although I do think it also may be a semi-intentional way of being like "i can not look anyone in the eye because since day 1 I'm living with an insane amount of guilt."
Edit: hahahaha oops.

Kind of makes me sad.
Should be a great episode. Bet that will happen at the end of next week though.

Also, speculation for next week's episode:
No, his game is announcing that he never wants to have sex with that woman.

I was kind of hoping he would show up during Woodbury, though. Not as the Governor, but maybe as one the higher-up lackeys.
All caught up with the comic and anxiously awaiting issue 91 with the rest of the world. What a fucking ride those 90 issues were. It's actually kind of nice to leave off on a high note (that will eventually come crashing hard and dropkick me in my soul) for a couple weeks while waiting for the next issue to come out (whenever that is).
The reason is that unlike Lori's death, I can't see how this factors at all into the story. Carl being disfigured feels like Kirkland was pressured to come up with another shock event to make up for the last few slow-paced issues.
I mean, I guess he could look kind of badass with the right eyepatch, but still....it pretty much reaffirms that the series hates hates HATES its characters.
I also can't conceive any way this will make it into the TV series...unless Carl is a teenager by that time (which is a possibility, given how slow paced it's moving).
Ironically, the bit with Rick and the wife and child was much worse than Shane shooting Otis in the TV series.

Disagree.
Wwwwhhhhyyy did you point this out?
He does it in rapid-fire succession during the funeral scene, and I can't help but notice it ever since you said something. It's absolutely driving me crazy.
Fffffuuuu
Maybe he didn't want to get her hopes up? I dunno, not the best reason but I can't come up with anything better.

Sacrifice a ham to save a water well.
.... I will admit I giggled when I saw the ham dangling in the air.

It forever shatters any sense of going back to the way things were that the town provided. Rick saw the town as Carl's last chance to have a "normal" life, but instead it forever took away any chance of that happening. The sole motivation Rick has for what he does is to protect his family, and all that's left of that family is Carl. If Carl never gets shot, Rick never defends the infirmary and never has his "eureka" moment.
From a writing perspective, Carl and Rick abandoning the town to go out on their own again would have been a huge undertaking story wise. It's assumed everyone aside from those outside would have died, and the remaining characters would yet again be searching for another place to stay. The series would catch heat about retreading the same old tired ground. Instead, Rick is anchored to the town and decides "no, enough of that" and resolves himself to making the town work.
Aren't there like 6 wells on the farm, though? And there was a Sparkletts truck on the highway.
I also get a feeling that by mentioning the gun training now, we'll see the zombies come out to the farm and make it unsafe, prompting the next move. In the comics the winter is what made the farm nice to live in for a bit but seeing how slow this is going, they need to show that the farm isn't as safe as it looks (and the barn houses the other zombies which will no doubt kill someone in the group like T-Dog).
