Man, Thai food is like my favorite Asian food. Japanese outside certain things is really boring and bland. Chinese is good but too heavy most of the time. I like Vietnamese but I am super picky on eating it and where. Good Thai though, yum yum yum.

I like the boring Japanese food :(

I love sushi, love nikujaga, love Japanese curry, miso, ramen, udon, soba(yaki and zaru) and all sorts of Japanese food. Don't get me wrong. But Japan also has stuff like chawanmushi which is like the most boring stuff ever. Its literally flavorless egg. I do like Japanese food and after living there I crave lots of it all the time. But compared to Thai it is really really bland.

I do not understand spicy food. I grew up in Asia ffs but I do not understand truly spicy food.

It overpowers any other taste, and over time ends up killing a lot of your taste buds.

    eh it's an acquired taste.

Tastebuds lose their sharpness as you age, but to my knowledge, spicy foods don't kill them. They aren't even what senses spicy things on your tongue. It sort of seems like they should in the same way that staring at the sun makes you go blind or standing in front of a giant stack of speakers at a concert will make you go deaf, but it's different.

Oh god yes, man should of thought about that first. Anyhow my father has managed to do something to his tastebuds.

He also eats ridiculous amounts of salt. Which I tell him is bad for him, but he doesn't care.

aren't they saying now that your body is supposed to be able to regulate dietary salt and that internal regulation and not dietary salt is the fundamental problem to hypertension now?

    i dunno. i thought i read that.

but you're right - getting used to oversalted foods really cripples your ability to taste a whole lot of flavors. luckily, cutting out salt for a few miserable weeks will generally restore your senses.

I don't really drink soft drinks. I have diluting juice at home which I have two glasses of a day (as in two glasses where a bit has been diluted in water) and a can of something fizzy maybe once every few weeks (usually vimto - stings like hell but is really refreshing when you've been stuck in the air conditioned hell holes that are the studying facilities at Uni). Otherwise I just drink tea and coffee.

I only drink soft drinks because it's usually all that's available when I'm eating out.

Non-Coke/Pepsi styled products (HFCS bombs) are generally better.

Well the evidence I've heard is contradictory so I'm not entirely sure what I think is true but I'd veer on the safe side just in case.

    A) Cutting out salt from your diet can lower your blood pressure by a good 5-10 mmHg.

    B) Only 10% of the population are unable to properly excrete excess salt and may have hypertension as a result.

I imagine it's somewhere in between. That 10% of the population can get real high increases of blood pressure from eating salt, but everyone else keeps it fairly normal but cutting out the salt with generally give a 5 mmHg decrease in any case.

So I reckon it's always worth a try cutting out salt for a couple of months to see if your blood pressure gets better, and if it does, stick with it.

gah so many locked chests in RPGs are stupid.

I hate when I have to backtrack to open something then it turns out it wasn't worth doing in the first place.

But the real problem is that the one time it was totally worth it makes you give it in a shot in every game.

I add small amounts of salt to certain recipes I cook. It is an important part of the flavor of course. But I tend to not add it extra to anything. Actually my house in general is pretty low sodium just because we don't care for it.
