has to take turns with.
