DDV, you aren't your old drawings, theres not a lot of reason to be embarrassed. I mean we all come from some where. My comic was me traveling through various video game/anime universes with the animu versions of my subconscious, which is pretty ridiculously plain and dorky. I also drew a few comics about kirby, and then later many more with me and my friends as kirby, doing looney toons style war with the administrators of the school. because fight the man, yo.
Im pretty sure I was still drawing faries in college, sooooo fuck you all. One day I'll redraw this
I wish I remembered what I was really imagining with those weird wolf dragon things.
I think I reached the height of my anime form with this image. It's just so delightfully overwrought, and based on my Ragnarok Online beta character no less. Thank you Wizards of the Coast and Bethesda for knocking me off that trajectory.
I would endorse a "pimp yo old shit" thread.

Back forever ago when I made the Aliens challenge thread, my original idea was to do a "Make a piece of fan-art for your younger-self" thread.
Not a "remake an old piece" thread, but more along the lines of, "If your younger self asked you to make them a piece of art based on a character they've created, what would you give them that would make them really happy."
I know for myself at least, my style preferences have shifted a lot. It would be interesting to revisit some of the aesthetics I thought were cool back in junior-high.
Get off the stage Tam that image isn't mortifying at all.

I brought home an old sketchpad from when I started art school in... 2005 or so of some self portraits I did in a mirror. They were horrible, they look like my face is melting and falling apart.
My mom, being my mom, rifled through my stuff, found the piece, and then took it back to her place where it now hangs in her living room, framed.
And every time I see it I want to take it down and burn it or at least hide it or something.
And every time my other family members see it and they're all "WOW, YOU'RE SUCH A GOOD ARTIST YOU SHOULD HAVE A GALLERY OR WORK FOR HALLMARK".

so in 2004 I got Dynamic Anatomy and was all POSES and simultaneously discoverd "oh man I can use Illustrator and NOW I DON'T HAVE TO DO INKS ANYMORE AWESOME"
or backgrounds
or hair, apparently
and I'm not sure what those shorts were supposed to be made out of
Love that shovel? Are the filled in holes a design choice or really lazy paint bucket work?
But yeah Rolo you win.
I believe I tried to take the front page of the paper in Adobe Pagemaker and then imported it into Photoshop, and then abused the fuck out of the distort text tool to try and get the text to line up with the newspaper I had drawn in.
And for some reason that caused those holes which I was promptly too lazy to correct.
okay last one:
it's 2002 and guess who just got "THE DC GUIDE TO INKING COMICS" and subsequently ran out to buy himself some india ink and the most expensive ink brush (like $60!) he could find? I'm totally inking like Todd McFarlane up in this bitch!
Cross hatching like a boss. Spike Spiegel like a boss. Not going to bother drawing feet/boots like a boss.
I thought about showing them some before/after shots of people's art before and after visiting an atelier (Cakemikz and loom come to mind immediately, and to a lesser extent Ikage. I don't think I've ever seen really early work out of AOB)
How early is "early"?
The earliest I have on me is mid-high-school level:
Aw yeah I thought I was such hot shit for drawing all those leaves on that tree. Looks like a floating mass of barnacles, really. Gotta love a shit attempt at DBZ eyes as well.
EDIT: I actually remember trying to redo this later on in college to see if I'd improved, but now ever THAT was like 8 years ago or something. I wonder if I've got that lying around as well.
Oh sweet I found it, even though that I had to install my deservedly disused copy of Painter 8 to open the file up:
I also found my first 2 speedpaintings ever (the first already has a several years later redo on it to boot!)
Boy photoshop textures are sweet, especially the ones that come pre-installed with the program! This shit is Craig Mullinsing all over the hizzy yo.
I think its like fact that we all started with anime.
I started with loony toons and calvin and hobbes.
Thats why everything I draw for the rest of time will have hue-fucking-mongous eyeballs. And why all my heads are just slightly too big... and, why I can't seem to draw people doing anything other than just standing around. YAY!!!
It wasn't until after high school that I started watching anime.
Ok so first was my first page in my first drawing pad,
second was a character i drew a year later i think or same time.
third was first pen canvas thing and using a wacom, once i had a play about to understand it.
and last is first photoshop thing
if you want textures on your work bacon go to filter: craquelere in photoshop
protips, i got em
speaking of craquelere
OHHHH SHIT PHOTOSHOP SPECIAL EFFEX
From Geocities: "Believe it or not - these pictures are NOT real photos. They are photo-realistic manipulations I created using Adobe Photoshop! The statue on the left? That's actually a picture of me!"
And then I auto-watermarked it 2003 even though it was made in 1998.

This is the most horrible piece of shit I could find on my hard drive.
According to the time stamp in was October 2007. Which would've been when I first started lurking on the AC.

I'm not sure the latter one really captures the spirit of the original.
