a forum uprising is when everyone says "no, fuck YOU mods!!!!!!" at the same time
and then what happens? Our forum is an oligarchy, and no one is ever really pissed off enough en masse to be any kind of threat to the board's activity.
And even if it was, penny arcade loses money with the forums.

they start a splinter forum that is inevitably forgotten
I think a forum uprising assumes a few things, though. Chiefly:
1) That the admin/mod team care what the forumers want
2) That the people running the site care a lot about the forum's existence
3) That the mods/admins feel compelled to keep the forum from being crappy.
I....don't see it working here. I mean, having just invested in Vanilla and new servers, I guess they'd want some form of return on their investment, but the mods/admins have their own, private board, so they could easily ban everybody and just go there to hang out.
Also, this place isn't really that shitty, or that bad. I mean, the worst it's been in years was the server problems, and that's about as good a reason for an uprising as you're going to get, and everybody was pretty much like, "Oh, cool. Okay. This sucks, but we know something's coming."
I just don't see an uprising...working...here. At worst it'd get trolled, and at best we'd be rid of a few people that we probably don't need around here anyway.
The forum is an investment. It doesn't make money on its own but they generate a lot of buzz and sales by having an active forum community.
It's true, though I wonder if switching out the banner at the top of pages for merch with some of their front page sponsors wouldn't help offset direct costs. No ridiculous Flash googobs popping up with every page load, but a static image or something.

Nothing happens! Ever! That's the best part! People get all bent out of shape about ADMIN ABOOSE and throw tantrums about their RIGHTS as POSTERS and it all dies down pretty quick
most often you see it in the summer when the college kids are home and bored and over winter breaks for the same reasons

Pop-up 30 second ads for papa johns every time you visit a new thread.
Rank's next act as Overlord should be to follow through on his threat and merge every thread in SE++ into one ultrathread
thread merging has gotten people de-modded before
although they were joke mods
That was a good day.
Was that a whining forum appearance or one of the holiday forums? Either way, those pages followed by Tube's reaction may have been the funniest thing I've ever seen on the forums.

god i know right???
could you imagine him singing you a bedtime story
case in point

The best thing about this is that it would never be expected, one day it'll just be "Welp, no more posting for us" and that'll be that.
I just came back from seeing "Cowboys and Aliens", and read all the threads that JetFalcon guy posted in the span of like, an hour.
Holy shit.
alt post: Dammit, I always miss the good stuff.

According to some quick googling, nope, assuming this is the URL, which is apparently for sale.
