I deleted all of mine, unfortunately, except for this post-humous exchange with Will (which I hope was okay, because I didn't give him any information at all, I was just curious what his role was):

what would make you think that?

Partly random hunch based on the PMs you sent. Partly that you didn't contact me after I was dead to say anything like "OH SUX U R DEAD." Partly that you are now responding with "what would make you think that?"

I'm not some super-secret special that can come back from the dead to wreak vengeance upon evil-doers, or anything, I was just curious. Though if you want to keep your cover until after the game just in case, I understand.

But if you are a bad guy, I hope you get stabbed in the face. With Larlar.

larlar has a world of pain coming to him for his bad council

Oh man, I deleted all mine too... between this game and general laziness on my part my box was almost full.

SMWN sent some great ones, though. In the last couple hours he was really active and scheming to save my butt. I have no idea what he was going to do with the information he wanted, but I wish I'd had it for him so I could have seen.

Larlar's last PM was so hopeful before the narration went up. I really thought we had a shot.

i would have switched over to geebs if the writing had been on the wall. larlar would have died and the evening would have looked like

    Will
    a duck

    vs

    moe
    ceres
    whoopsie

would have been a better shot for the good guys, but i think that the black knights would still have had a chance if i had been able to maintain my duplicity.

here was the last one, from after Larlar decided that ceres was a badguy and therefore so was whoopsie and so he brought in a duck!

I'm bringing in A Duck! because we got all the proof we need now. I can't believe I managed to pull this shit off in time. This group PM is in case the black knights pick me tonight, because you three need to know for certain that you're all good knights. Unless I screwed up, winning is now inevitable. (But we were fucked a few hours ago anyway, so even if I'm wrong it's not like we had anything to lose.)

Bill, ceres will get voted off tonight and she'll be definitely revealed to be a black knight. Geebs and SMWM are now without a doubt the other two. We've been monitoring userpage PM communication and using what we know from the phalla thread so far, and all we've observed is consistent with this conclusion. I'm assuming Geebs threw in a final vote for ceres because he knows he can't change majority, and if he doesn't join our side he'll get picked off as easily as SMWM will after tonight for backing a girl who's about to become our first dead evil knight.

I can send you a shit-ton of PMs I, Moe and Will have been sending, or some more believable PM chatlogs, but it seems like you already think I'm on the level, which can probably save a lot of excessive and tedious convincing. If you have any questions, let me know. The great thing is that you've already voted in our favor, so to confirm that we're not the three black knights, all you have to do is wait and watch ceres get revealed.

Following what we know, we'll be able to take out a black knight every night from now on, and one of us will be alive at the end, all by ourselves.

    I'm so excited.

We fucking did it. From the jaws of defeat we fucking did it.

Unless I did fuck something up, and one of you is a black knight, and then WHOOPS.JPG

If you got a summary I'll read it, but I don't have any reason to not trust you at this point. This has been sort of a week from hell for me, but I'll try to keep more on top of things.

I'll see about writing something up tomorrow after work if you're still alive after tonight. I want to go to sleep just as soon as I find out what happens, and if you end up being tonight's black knight's target any work I do beforehand will just be an enormous waste of time.

If I die tonight, I trust Will and Moe not to fuck it up. I hope.

Ahaha, you were all so sure.

Seriously, I could not have been given less information. I got the Villager PM and that was it. I tried to explain this a number of times, but the truth makes you suspicious, apparently. I actually figured that I wasn't given any special part or role or ability on purpose since I was new to the whole thing, and figured that was for the best. But then I kept having conversations that went like this:

"You have information. Give it to me."
    "No I don't. I know absolutely nothing."
"Yes you do. Give it to me now."
"No, I really don't. I have no idea what's going on. Do you know what's going on?"
"This will go much easier for you if you give me the information."
    "What information! For what! Why!"
"You're only making this harder on yourself."
"IF I HAD IT I WOULD GIVE IT TO YOU RAWR I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT GAME WE'RE PLAYING"

What fascinates me about phalla games is the gradual shift in mentality you get as the people involved play in more and more games. The first time out, lots of people are all, "Okay, I'm a good guy, so I will just be honest about being a good guy and everything will work out." And then all the honest people get screwed, and everyone learns a Valuable Lesson.

And so in subsequent games, everyone is all, "Okay, so this person says he's a good guy, which is just what a bad guy would say, so this person must be guilty by virtue of saying he's innocent, and this guy over here who looks really guilty is clearly innocent, because no guilty person would actually look guilty." And everyone suddenly becomes a quadruple-super-secret-agent and there is much hilarity.

Except then everyone gets to a phase where they know that pretty much anything uttered by anyone is completely valueless because every statement is a fourth-order reverse-extra-backsies hyper-untruth. And so the game consists of a few autistic data monkeys running spreadsheets and calculating the precise probability that X is a werewolf based on their past voting record and the whole thing becomes retarded.*

Which is why I stopped participating in these things in the forums at large.

But we are all somewhere in between Stage One and Stage Two in here, which is why these are still way fun.

*I have been an autistic data monkey. I am suitably ashamed.

So by your reckoning it is possible to have fun for the approximate number of games it will take for the last of us to become completely and totally jaded to humanity?

I think these games work best with small groups of people. I did a little research before this game, and I found out that the villagers are more likely to win if consecutive games are played. And people remember duplicitous behavior across multiple games. Playing a bad guy honestly goes a lot more toward your credibility than anything else.

I also discovered that badguys have a 50-100% chance of winning when there are 4 of them in a 12 person game, and that % drops dramatically if a seer is introduced. Of course, wacky hijinks ensued when the seer died the first day to villager vote, and the badguys targeted shot was nullified two nights in a row.

Finally, with the low number of people playing, the role of the villager becomes extremely important, instead of the cannon fodder in larger games. Convincing all of the villagers to act together quickly became extremely important, as any dissent would allow the badguys to sway the vote and quickly outnumber the group (which is what did, in fact, happen). Lastly, I had a lot of fun writing all of the narrations, and I'm glad you guys had fun too. I was secretly hoping for Lalar to be the last one standing because he was a cactus, and also because each night the good guys lived meant one more night of narrations.

Basically, yeah. It didn't matter if my bullshit was convincing or not, it was all about what I could pull from the responses I got.

What I sent out was basically a variation of this:
Things aren't looking good, but I have an ace up my sleeve. Wait, does that analogy work with a medieval knights theme?

Well whatever, the point is I have a Special Ability but it comes with certain, restrictions. Specifically, I can only use it against a certain hidden character and I can only use it against them publicly, once. Then it's kaput.

The caveat to this is that my hidden target is likely to be one of the black knights, it's just sort of a packaged deal. Now, I don't care whether or not you are a good guy or a bad guy. I don't care because I am certain you are not the hidden character I am after.

But what I do need is a clue to who the other black knight is. I have my suspicions, but if I use my abilities publicly by accusing the wrong person, I'll have wasted the ability and it's only meant for this hidden character.

So what do you know, what can you tell me about the other black knights?

Like I said, it wasn't mostly a disaster. It helped me solidify that Ceres was good, but it also made me think that Moe was in cahoots with someone simply because he did not respond. I was on the fence about Geebs and Will took me by completely surprise. If I had longer than the Eleventh Hour with him, I might have sussed it out better, but as it stands, he was the shocking revelation for me.

That sort of shit is fun to pull. Only downside is that you should only do it if you want to die within a night or two, because the second anyone finds out that you've lied to anyone for any reason you are suddenly THE BAD GUY ARRRRRGHHH and good luck trying to explain to the angry mob that you were just trying to farm for info.

My favorite experience as a player was this one game where someone found out I was a baddie and posted about it in the thread. After that I sent out PMs to maybe 2/3 of the remaining players (which I think was something like 30 people) alternately giving them the names of people to trust, the names of people not to trust, and information on various roles in the game, some of it accurate and some of it full of shit.

I'm not sure if the resultant chaos really did anything beneficial, but it was awesome to watch the collective O_o as everyone was trying to figure out what the fuck.

That was back before the Great Phalla Singularity.

    You lied to me!

Easily helped along by the fact that I am, in some respects, the most gullible person I know. A former boss of mine had me firmly convinced with a single remark for a full five minutes or so that it rained frogs in their parking lot every October. The worst part? I'd been working in that building for two years already. The even worster part? That is what finally made me think he was lying. "Hey... wait a minute... this didn't happen last year..." Not the fact that I'd lived about 5 miles away for most of my life or that it doesn't rain frogs places. Yes, at the age of 24 you could still easily convince me things a 6-year-old wouldn't believe.

shut up, I'm bad at these.
