Stop requiring experience for jobs that require none.

    i got a promotion recently

which means i wont have to work at home anymore

    That rules honestly.

Working at home sucks. If you work at home you can never actually go home. But I still have to do this job where I drive 3,000 miles a month until they organize some other training. augh.

Yeah, I like being able to work from every now and then, but I don't feel like I have the discipline to pull it off full time.

It's especially bad working at home if you're not good at or are unable to compartmentalize where you're actually doing your work. Even when you can, it still sucks, though.

Or, conversely, again, stop requiring a PhD or MA/MS and only want to pay $25,000 a year! I can get that working full time + some overtime at fucking Target.

I work from home about 90% of the time and love it. The key for me was making a separate office space in which I was working, so there's a difference between being at home and at work. I'd hate to go back to having a real job again :)

ha, if you were a creative type, this would be cool: http://www.google.com/intl/tr/jobs/uslocations/mountain-view/product/doodle-engineer-mountain-view/index.html

also, zip/anyone else, my friend who works at the goog said

"Right, it's like a very schoomzy job.

I would email the recruiter asking for a NY position for sure though. No harm trying. Recruiters get a commission for every successful hire. Milk that. "

in a case like that, should i look at the nyc office's job listings and suggest one, or how would i word the response? basically say i'm not looking to relocate right now but would be open to consider any open positions in the ny office if they are available? or what

Wouldn't hurt to have a few NY office positions in mind that you know that they are hiring for and that you know are a better fit for your background. Then just call up the recruiter and throw it out there. "Hey, thanks for getting in touch, not really all that interested in the sales gig, but I was wondering if you could help me get set up with a few of these gigs in NY..." etc..

Like your guy said, if they get a commission off of each new hire that's pretty good incentive to play dice with you.

I work from home sometimes too. Usually it's because I have an appointment, because of my commute, it's just easier to not go into the office.

I don't enjoy it too much though. I like having a clear separation of work and home. When I do work from home, I set up camp at the kitchen table instead of at my desk. That helps a little.

I work from home once or twice a week and it is the best. Have an office at my place I never use, I just plop the work computer on the dinner table and work while watching tv. Gives me time to catch up on the DVR. Plus not having to put on pants and still be productive feels boss

Oh god dammit a friend convinced me to send in my resume to her company.

It has been that long since I have applied for a job I feel like I am 16 again and am asking a girl for her phone number.

Huh. I'm going to relate this to contracting, because every phone interview for me is like screening a hooker.

Do I have to explain who the hooker is?

I always want to go sit on the couch, but I'm afraid of falling asleep if i do haha

I do like having robe and slippers while I'm at home.

Not going to like doing it in the summer though, cause my apartment has no AC.

Getting the 2+ hours a day back that I would be commuting, plus having my internet/phone/cell paid for plus not having to spend money on commuting plus having more freedom to work how and when I choose drastically outweighs the benefits of going into the office, for me.

It's been said, though, that one of the big problems with working from home is that you're always at work. My job often demands that I be available and working at all hours anyway, so really it's not a huge difference for me.

Ya, I imagine I'd be more into working from home if I weren't able to work during my commute (~1.5hr each way)

I get phone calls and emails all the time when I'm at home, but I can usually only do real work in the office. The joys of being an analytical chemist and needing instrumentation to get results.

I can run statistics, do calculations, and make suggestions at home though. That and conference calls. Lots of calls. Questions. Questions that were already answered in emails and reports if people could just read the fucking things I send them. But oh well...job security.

Downside to not having a phone is that none of us (the web devs and designer) knew how to use the phones. We needed help using the conf room phone.
To be fair, none of the buttons were labeled.
Now they are and all is well.

true. i'll at least look at listings. can't really do the resume as i don't have a copy here. it's also badly formatted, annoyingly, as i previously did it in pages and now need to do it in word and i need to make it formatted right.

Hello job thread. I was fired from my office job today. 10-15 hours a week of coming into the office, getting on Facebook and sitting there for hours doing nothing.

My managers know that I have other, better paying freelance gigs and often would ask if I could leave early or if I could have the day if the circumstances were right. I never left or didn't come in when we were busy (which is a rarity itself.)

Just frustrated. Grr. Problem drinking and OU baseball to ensue. Wasn't expected it at all. Sucks after finally getting a decent night's sleep to wake up to an email from your boss saying, "Turn your timesheet and keys in today."

I just updated mine and was going to try a reformat, but lost motivation. Change frightens and confuses me, but what format examples might you have? Mine is at three pages now and all I can think of is adding to it.

Stale has a pretty cool format, from what I remember.
