Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

That actually isn't true. The M134, for example, fires 7.62mm rounds, and most similar weapons also fire rifle-caliber bullets. The "mini" is relative to larger gatling-style guns like the 20mm Vulcan cannon used in most US fighter aircraft.
Edit: Boooooogduuuuuud!!!!
You may be thinking of a "submachinegun" (sometimes called a "machine pistol," like the one in the game). A submachinegun (such as the real life MP5, or something like the M1 Thompson from World War 2) by definition uses handgun-caliber rounds, while strictly speaking a machinegun fires at least rifle-caliber rounds.

So through the sewers. Or...if you're lazy.
I went non-lethal and ghost for most missions. I also tried to hunt down all the possible routes in the level (even if I didn't particularly need them.)
"There is not a man of us who does not at times need a helping hand to be stretched out to him, and then shame upon him who will not stretch out the helping hand to his brother."
I think you may be able to use an explosive on the wall and have it only KO the guy while alarming the other, but haven't tried. Instead of punching through that wall, you can descend the fire escape and go up to the burning car or wherever you can overhear the two guys nearby talking. When they're done talking, I think one of them leaves (or left for whatever reason on my run, which was after hiding again after being seen and alarmed state after they yelled at me to go home), which makes it easy to sneak along the left path hugging the wall and around the semi trailer to the door. Or you could tranq rifle them, but that usually draws the crowd so you'll have to keep sniping. Alternatively: cloak.
Yeah, armor-piercing pistol is your best bet for realistic headshots. It still took two to down a heavy Ogre dude with only one damage upgrade, but probably isn't an issue at max.
Assuming it's the same reference he meant (may have been more than one):
My god this is terrible. It's like every bad Asian stereotype rolled into one moderately-sized map. The voice acting alone makes me want to take out my stealth pistol and shoot myself in the head (in the game).
Fun Fact: Those are not fake accents. Those are actual Chinese people.
"There is not a man of us who does not at times need a helping hand to be stretched out to him, and then shame upon him who will not stretch out the helping hand to his brother."
I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse.
I think it says something when people get all up in arms about a perceived slight on an ethnicity that is actually not a slight at all, but actual reality.
What else bothered you about that hub?
"There is not a man of us who does not at times need a helping hand to be stretched out to him, and then shame upon him who will not stretch out the helping hand to his brother."
Maggie Chen and Anna Navarre were voiced by the same white actress.
Also Drez you should totally sequence break and do everything in Maggie Chen's apartment before anything else.
Well, for one thing, Hong Kong is not equivalent to China. Also, Maggie Chow is not voiced by a native Chinese person - she is voiced by the same actress who voiced Anna Navarre and both the Russian and Chinese accents are heavily affected, but I don't blame her for that, I'm certain she was directed to do so. Also, what evidence is there that the Hong Kong hub voice actors are "native Chinese"? There is a thread about this on some other forum and there are the IMDB listings, but there is no evidence of this. The names credited on IMDB are all Asian names, but that doesn't mean they are "native Chinese" - if you have some other evidence, though, I am open to reading it.
The voice acting in the original Deus Ex is pretty bad. People don't know how to inflect anything in any accent or language present in the game. In fact, it is actually jarring when someone DOES inflect something properly. One example is Jaime Reyes who sounds like his voice was generated by a computer that didn't understand English. In fact, the only consistently believable inflection comes from enemy troopers that shout stuff like "there he is!" and "I see him!" and "fat guy in a little coat!" and so on. "I speel my drink!" is another example.
So, even if I am absolutely wrong that Hong Kong is just Asian Tropeville, that's still not really my fault considering I just played 10-or-so hours of a game filled to the brim with terrible voice acting and bad accent tropes.
As for my other criticisms, well I like the theme music while you are in Hong Kong but I did roll my eyes. Also, I have never been to Hong Kong so maybe it really is that cramped but fuck, they make it look like everything is either smooshed together or hidden in the corner of a sewer.
I think it has more to do with the voiceacting in the game being bad in general.
Edit: Beaten
I'm honestly confused as to what the proper sequence is. I spoke to Gordon and then went to Maggie's but I feel like I'm missing something. That's what the game suggests but something feels off to me.
You can pretend that in the future, Hong Kong has been turned into a theme park geared towards white westerners, and thus everything that seems like a horrible stereotype is really a clever deconstruction of Orientalism.
But if you go to the fifth floor and go through the chain link fence you can skip a step.
I think you're needlessly splitting hairs on that. Sometimes, in life, it's okay to make an assumption.

The proper sequence is to do what Maggie says when you go see her. You'll eventually get turned around back to Maggie's.
I did a sequence break like Arivia suggested. It only saves you some time, but not a whole hell of a lot.

AIs are a broken-out character category in writeups of Deus Ex's dramatis personae for a reason.
My HUD is completely gone, and I have no idea how to make it come back. No mini map, no quickbar, no health, nothing. No hotkeys to toggle and restarting the game or changing settings does nothing.
In fact, the quickbar itself doesn't even work. I can't switch weapons on the fly at all.
I occasionally have problems where the main menu won't allow me to do anything while everything else works fine.
Did you buy it from Steam? You can try verifying the game cache.
"There is not a man of us who does not at times need a helping hand to be stretched out to him, and then shame upon him who will not stretch out the helping hand to his brother."
Hahahah.
Actually I went through some chain link fence (GEP gun) and used a service elevator (multitool) and Maggie wasn't even there in her apartment. I was hella confused and got a headache, so I reloaded an old save.
Thanks.
DX1 or are you talking about HR? Because that happens in DX1 too, though there's no conversation. You can bug "Shannon" - one of the female NPCs in Unatco - in the ladies room the first time you enter UNATCO. She even says she is going to report you. And apparently she does - if you do enter the bathroom and talk to her before Mandeley's briefing, he will chastise you for doing so.
So if that's in HR too, I guess it's a call back to DX1.
GT: batshido Hit me up on ME3.
Nvidia control panel > Manage 3D settings
So the "fully upgrade one gun" achievement is surprisingly easy to get. I stuck 2 or 3 reload speed upgrades on my tranq rifle and it popped.
