I wasn't specifically complaining about it being "like" the NGE. Just pointing out a coincidence. There are similarities, and the FPS mode is what drives the thought.

You know, I keep coming into this thread every few weeks to see if there's some vein in the conversation which makes me think that I absolutely need to dive headlong back into this game, but there's always a line like this.

Yeah, I'm done with this game. Tried to level a new character because I'd run out of interesting things with my Admiral... just cannot bear to go back through the process. The 'remastered' missions are more polished, but the core is still rotten.
Thanks Cryptic for taking a universe that I absolutely adore and making it a shallow boring grindfest. A few patches aren't going to fix this problem - this game needs a redesign from the ground up. Doubt I'll go back even if it goes f2p.

Are you asking me? I played with y'all a couple of times, and I'd agree you're fun folk, I just felt kind of bored. Like I was playing every fight the exact same way every time.
For frame of reference, this was in the first couple months post-release.
In other news, fighting the borg and needing a consumable is not necessaily the end of the world. We have melee weapons now, so it's not like energy weapons are required to defeat them. Honestly I'd be curious to see how far a 5 man team could get on infected using nothing but melee weapons.
The tribble notes were quite expansive. Looks like quite a bit of retooling of things. If it makes ground combat less teadious and mashing of 1, 1, 1, 1,1, 2, 1, 1, 1,1,1,1,1,1,11,1,2,1,2,1,21,2,1 I'll be happier with the gameplay as a whole.
Eitherway, they've got their heart in the right place.
In other news, my repalcement Fed Tac office should hit Commander by Wednesday/thursday if I get my nightly game time. Debating on starting up my replacement engineer, or slugging my way to VA first. I just hate my current engineer... Fixing so many mistakes with the character rebuilds.
Also, I'm starting to appreciate PvP more. Played 3 good rounds in a row today 5 on 5 vs. Klingons. Some close calls, but my ship proved to be quite a match. and jam targetting sensors is awesome for pissing them off. They start to lay into me, jam their sensors and they have to go hit on someone else... hehe...

Oh it's not a dig against this group of folks, more on the game in general. It just gets so horribly repetitive. There's only so much fun I can get from cruising around in a flying deathtrap, er escort.
I'm doing the exact same thing with my sci. He was my first character, and I loved the idea of science ships but I made so many mistakes. Sitting at CDR without the points to fix my boffs (and all of the boffs have shitty passives anyway). Got my tac to VA (making much wiser point investments along the way) and started to dick around in a science ship and realized that I should just make a new science captain and leave my tac as a proper escort-tac captain. The new science officer is at the end of LCDR and will be caught up with the original science captain pretty soon.
A big part of the problem is that my original sci captain didn't have a theme. My tac captain and all his boffs have identical uniforms and crew cuts and they look like a squad of space marines, it's cool. My new science captain has an enormous ghetto ass (hip slider to max) and his boffs are all well-endowed women in a combination of TOS mini-dresses and Seven of Nine catsuits. It's hilarious, he's the space pimp. Makes the game more fun.
I really want to get that advanced science vessel that has the Galaxy class saucer... but I probably won't be able to afford it.
And Jas, I dunno I'd you mean real people money or in game money, but I can lend you whatever energy credits you need.

That one can be had for real life money or exploration tokens.
You know how it is the first level you get it and it's actually kind of ok but tanks really fast from there? Well, the problem is, it doesn't benefit from the skills it's supposed to, and doesn't scale with higher ranks. It's supposed to be better when you first get it and remain proportionally around that good. There was a post a couple weeks ago that they felt even the fixed version was a bit weak and upped the base.
I didn't copy my engineer over in time while S4 was on tribble, but just based on what I know it should be fairly good.
Edit: Also, he is talking about the Nebula, but he also said Commander. The commander nebula is like the commander Excelsior, it's just EC, but it costs much more than a normal ship, like 250k.
250k is chump change to those of us with one or more captains sitting at VA.
My 3 alts are all close to a million each, just from auctioning overflow crap that my VA didn't have room to post at auction.
And man, let me just say there is a dearth of storyline missions. I have been doing episodes to fill in any time my storyline missions are above me in level. I'm LCDR 9 and I've already done all three episodes all the way through, and replayed all the Davidian and Breen missions at least once a piece, and several of them 2-3 times.
They could definitely stand to add some alternate story arcs to base missions.

Sounds like not until after the new Enterprise lands. Hard to piece together, but priority one the other day dStahl mentioned the Ambassador was one of the next two ships in the docket, and would be launched in game alongside a new featured episode, but not the next one.
I think he was talking about the Ambassador when he mentioned August to September, but I'd have to relisten to the podcast, he was talking about at least three different shpis in there.
If I can't get that one when I will get a cruiser.
The Admiral level nebula is 500 marks of exploration, which is a pretty hefty grind, even with trading down emblems. If you try to kill yourself to get it, you can do it in like 20 days, but it's really not worth going that hardcore for it.
Noticed something I didn't actually try on Tribble, the new fleet action queue system is really cool sounding. You can set the rank for the instance, and even set a password and get a fully private fleet action if you want. If it works exactly as said in the patch notes, it would be possible to set the rank to the lowest allowed for a zone and then go in alone as a VA and wreck the place for your trophy. I actually rather like doing that with Klingon Scout Force. Feels a bit exploitish, but the rewards are junk mk II gear, and with the queue system I'm not screwing random lowbies out of loot.

Also, the Nebula is going to be a lot less appealing at vice admiral than it is at commander. The intrepid refit is available at VA for regular energy credits, and it is extremely good. It's also extremely maneuverable, which the nebula isn't.
Man, I was in a group that had it down. 5%, everything under control... then some random chucklefuck zones in, hits evasive maneuvers, and ploughs through the middle of the fight with scatter volley firing. Boom, CE heals back up into phase 2 and all hope is lost.
Not sure if the CE would be soloable even with the level turned down, but at the very least, a prepared and organized fleet with a private instance would easily be able to manage it. It's not a difficult fight, just long, unintuitive, and requires everybody on board. Pretty much a raid boss from any MMO at heart. Exactly the sort of thing they should have implemented as an STF, not a fleet action.
Plus you feel like a complete badass flying into a mass of enemy and hitting fire at will and watch them all explode. I used to do that with noob level DSEs just for laughs.
Which is honestly what I'd like to see in the new Enterprise. Take the excelsior and make the ensign science. Even if the stardrive section (assuming they do keep the saucer separation idea) is slower than the Galaxy-R there would have to be some weird quirk to the ship to keep it from becoming my dream cruiser.
I'll reroll if I have to, but yeah, my boffs are all messed up atm.

Or do you mean a way to retrain them? You can change their skills. Common skills can be purchased for merits (yet another currency and yes, the game has far to many) at ESD and some other places. Other skills can be trained by green, blue, or purple BOFFs, or by captains of the right rank and skill. The fleet is relatively quiet now, because we're in a fallow period, but if you ask around in fleet chat you'll usually be able to find someone to train your off-track BOFFs for you.
I managed the CE once about a year ago when their was lots of people trying to do it. It was quite tedious and full of people spamming the chat window with conflicting ideas about what to do and yelling at people to stop doing what they were doing. I think by the time the CE went down I had about 30 shards following me and the other 3 or 4 kiters each, while everyone else stood to one side and peppered it with lots and lots of phasers
We were lucky because there were two guys who appeared to be equipped with nothing but mines that were setting up the worlds biggest minefield and trying to get shards to run into it. There was a lot of yelling at them to stop laying mines everywhere as it made kiting the shards a right pain!
Neato-o, I was just kinda annoyed with myself since I had wasted a ton of points on them while I was still getting the hang of the game and am now playing catchup with my boffs.
