Put me down for Ron Paul.

I reckon he's got enough crazy to get the crazy people, a large internet following to provide stuff for lazy journalists to dig up whilst being enough towards the saner side to balance out the crazy once everyone else has torn each apart. Some sort of McCain 2.0. Trump will try to copy Palin I think, and move himself more towards being a media celebrity.

Plus I think the real front runners (Romney and Huckabee) will wait this one out to get the crazy out of the system, and they try properly next time. I'm probably wrong though.

Trump is supposedly either going to announce or renounce his candidacy on the season finale of that "You're Fired" show. Because that seems like a respectable venue for that sort of an announcement.

I'd also like to change my prediction, because Haley Barbour is basically fucked at this point. I'm gonna put one down on the Trumpmeister, with an option to Romney if he drops out early.

Romney will be too old in 2016, not sure about Huckabee, but he will be so far removed from an actual elected term by then that I doubt hed wait again.

More importantly, what makes any of you think the Republicans will be less crazy by 2016? I mean, I'd hope they were, but if 2008-2011 has taught me anything, it's that republicans love to double down on crazy.

    http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/04/trump-bill-ayers-wrote-obamas-book-video.php?ref=fpb
"Look, he was born 'Barry Soetero.' Somewhere along the line, he changed his name," said Trump -- referring to the surname of Obama's mother's second husband, Lolo Soetoro, whom she married four years after Obama was born. "I heard he had terrible marks, and he ends up in Harvard. He wrote a book that was better than Ernest Hemingway, but the second book was written by an average person."

"You suspect Bill Ayers?" said Hannity.

"I said, Bill Ayers wrote the book," Trump replied.

Trump also added during the discussion: "He was best friends with Bill Ayers. Bill Ayers was a super-genius. And a lot of people have said he wrote the book. Well recently, as you know last week, Bill Ayers came out and said he did write the book."

"Barack Obama wouldn't be president -- and, you know, I wrote many best sellers, and also, number one bestsellers including The Art of the Deal. So I know something about writing. And I want to tell you, the guy that wrote the first book didn't write the second book [The Audacity of Hope]. Obama made a big mistake when he wrote the second book. Because the second book was not Ernest Hemingway, it was about 37 classes below. So, the first book is Ernest Hemingway-plus. The second book was written by somebody that was much more average."
I like how writing a best seller means that he knows how to write well. I can't wait for the course on writing by Snooki.

I am really rooting for a Ru Paul/Ron Paul ticket but as is my money is on T-Paw. Romney is unpopular with the base, Barbour is a Southern caricature, Palin and Trump are obviously practical jokes being played on America for the purpose of getting publicity for their respective media empires. Daniels isn't running, Rubio will be a contenda in 2016 but not yet, and Huckabee hasn't lost weight. If Huck had gone on a diet again I could see him getting the nom but the fact that he hasn't dieted I think shows he'd rather stay on Fox News. Process of elimination leaves T-Paw.

    Bridge says no.

Which is more of a disqualifier? Bridge, Romneycare, Huck being fat, everything about Palin/Trump, Barbour being Boss Hogg? Every Republican candidate has at least one reason why not them - I think T-Paw's is the weakest disqualifier. Bridge was a week's newscycle and it was years ago. The American Society of Civil Engineers comes out with that report every single year that gives our infrastructure a D+ or whatever and nobody seems to worry much. I hope bridge becomes an issue because I have a boner for infrastructure improvements and would love to see Dems coming out in favor of them but I just don't see it resonating that much, especially among Republican primary voters.

As much as I would love to see Palin or Trump or Paul take the primary, ain't no fuckin way.

If the Pubs were smart, they would go with something like a Huck/Romney mash up. Huck's got the folksy demeanor and the social issue cred, and Romney has the shark-like business acumen to give the ticket some economic chops.

I'mma go with Romney, though. This election will be all about the economy, and there aren't many candidates up there that combine strong economic understanding with not being a complete nutter.

The GOP really needs a McCain. Someone who is insider-y enough to convey experience while maintaining that air of I'm-My-Own-Person (even if it's completely full of shit). The people clamor for a Palin or a Trump, but they don't really want a Palin or a Trump. They want a McCain that can talk like a Palin. And the closest they've got is a Romney, who can look presidential and yet show his hip, edgy side by inquiring as to who let the dogs out.

Yeah, I think it'll be some combination of Huck/Rommey in a conservative reprise of the Kerry/Edwards milquetoast-off in 2004.

Everyone is else either unknown, compromised or hated by the republican establishment (or some combination.) I don't think McCain would win the primary again even if he decided to run; too old, not particularly loved by the corporate/fundraising side, and pretty limited as a speechmaker/campaigner.

If I were going to bet a longshot I'd bet Rick Perry. Relatively charismatic, can somewhat credibly run under the "outsider" mantle, and would probably capture the tea party side of the republican electorate if matched against huck/rommey.

I'm thinking either Huckabee or Romney.

Probably Huckabee, as he polls somewhat well against Obama and can survive a primary. Romney's war chest is impressive though, and he certainly can drag moderates away from Obama.

But me down for Huckleberry and I'll see how I feel in the morning.

Haley Barbour is my dream candidate in the way that Palin or Trump is for others.

My actual prediction? Pawlenty. He's decent at fundraising, he's been hiring the right staff and he's in full pander mode to the Tea Party. Yeah, he supported cap and trade and a bridge collapsed on his watch, but Fox and most conservative blogs are already carrying water for him on these issues.

Mostly because he's taking crazy stands. He's said we shouldn't raise the debt sealing. That we should defund the DADT repeal. He thought last week's budget deal was insufficient before the CBO and others started poking holes in it. He will unequivocally state that BHO was born in the US and that birtherism shouldn't be an issue, but he'll make jokes about it at Tea Party rallies.

Basically, he's swung hard right for the primaries and will then pivot to his "sam's club republican "-shtick/"I'm just an average joe" approach during the general. "I was a blue state governor. You can trust me."

The dude's positioning himself to be everyone's second choice, the consensus candidate once we rule out the more obvious frontrunners (Romney [because of healthcare], Palin [because she can't win], Huckabee and Trump [because they won't run]).

I'm sort of livid about something today. I came in to church this morning and the Buffalo Gap Round Up was laying inside our sanctuary, freely available for anybody to take. We are endorsing this piece of absolute and utter garbage now with our advertising dollars.

Here's an excerpt from the front page! I hope you enjoy it exactly as much as I did! (not at all)
    Obama Must Go!

Since taking office the Obama administration has done more to destroy this country than any evil empire, including Nazi Germany, Japan, Russia and all the insane Islamic forces combined. Perhaps all he has done is not by evil design, however the results are the same.

Prior to being inaugurated on January 20, 2009 as the 44th president of the United States he began a crusade of convincing the world that we were facing a disastrous financial meltdown. He repeatedly attacked and viciously undermined all the Bush administration's attempts to respond to the economic slowdown that the country was facing during the campaign.

He refused to recognize that both houses of congress were controlled by his party and neglected to assign any responsibility to either Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the House or to Harry Reid, majority leader of the senate who were fighting slongside him in undermining President Bush. Together with a willing and powerful liberal media he was successful in manipulating the public opinion against the Republican Party and President Bush in particular. His campaign engaged in every low political trick ever conceived by any party -- including election tampering by his former partners in ACORN, Race Baiting, union unrest, gay issues, religious bias and societal differences just to mention a few.

Making things worse, the Republican party party nominated -- for the second failed time -- an old war hero that although being honorable was not very popular even within his own party. Together with an armada of energized black voters, fervent union members, joyous gays and determined liberals, Obama and a willingly obsessed Democratic congress swept into office with an outstanding majority of the votes.

Upon assuming office, we immediately saw our economic situation begin to deteriorate at an alarming rate. Obama sold the idea to his congress that a stimulus program of over seven hundred billion dollars was needed to keep unemployment from climbing above 8.5%. The stimulus program didn't work and the public still doesn't know where the money went. Then Obama and his congress went on to pass a health care law that by all accounts will destroy the finest health care system in the world and bankrupt the country in the process. Do I need to mention the buyout of the automobile industries that will never return all the money that was given them or the special concessions given to his union buddies?

Two years of unrestrained domination of both this country's executive and legislative branches left us with a more than 14 TRILLION dollar debt, a government controlled health care system, a severely crippled energy program for having stopped all drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and refusing to allow drilling where known sources exist, a porous and volatile border with drug cartels indiscriminately killing innocent citizens while the US Attorney General is suing the state of Arizona for trying to protect its citizens, an expensive "Alternate (GREEN) Energy" policy that is totally ineffective, a foreign policy of apologizing to every country in the world for us being such a bad country and in so doing showing a weakness that many perceive as an invitation to do us harm. Obama has even stated that; "We will not use nuclear weapons on any country unless they use them first." That's like telling a criminal that you have a big gun but won't use it unless he shoots you first.

Today we have a president that has, after several weeks delay, led us into another military engagement, this time in Libya. He has stated several times that the mission was for the purpose of protecting the citizens of Libya from the Crazed (sic) tyrant, Moammar Gadhafi. Obama has said that Gadhafi must go from power, however he made it clear that this operation was not to remove Gadhafi from power. Either there is a second operation to remove Gadhafi or there is a new strategic tactic yet to be revealed. The most troubling statement Obama has made is that he is planning to turn over command and control of the Libyan operation to some other country but he cannot say which country that might be.

(next section really is in all caps, I'm not doing this for emphasis)

THIS ACTION HAS BECOME THE LAST STRAW IN THE LONG LINE OF STUPID, IMMATURE, AND IDIOTIC THINGS THIS PRESIDENT HAS DONE.

Our country cannot withstand another twenty months of this Community Organizer destroying all that makes this country so great. It is now time for us to demand that he resign his office or face impeachment for being unfit to serve as President.

This thing was in our church. Time for me to start looking for another job.
