Dragon Quest IX Meeting

Here is the current up to date information:

The DQ9 meetings will be taking place in the handheld lounge on each of the three days at PAX.

These are the meeting times:

Friday: 5:30pm
Saturday: 2:00pm
Sunday: 2:00pm

Friday may be a bit of a crunch, but if the Handheld Lounge gets too full, we'll move across the Skybridge to an area near the Food Court. The volunteers in the lounge will direct stragglers if needed. See here:
Mi96O.jpg

If you can't make it to one day, feel free to show up on those days when you can. If you can be there all three days, so much the better. It will help out those players who can only be there one day.

Our Twitter account is @dq9paxmeet. I will be tweeting about an hour before each meeting as a reminder and when I get into the handheld lounge. How well this works is dependant on the Convention Center's Wi-Fi which may be slammed. Plan accordingly.

How can you identify us?

Here is my hideous countenance:
lPbSg.jpg

A Picture of PoeticMadness can be found lower in the thread.

Sairys wyvernscale says she'll be wearing a blue slime pin.

Wizard will be wearing his slime baseball cap.

thorshauk will have a slime shirt one day and be dressed as Blue Link another.

For those of you who'll be walking around in tag mode: I am reliably informed that you can only tag three people before you need to stop and start again. At the very least you need to get out of tag mode and leave the inn. Then you can go back in and start tag mode again. Be aware.

SEE YOU ALL AT PAX!

Original Post:
Here we go! In the grand tradition of the various Pokemon related meetups we shall attempt a meeting for all Dragon Quest 9 fans. Fill up your inn! Trade maps! Join others for quests! Or just bask in the company of like minded gamers.

There is one thing you shoule know above all: We have no idea what we're doing. But it's sure gonna be fun to try and get this going.

With our relative inexperience in mind I invite those people who've organized meetups like this to offer any suggestions. I guess my first question is "How did you guys get a room for the meeting?"

For the rest of you I've set up a twitter account: @dq9paxmeet. It's empty right now, but I'll be using it durring PAX to send out info and updates as needed. (I myself won't get getting to PAX until Friday morning about the time the doors open.)

If you have any other input, feel free to post. Suggestions for the best times to meet will be gladly accepted.

No, that pretty much summarizes it. I'm not getting to PAX until Friday afternoon myself.

I think we may have more to work with when the schedule gets out so we can try to find an ideal time for everyone to meet for map trading goodness.

Otherwise, my only request is that if you intend to make it, (or even think you may be interested in making it) you post here and let us know what our potential size will be for the meet up. I know at PAX Prime, we took over an entire hand-held lounge and then some.

So yeah, I'd go with Hero name and Class you intend to use when tagging. Also what maps, if any, you will be primed to hand out.

Trion, if you don't mind, you could build the list in the start post.

    Anyway, for me:

My hero is Sam, and I'm a Gladiator. I will be handing out:

Masayuki (Ruby Path of Doom 87)
Kawasaki Locker (Emerald World of Gloom 86)
    Silver Marsh of Bane 58
    Emerald Snowhall of Hurt 81
    Dragonlord 1
    Malroth 1
    Baramos 1
    Zoma 1
    Estark 1
    Psaro 1
    Nimzo 1
    Murdaw 1
    Mortamor 1
    Nokturnus 1
    Orgodemir 1
    Dhoulmagus 1
    Rhapthorne 1

I will be at PAX East for all three days.

This is gonna be my first ever PAX and I'm only going for Saturday, but I'm gonna try my best to get there and join in on the festivities.

Hero name is Kyle and class is Paladin.

I'll come back and fully edit the map list I'll be offering later (never actually done multi for DQ9 so I have no idea how this really works) but I've got a handful of the legacy maps, along with a few higher leveled maps. I actually maxed out the number of maps I'm allowed to carry...

Here's a pic of what I may look like at PAX. If my first costume doesn't work out, then I'll be wearing this:
    12841_207230818861_743528861_3194647_4932882_n.jpg

If my costume does work out, I'll now be wearing this hat...
    il_fullxfull.89510666.jpg

    ...and hoodie:
    446922185v1_350x350_Front_Color-Black.jpg

So yes. Assuming my clothes get delivered in time, I'll be wearing the hoodie and hat. If not, I'll be dressed like the first picture.

Oh shoot. I forgot to mention, and I'm glad PoeticMadness did so...

State what days you'll be at PAX East. I'm thinking a meet up on each day is easier to work with than just one big meet up. That way, even Friday-only, Satuday-only and Sunday-only guests can get in on the tagging action.

Sure. I'll build something once we have a few more people checking in and/or when we get closer to PAX.

For myself I have a Hero named Trion and his class is Ranger. I'll be at PAX all three days.

    The maps I have:

Basalt Tunnel of Joy (Lv. 5)
Basalt Mine of Joy (Lv. 6)
Graphite Mine of Dolour (Lv. 10)

But I want to stress that even if you don't have an impressive list of maps like me ( ;-) ) you're still invinted to show up and get the maps being handed out, get characters for your inn or just hang out. PAX is a social event after all.

I should have at least a couple more by the time PAX rolls around.
I am unsure if I will definitely make it to a meetup, it all depends on when it is and what's going on that day. I will be there all 3 days. I have one class on Friday but I think I'm skipping that and getting to the show early (hopefully around opening time). Either way I definitely plan on putting my game into tag mode while walking around the exhibition floor and I hope others will too so I can get some people in my inn.

If I can ask a really stupid question - how far in the game do you have to get before you can start doing this? It seems really cool but I haven't gotten very far yet and I don't know if I have the map-sharing mode unlocked.

I believe once you get to Stornway you can invite people to your inn.
And I think you get your first map from the Quest "Collapsus's Call". After that I think you get maps by completing the grottos.

There are also a few more quests that give you random maps, if I'm not mistaken...and I think they're the DLC quests, but I really don't remember. It's been a month or two since I've actually completed a quest. But Legacy Maps are almost exclusive to quest completion; the only one that comes to mind that isn't quest exclusive is one you get from the highest level grotto boss, whom I've never actually seen v.v

Finnally a chance to fill up my inn! I'm gonna make a blue slime pin to wear so folks know that I'm carrying my game around. I also plan on running tag mode while in the exhibitor's hall with one of my higher level maps - prolly Ruby Path of Dread lvl 95 unless I get the other high end maps I have collected beaten before then.

We don't care about "good enough". Even if you just drop by while you're in tag mode you can get people for your Inn which will unlock rooms you weren't able to enter before. I've completed the game and haven't been able to do this yet. Plus, cool people will be there.

Note for everyone saying they won't be able to contribute much: If you can get through the first ~1.5 hours needed to reach Stornway, you're already contributing a ton.

Everyone needs tags to fill up their inn, and even with no map to hand out, you're helping everyone get one step closer to the Full Inn of 30 tags.

And even if you don't have any maps to give, you can still receive them. So no fretting, because we're all about having fun, killing monsters and meeting other heroes to share our adventures with!

And yeah, running tag mode is a good plan.

As an aside, assuming I don't forget like a fool, I will be wearing my slime baseball cap.

That's good to know! I was worried that my lack of maps would make me useless. But still, I'm 28 hours into the game, and haven't yet found 1 map, I need to start working on my questing in game!

OK everyone, the schedule is up! Time to discuss when we want to do this. Wizard has suggested a meeting on each day and that's fine with me. I'm guessing that Saturday will be the biggest day so if your schedule permits only showing up once, I'd shoot for that day.

I'll throw out the following times to get the ball rolling:

Friday at 4:00. This will give everyone time to arrive and get their bearings.
    Saturday at 2:00.
    Sunday at 2:00.

If you wish to make a change, say so and we'll see what needs to be done. Meeting will probably be in the handheld lounge, but we'll see what the map looks like when it comes out.

Saturday is the only day that it might conflict with Panels I want to see. The other two days seem perfectly fine to me.
Can't really suggest a change though since my Saturday has tons of panels I'm interested in, and none of my major ones are at 2. So for now that looks fine to me.

Yeah, I was having a lot of the same problems. Every time I could think that would be convenient had something else I wanted to do. Eventually I just picked what looked like a good time and went with it.

But you should feel free to say what you want and we can try to figure out what works best.

Well I'm not sure if I can make the sat time but prolly the fri or sun times should be okay. If all else fail it's tag mode in the halls to the rescue!

If you don't like the Saturday time, please feel free to suggest another one. We'll go with the time that works best for the most people.

Also, I plan to edit the OP with people's map and character info later this week.

I'll be at PAX all 3 days, tagging all the way. Probably won't arrive in time for a Friday meetup, but I'll try to get to one of the others. I've got all the good maps from the one NWS meetup I went to, but I still haven't beaten any of them so I don't have much to share.

Yep... I think I'll go too. I have a three-day pass and everything, and am just DYING to expand my Quester's Rest!

By the way, my hero's name is David (which is my real first name). I've already maxed out the Minstrel and Ranger classes at level 99 and am currently revocating them (they're now at level 1). I'm at the Gladiator class right now. My other party members are named Julio, Jimmy, and Pauline.

As for maps... I haven't decided which one to bring yet! ^_^

    Hey everyone.

The idea of co-op DQ9 had me so pumped I went out and bought it today so I can try to grind as fast as possible prior to PAX. I'm there all 3 days. How does the co-op work? Do you join a party and all 4 of you control your individual characters? Does the challenge level get ramped way up?

creid: We can fix that with the power of Co-op.

Amycus: Your hero hops into the other person's world and then you have free access to it. You can warp to any of the cities they have accessible (Which means end of the game equipment before you even meet the second boss) You can travel anywhere that doesn't require the boat or the...other vehicle.

The host can summon you, but you can decline the request.

And no, the challenge stays the same. (Or decreases) If you fight alongside other heroes, everyone gets all of the drops and the money. EXP gets split up according to level, just like in single player...with one change. The total EXP is boosted by 10% per other hero in the fight.

(So you could get a 30% boost.)

    A couple of things:

I've updated the OP with a list of the character and map information that peole have provided.

There have been a couple of people saying the Saturday at 2 time isn't good fro them. Please feel free to suggest another time if you wish. If that works better for more people we'll go with that. Otherwise there are three days of meetings, so there should be something for everybody.

Finally if anybody wants to let us know how we can identify you when you show up, it might make it easier for us to get you into the group.

I'm fine with anytime, because this is my first PAX and I have a very scarce idea of what's going on, chances are I won't be adhering to any real schedule. I'll also update my first post with a picture of the costume I'll be wearing and walking around in :D

That's perfect. At the very least we can all congregate on you for Saturday. Thanks!

Figured I'd post my Character and Maps

    Name: Chronius
Class: Paladin (Though It's lvl 6. Lol)

The only worthwhile map I have is a lvl 58 Silver Marsh of Bane.

    Awesome, we're getting an Enforcer.

I suppose now we need to find a map and figure out a designated meeting spot for the various days. I figure a handheld lounge area would be ideal. Any thoughts, Trion?
