Metro 2033:
is an action-oriented video game with a combination of survival horror and first-person shooter elements. The game is based on the novel Metro 2033 by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky. It was developed by 4A Games in Ukraine and released in March 2010 for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.[2] In March 2006, 4A Games announced a partnership with Glukhovsky to collaborate on the game.[3] The game was announced at the 2009 Games Convention in Leipzig;[4] a first trailer came along with the announcement.[5]
This is a game that I'll be playing today, it's supposed to basically be Russian Half-Life and also very scary. I've decided to actually play this through, but I might pass out a few times due to fear.

They're handy to have for some things, but I can't really justify the expense of owning/running a car. I can always rent if I really need one for something.

Do you folks have hourly car rentals over there as well? For less than 20 bucks, I can rent a hybrid for a couple hours if I need to do something public transit fails at, like a huge pickup at Target.

It exists, but it's not really pervasive enough in Brum to be useful for me. There are more options in London.
Given that daily rentals are like £10-15, and the hourly rental places always require monthly membership, it's probably never going to be worth my while unless I start needing rental cars a lot more than I do now. Whenever I've rented a car in the past, the fuel I've used has always cost me more than the rental itself, so cheaper rental wouldn't make that much difference.
EDIT: Although I should say that hourly rentals might make more sense in the circumstance where I'd need to park the vehicle in a city centre.
But having a vehicle kicks a ton of ass is the end of that sentence.

The public transport system in this city is OK, but not fantastic.
True, although it is not that much for me. $600 a year for insurance and about $35 every other week for gas. Plus the oil changes and whatnot. Also my car cost $1500 and still runs like a champ almost a year later.
Well the good thing about Hawaii is that there are three major military bases and you are only allowed to take one car back to the states with you, otherwise you have to ship it. So I took advantage of someone offering his '98 Chevy Malibu for $1500 and got it. This car is in pristine condition and has never been smoked in.

Cheapest insurance quote I could get was £1600, VED is probably going to be at least £120 for anything but newish diesels and hybrids, and fuel costs are a lot higher. Last time I rented was to go back home, so I did about 600-ish motorway miles and spent about £140 on fuel.
Yeah, that's good. I found the car I wanted with all the extras I wanted, used but in good shape, only to find out it's been a smoker's car. Couldn't bear it.
