and that's not really fair, since my ex is also a terrible partner and i shouldn't care
and i certainly find people attractive for a myriad of reasons, physical appearance being only part of it
and and she is very pretty, has beautiful eyes, and by no means is unhealthy or anything
i guess i'm just trying to figure out how to get over being marginally shallow when i know it's stupid because of deep-seated baggage about acceptable body types (since my ex basically said i was overweight and not attractive, thanks)
The difference between a friendship and relationship is attraction. You need to think about whether you are physically attracted to her enough, or if you just see her as a friend with a pretty face. Getting along is fine, but it needs more than that.
So have a think about it, its not being shallow if you're not attracted to her enough. If you are, great! If not, time to think about things.
It aint necesarily a sudden instant thing either tho red. I mean in my case I knew i thought my GF was pretty straight off, but the attraction between us was a... sortof slow growing thing. And she was definitely very different (in every sense) t the girl I dated before her
So yeah, think about it.. just keep in mind that what yuo also want is the potential for attraction, so dont overthink it as a bad thing if you're not already dazed and dizzy just thinking about her. But if you dont think you have that potential, yeah time to think about things.

If you're not attracted to someone you're unlikely to become attracted to them, and it's silly to stick overlong with a relationship that doesn't drain blood from your brain to your, erm, alternative reasoning center, regardless of its chromosomal configuration

it sounds more like Red is at least somewhat attracted to this person but is kinda weirded out by the fact that she's not what he's used to
I just mean, and excuse my vulgarity, and ignore this if you have some moral objection to sex before marriage or sex before a "serious relationship," but
maybe try slapping her titties around once or twice or whatever you're into before you decide whether it's something that's awkward because it's different or unappealing because you're not attracted to her
and if it's the latter, just bail. Ain't shame in that.
I'm getting a different vibe from that matter. I'm getting that Red has a little bit of emotional baggage from his ex, that's giving him a hard time ignoring her body type, whether or not he's attracted to her. It's kind of like if your parents raised you to believe that smoking was evil, and you met someone who smoked, even if it didn't actually bother you, you may have difficulty because of all the fucked up lung pictures your parents showed you when you were a kid.
