If you booked the room and held it with a credit card, you aren't charged anything until check-out. At that time, you can choose to pay with whatever method you choose. Deposits are only required for people who did not provide a credit card number to hold the room.

Hotels do this so they can charge people the "deposit" amount if they don't show up and don't cancel their rooms within an adequate span of time (anywhere from 24-72 hours, sometimes more depending on hotel policy). People who do not have a credit/debit card to hold the room with are required to submit a deposit by check.

ah ha! i looked more carefully at the info in my onpeak confirmation email and found this:
Your credit card is being used as a guarantee only at this time. If you want to pay the required deposit by check, the check must be received no later than 02/04/2011.

still not super clear on whether cards are charged for the deposit or not at that time, but at least the mysterious february deadline has been revealed.

Thanks to the wonder that is hotwire I just snagged a room in the Westin Boston Waterfront. For less than the convention price. You may now all hate me.

Fun fact: While hotwire doesn't list the names of the hotels they do have maps showing their location. By using google maps you can find out what the hotel is.

    Too much paprika.

    Hey Peeps,
Just want to give a heads up about the Courtyard Marriot on Tremont. It's a absolutely beautiful hotel in a nice location (right near all the theaters) BUT downstairs theres a very loud club that often goes late into the night on Friday and Saturday nights. I found this out the hard way during Octobers W00tstock.

Given the awesomeness that is PAX sleep will be at a premium so figured you'd want a hotel that when you do retire for your 2 hours before the next big thing (tm) you'd actually be able to sleep.

Son and I are at Seaport :) , like the reviews and looking forward to it. , got bumped from badly managed Sheraton last year and had to make the $10 each way cab hike each day. Ended up at the Park Plaza...not too bad, but getting old.

"You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep space that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was young." "Why, what did she tell you?"

    "I don't know, I didn't listen."

Im having a hotel problem that id love to get your guys' opinion -

i originally booked a room through pax at the westin boston waterfront. i now realize that i have enough starwood preferred points to pay for a 3 night stay but the hotel is booked up online. When i call the hotel directly, they tell me that i cant use my points becuase the hotel is full. I then tell them that i have a reservation, its just through a third party. I get denied regardless

logistically, i have a room booked at the hotel. I should be able to pay through my points because the hotel has a no blackout policy and i havent paid the pax system yet, its merely a hold on a room for now.

    Any advice?

    its a secret to everyone

We're staying at the Eliot. we're packing 7 people in to a 2 bed suite, but I guess it has a pullout so we should be ok. Were gonna put the kid on the floor, I mean what's he gonna say.
My friends and I stayed at the Eliot last year (five of us in a 2 bed suite) with plenty of room We could have pretty easily fit a cot in there in addition to the couch.

Booked at Colonnade Boston with the early bird special of $159 and free internet. Only downside is having to drive to the convention center.

I stayed there for the last PAX and it was pretty nice. There's a T station literally right outside of the hotel.

Alright, so I have a question. I read the FAQ, but I just want to be entirely sure of my situation, so please be forgiving of me asking.

I booked a double at the Seaport (one bed), and I may be expecting a third and perhaps a fourth person to be coming along with me and my friend. Will this cost any extra to house them or can they just simply come in and sleep on the floor? Is this allowed, etc? Again, please forgive me, I know this has been posted in the Read Me, and probably somewhere in this thread, but I really just want to know 100% that I won't be breaking any rules or anything.

I have no idea if this will actually work or not but the 3rd party has not yet sent the reservations to the hotels. Once they do (which I think will be about a month out) your stay will be on file and then maybe then they can do something about it?

Basically they don't even have you on record as having a room booked there yet, it's just not in their system yet.

Unless that room is listed for triple or quad occupancy, you may run into trouble. Then again, they may not even care. Call the hotel for their policy.

Had friends who stayed there last year and were not impressed, the beds are apparently not very comfortable. So it's cheap for a reason.

Yeah I stayed there a few years ago, and I do remember it not being the best place to stay. It wasn't too terrible though. Just wondering if anyone else is staying there so we can possibly share a cab ride/take a T together to PAX.

I know it's not on their list for whatever reason but it's comparable in price and only 1.16 miles from the center. The Hyatt Regency is where I'm staying. A little less than some of the higher ones I've seen listed on here and very close.

If you click to submit a search first, the link to the entire block should show up on a tab to the right of the search result tab ([Search Results] and then [View Entire Block] should be choices up nearish the top).

Hopefully that makes sense, let me know if it doesn't!

    Anybody staying at Club Quarters?

Ever stay there before? I plan on walking to the convention as its only a 15-20 min walk and hope the hotel turns out well.

Anybody have an idea how parking works? Do you park then go to hotel or go to hotel first check in and then get a parking voucher?

Also I plan on trying to get 5 people in my four person suite, shouldnt be a problem I hope =P.

Let me know who's staying, there is a bar/pub connected right to the hotel, would be awesome to meet up.

I actually called my hotel today, (the Hyatt Regency). They were very helpful. I had a couple of things to request, like early check-in and two double beds.

But I was also able to ask them about getting to and from the airport as I wasn't going to be renting a car. They told me about the T-Train system.

So if no one can tell you about the parking situation at that particular hotel, I would just find their number and ask them that question. The guy at the Hyatt was really nice and helpful. After all, their job is hospitality. It's their job to answer all those questions. About the city as well, that's why most nice hotels have concierge service.

Even though the official hotel booking agent says the Renaissance is full, there are still rooms available. I booked through Orbitz and got in on a buy 2 nights, get the 3rd free deal so it ended up being just about the same as the PAX block of rooms was!

I just booked a 'name your own price' room on Priceline - I selected the waterfront/convention area as well as the coplay square area as places i would like to say.....The Westin Coplay accepted my offer of $100/night (friday through sunday) - not bad considering it's $199/night through the site. The only downside is you have no idea where you will stay...I selected 4 star hotels only.

that holiday inn looks like a good deal, especially since my original choice is ~5 miles away. doesnt look like there's a direct line but any idea on trains or buses to the convention center from there? would be sweet if it turns out i didn't have to drive back and forth every day.

The T-line is fairly close which can take you to the 7 bus line which drops you off at the convention center. Link: http://goo.gl/ix2PM

Is driving really such a hassle? It seems like a lot of people are using public transportation. I would think it's cheaper/faster to carpool and pay the $10 parking fee.

  • RevGutterRevGutter Registered User regular
    edited February 2011
thanks for the info. may still end up driving anyway depending on how much of a hassle public transport is. i'm a new yorker, i may be a little out of my element with how the boston transit systems works.
driving isnt a huge deal but there are a few reason i'm sure a lot of people want to avoid it. driving in a city you've never been can be tricky for some, there is limited parking at the convention center so people may not want to risk that, and also if you want to hit the bars after its nice to not have to worry about driving back to the hotel.
