It's cool and I bet reviews probably outright say it too
But in the film it's treated as a major reveal about 2/3 of the way in
That also reminds me of when Maggie Gyllenhaal was on the Daily Show promoting The Dark Knight and Jon Stewart said something about her being in the next movie
I'm just happy Martin Scorsese is never content to just do the same thing over and over
Yeah, he's associated with violent crime movies but he also directed Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, KunDun, and The Last Temptation of Christ
You compare what he's doing with Clint Eastwood who recently directed what amounts to a one man play about J. Edgar Hoover and the difference is just stark in how much they are willing to step outside their comfort zones and explore new territory
isn't the hoover movie about his hidden relationship with his best friend for his whole life?
That doesn't sound much like gran torino or million dollar baby

I just mean it is, from all reviews I have seen, a very staid, austere drama
It just looked very boring to me and I just want to shout, "Try something new"
Also I'm just imagining a USA Today Article
Our President when he is not fighting the Civil War
So I enjoyed this, but thought it was too long and some of the comedy didn't really play for me. I also didn't start liking it until Michael Stuhlbarg showed up, but once he did man did it pick up.

It is strange how much this film is up my alley but how turned off I was by the trailer.

it makes me sad that this film is getting almost no attention and is probably going to end up a huge box office flop (it's only made $29m so far in its two weeks of release and cost "less than $150m to produce")
unless it somehow manages to beat out tin tin for the film people bring their kids to over the holidays, but that seems unlikely given the poor advertising this got and the excellent advertising tin tin is getting and the 200 million it's already made overseas
edit: oh and the muppets will still be in theaters of course
I think I'll go see this by myself next week. Jess usually doesn't go to see films in theaters unless it's something she's really psyched for. Like The Hobbit or Prometheus.

also I'm not sure how we feel about Miranda July here but I just saw The Future and it was weird as shit and I really liked it
The Future might actually flat-out kill @TheLovelyBastard if he ever saw it
I love Kristen Schaal

this is a video about the automaton in Hugo, which was a real working machine
(probably shouldn't watch this if you haven't seen the movie)
also here is a video of a real two hundred year old automaton making a drawing
