Living in Asia seems to be a pretty surefire cure to the not-knowing-chopsticks problem.
Muk is still incredibly hard to eat though. It's this Korean jelly made from acorns or other stuff and it is like the most embarrassing thing to try to chopstick. Stab it and it breaks apart, hold it too weakly and it slides off, too strong and it breaks and falls on the ground.
I have solved my problem by using a spoon, which half the time Koreans do anyway, so hah.
