Last year, the Onion's AV Club treated us to a bunch of bands covering a bunch of songs by a bunch of other bands

Readers generated this list of songs, and when the AV Club get a band to come into the studio, they have to pick one of the remaining uncovered songs from this list:
Belle & Sebastian, “Like Dylan In The Movies”
Big Star, “September Gurls”
Blur, “Girls And Boys”
Chumbawamba, “Tubthumping”
The Clash, “Janie Jones”
Danzig, “Mother”
Fine Young Cannibals, “She Drives Me Crazy”
Gary Numan, “Cars”
Huey Lewis & The News, “The Power Of Love”
The Human League, “Don’t You Want Me”
Jawbreaker, “Boxcar”
Kanye West, “Runaway”
Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton, “Islands In The Stream”
LCD Soundsystem, “All My Friends”
Loretta Lynn, “The Other Woman”
Otis Redding, “Try A Little Tenderness”
Pixies, “Gigantic”
Prince, “Little Red Corvette”
Sugar, “If I Can’t Change Your Mind”
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, “Where Have All The Rude Boys Gone?”
They Might Be Giants, “Birdhouse In Your Soul”
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, “American Girl”
Toto, “Africa”
The White Stripes, “Fell In Love With A Girl”
Wilco, “Shot In The Arm”

And here's the first installment, Iron and Wine covering George Michael

And also some highlights from last year

Ted Leo does Tears for Fears

The Clientele does MIA

Cymbals Eat Guitars do Superchunk

The Swell Season do Two-Headed Boy

The Walkmen do REM

Andrew WK does Silent Night

Anyway, we've got another 24 weeks of potentially great cover songs to look forward to

Titus Andronicus has already done their song, as you can see from the walls

I hope it's Fell In Love With A Girl or Don't You Want Me

Okay, so basically, about, eh, two weeks or so ago, I had one of the rare dreams I remember vividly. Within this dream, first what happened was we were sure there was a full-size helicopter in my bedroom that had David Bowie inside it. Except that it was a remote-control helicopter, so I had to help land it. Following this, we open the doors to discover it is a fake David Bowie, made of wood, because he has screws for eyes. On his back was a hand-carved note that while I didn't read, I was certain was for me. Then I ran through and arcade chasing after real David Bowie, who had to play a gig for all the stars and moons (the planets couldn't make it, they were busy on a massive group date with the black holes) and I turned around and I saw Ziggy-Stardust era David Bowie and he made out with me and told me he was my spirit animal.

yeah I started to get sick of last year's intro/outro

the new one sounds like it was taken from some arcade fire song?

I really liked Clem Snide's cover of Journey's Faithfully that he did for this even though I couldn't decide if the whistling at the end was cute or silly.

My seventh grade algebra teacher was a huge Rick Springfield fan. Our Spanish teacher bought her the album with Jessie's Girl on it for Christmas.

I feel you on that... I can't say I didn't find it a bit adorable either.

But as far as covering the song in a way that was confined to voice and ukelele, I think it was a pretty good way to go for the "big ending".
