There was a horse in the very first book, I imagine there is a single (to scale) cow somewhere that produces enough milk for the entire planet
Milking it is a real bastard for tiny mice, of course
The first book made it seem like there were possibly humans in the world, and also made references to the Christian God and Satan, but those elements were basically abandoned after that

Yeah, like the horse was pulling a human-sized cart and it was sort of hard to tell how big the church (St. Ninians?) was.
(wikipedia knows how smart Brian Jacques was! "Eulalia" ("Victory") is the war cry used by the Salamandastron fighting Hares and Badgers. It comes from "Weialala leia", the lament of the Valkyries in Richard Wagner's opera Götterdämmerung, as quoted by T.S. Eliot in The Waste Land.)

I still have no idea to pronounce that stupid war cry.
I loved his books back in middle school. I tried getting my aunt to read them, since she loves small fuzzy animals but she was pissed that ferrets were always bad guys (she owns like 10 ferrets).

Did Jacques ever address the "vermin are all evil" angle or did he stick to it in later books too?

Once in a while you got a good one. That one rat (i think) in "Mariel of Redwall" turned out to be a good guy, and Veil in "Outcast" reformed at the last second.

Yeah that used to irritate me even when I was reading it as a kid. Even in Outcast of Redwall, you have this stoat(?) that was raised by the Redwall people, but still turned out to be a massive dick, because apparently stoats are genetically determined to be dicks.
edit: Ok maybe I'm not remembering right. It's been a long time since I read them.

I have never read Redwall, I have seen the cartoon and do remember my skill martial arts friend doing something incredible to enter the dorm lounge as I watched it before my family picked me up for church.
*kung fu entrance*
HIM:They made a Redwall Cartoon?????
Me: Uhhh....Yes?
HIM:Good, here's that filipino dish of chocolate rice and coconut milk
*kung fu exit*
Me:.....thats good rice.

Nah, he was a dick for like 95% of his existence in the book. Then at the very end he's like "Wait dad, don't kill her," BAM, javelined.

I think I still have all of mine, up in the attic. I had everything from Redwall up to Pearls of Lutra, except for Mossflower I think. I kind of feel like re-reading them but I wonder if it would ruin the nostalgia.

Always so sad when Nicodemus dies.

That was a pretty cool callback to the first book. Asmodeus rocks.
but I enjoyed so many of them
Martin the Warrior was a total badass
We were members of the fan club and they would send the coolest Christmas cards from the UK.
Still a mousey coven in my heart though
nice
I own most of them in Paperback
and one in HC
I may have to rectify this
oh my god it was so good
my copy of Redwall is so damn worn
I liked this dude
I don't know if any of them are authentic.
