Ghostbusters in theaters near you HALLOWEEN NIGHT!

E: check out the Ghostbusters Facebook page for dates and times.

Are you troubled by strange noises in...

This October, just in time for Halloween and allegedly just before they begin filming a third film in the franchise (with or without the consent of Bill Murray) Ghostbusters will be returning to theaters.

Regardless as to whether you love or are apathetic to the second or potential third film in the series, the original Ghostbusters manages to be one of the best things to ever come out of the 1980s aside from myself. The original Ghostbusters premiered in June of 1984 (just like yours truly) and cemented itself into the hearts and minds of everyone who ever saw it (unlike yours truly). It was a smash-hit and there are very few people in the entire world who cannot identify the iconic no-ghost logo of this fictional business which specializes in paranormal investigations and eliminations.

I can't be the only one who thinks "Los Cazafantasmas" sounds like a fucking awesome name!

From their Akihabra chapter, presumably.

I'm a pretty huge fan of the films, but where I got my start was the excellent cartoon produced in the 80s by Columbia Pictures Television and DiC enterprises.

Yes, I have the box set.

There was a toy line, a couple hit singles from the two soundtracks and a dedicated fanbase around the world who loves to get dressed-up in khaki or black flightsuits, strap their proton packs on their backs and drive their Ecto-1s around as modern-day Ghostbusters franchises.

6121619182_a41cd92a2d_b.jpg106ygzq.jpg

So when you're seein' things running through your head or an invisible man is sleeping in your bed, you know who to call.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyRqR56aCKc&feature=player_embedded

So who's gonna see this in theaters with me?

Also, post about times you maybe thought you saw a ghost in here if you want. It's nearly October and I figure I can get a jump on the creepy thread.

I just can't see them doing it any justice because the original movies were campy and awesome and you can't re-create that kind of shit. Any expectations for a third film should be recognized as a "new take" on Ghostbusters, save yourself the heartache.

Seriously, what if someone did a remake or a Top Gun sequel? You just.... can't play with that fire without very very very very very skilled hands.

I think Ghostbusters might genuinely be my favorite movie ever

Like, sure, I respect and love other movies more for different reasons

but out of every movie in the world, if it was playing on tv and you were flipping through the channels, what's the one movie you'd stop to watch no matter how many times you'd seen it before?

    for me, it's ghostbusters

When I was three years old, I fell in love. One of the first memories I have is seeing this and at some other point Beverly Hills Cop in theaters and just being overwhelmed with the desire to be a part of that world. Ghostbusters is the reason movies are such a big part of my life and part of the reason I'm an actor. Going to a movie can still have the same affect on me, make me forget I exist and pull me into a world that is far bigger and spectacular than this one.

Uhm, no what I was saying is that you should expect the movie to be so different that it should just be considered a "new take" on the film to save yourself the heartache of hoping for a proper sequel. I think i'm comfortable with those odds based on movie trends of this nature.

Now if they DID manage to pull enough magic out of their ass to make two (possibly three) new awesome Ghostbusters, I would totally support that. All it has to be is good, not asking for the Godfather here or anything.

Bill Murray did a pretty good interview with GQ here:

The parts where he talks about Ghostbusters 3 and Garfield are hilarious.

I have no faith in a new Ghostbusters movie. With that Blade Runner movie, someone genuinely excited about making a new Blade Runner is in charge and throwing out all sorts of new ideas to do something fresh. The only thing I've heard about this one is "We're making another one because money." And I'm sure if there was anything near a half decent script Bill Murray would be happy to be in it.

John Hodgman drops very specific hint that he was asked to be in Ghostbusters 3
“If you were hypothetically offered a role in Ghostbusters 3... would you take the role? Let's say you're [playing] sort of the dissolute son of Egon, the Harold Ramis character, and you're kind of like John Candy in Splash, you're kind of a mess. But it turns out you're a natural ghost-whisperer, a natural psychic. But here's the thing: Bill Murray's not going to be in this movie, and probably not happy that you are. But you get to be in a major role, in a major movie and one of the greatest franchises of all time. Would you do it?”

    i will see this movie.

Ghostbusters is my god damn favourite movie. I just hope it doesn't do what a lot of stuff has been doing lately and everything is about Shandor and the slime.
We get it the first movie did better and was liked better then the second. But you've dealt with Gozer and by a large Shandor. Do something else please.

Also kind of hoping the non arcade game that came out a couple of years ago is considered a thing, maybe referenced. It could be launching ground for a shitty tv series that lasts half a season that will then be cancelled and then reviled by the larger fanbase, but i'd love it.

If the movie cares at all about any previous Ghostbuster anything. It will probably be the first movie. I doubt anyone writing the screenplay exposed themselves to anything besides the movies.

And you don't want the screenwriters exposing themselves

Agreed, but for me it's Aliens. I don't care what I'm doing or looking for, if I found Aliens on a channel (back when I still had cable), that's what I was doing. Or, if I wasn't feeling lazy, it'd just inspire me to toss the dvd on.

Anyway, I'll totally see this in theatres, as it's fantastic.

I saw Ghostbusters 2 in theatres back when I was a kid. While overall it wasn't that bad (edit: in terms of being scary), I vaguely recall the screaming popup heads in the sewer or whatever it was freaking me out a little. GB1 is the vastly superior, imo, but I don't hate GB2 as a lot of people seem to.

Edit: According to Wikipedia, Ivan Reitman has stated that Sigourney Weaver will return for the third movie!

Yeah my drop everything and watch movie is Aliens as well. In fact it nearly drove me mad since at one point a different version was aired that included an extended scene of the sentry guns in the hallway scene. I saw that and was like whaaaa!? I thought I might have been crazy since no movie stores (pre-internet) I went to or people I asked knew what I was talking about and I never saw that version again. I never saw it again until the super special extended version was released years ago and it had that scene. I knew it had aired on Fox and I scoured the tv-guide (pre-internet) for every time Aliens showed for months hoping to see that scene and maybe even be able to record it.

    Sig to mucho Grande!
