Discovered today that i'd missed out one if statement, which invalidated all the work I did last week.

And I was so close to finishing my project!

    unit test?

Not quite. 'Survey edits' - rules that survey responses have to pass to be considered correct.

Missing out this one if statement caused me to flag >1000 more survey responses as having errors in them then I should have. Usually these responses are let straight through. Played havoc with my results, and fixing this pretty much reset them.

Man, running a business is weird.

Some time ago I thought I had fixed a customers modem only to have it cut out again like an hour after I left (I had gotten the money first though) so I said I'd come back another day over the phone, and I did and fixed the modem for real this time. I didn't want to take her money since it was my fuck up, but she insisted so I only took enough money for gas.
Then today another customer comes to pick up her laptop along with the invoice, and she also complained about my price. She complained that it was too low.

I don't even at all anymore. I was worried sick that people would complain that our prices were high, but low?

I wish charter would be more like this.

I'm lucky if I can get them to fix a mistake they refuse to admit was theirs. Giving me 3 broken modems in a row and forgetting to turn on my internet for a fucking week isn't some happy accident.

Yeah I live in a very small community, so I pretty much have to give great service or my reputation and the business goes downhill fast. Big Businesses usually don't need to worry as much, there's one ISP here who gives these annoying telewell modems for anyone using them. The reason the modems are so annoying is because they are overly complex for a home user and hell, even for me and the co-owner.

The charter in town doesn't even have a local number. If you want to get billing shit figured out you have to stop by or call their calling center full of people who are terrible at life.

Also, apparently connecting a router to one of their modems is a cardinal sin because I have to reset it 2-3 times a day.

I'll stop now before I write a book on how much I hate my internet provider.

Edit: I also recently found a local company that provides interwebz. I may have to check them out if charter keeps going full-retard on me.

Congrats man. It's awesome to ego search your name and have that come up.

Does your place give you a bonus or stock option for it?

can you guys recommend an online printing service for personal business cards? i was hoping for one of the free card sites, but given the selection, i'd like to hear about positive experiences from you guys.

i may also get hold of some card stock and try our printer. if anyone has advice on presentation/marketing a programmer who wants to get into the game industry, i'm all ears. my degree's in film theory, so i'm winging it with all this design stuff... (e:)'course, if i'd actually read one of my damn tabs, i'd see i found a good starter.

well, since i'm here -- i posted this in the design thread, but if anyone would like to give me feedback on my boyfriend's resume site, let me know and i'll pm the url to ya.

i see that Usagi and Six think well of Moo.com (googled an H/A thread.)

here's a quick list that Google's given me:

Interview soon. They want 2-3 references... most of my jobs have been at the university I went to, I worked at a couple different places there. So I'm going to give them the number for the H-R department.

I would call the factory I worked at.. but it was just for the summers of 08-09 and I doubt anybody remembers me there

Yea don't bother with summer jobs. Instead of the HR department, couldn't you ask someone who was actually working with you/was your actual boss? HR can probably only confirm that yes you worked there.

I asked the guy who was my boss and his response was "oh uh everything has to go through the HR department."

The thing went alright, they tested me for data entry and I did around 7000 keystrokes per hour alphanumeric entry and 10000+ with the numeric one. They said there is a second shift data entry job that is always looking to hire, so hopefully I hear back from them soon about that.

Called another temp place and since I don't have my degree yet or a current office job they aren't interested in me.

  • redfenixredfenix Registered User regular

@Artreus don't use the HR department as a reference. The company will probably check with those for your previous employers listed. Ask people that you worked with. And make sure they will give a decent statement for you. Maybe have a friend call them posing as a potential employer with a few questions. Make sure to use a different phone or block caller ID. :)

"How long did you work together?"
    "Were tasks complete efficiently?"
    "How did he approach challenges?"
"What was his attitude toward work, peers, management?"

    That sort of thing.

    Good luck.

If you need to use them, list people from the university (after asking their permission).
