It is my favorite song on the album, Mike

    Pistols at dawn

Chicago isn't in my top 5, by contrast. It's a bit too twee, personally

TiK ToK is one of the best songs of the last decade, no doubt in my mind.

What's your definition of 'best?' What is your metric of quality?

Most meson-gluon interactions per waveform incidence.

    Personal enjoyment. Duh.

So, then, all the really shitty music that was really popular was good?

    Ok.

    That depends.

    Did you like it?

    No?

    Then I guess not.

    To you.

To a whole bunch of other people?

    Yeah, apparently it was.

i can't even get riled up over that

because the category "Worst song on the album Illinois by Sufjan Stevens" is like "Worst blowjob out of a series of 20 amazing blowjobs by the most beautiful women in the world"

true, but catchiness is a big, big part of modern music.

No. It is a big part in the music which you enjoy. There's a difference. Your view of music is incredibly skewed by what's popular. Music extends to outside of what's in the top 40 and Pitchfork at the moment.

Sure, but those are two merits that a lot of people just assume are easy or require no talent. Which is ridiculous. If that were the case, everyone on earth would have a number one single.

Well, no, wait; we like metal. Clearly, the worst genre of music.

But, seriously, I get the argument for catchiness. Catchy 'hook' riffs are important to hard rock and metal. Just, there's a difference between commercial success and artistic success. Granted, getting a few million club people to shake their asses is succeeding at moving people, but what about moving somebody on a deeper emotional level?

    I mean, whatever.
