Christmas party theme is "Paris High Fashion"... I am unsure how to proceed.

Searching the net for "high fashion" and similar criteria just gives me a really broad amount of data that runs from "fairly normal, business like" to "as weird as fashion can get". A friend of mine said that it generally means "Metro and slightly eccentric. Paris theme is usually black and red with polka dots or stripes for accent", but I have not talked to her in length about it for elaboration.

Would a black sportcoat/slacks + a striped tieless dress shirt fit this category?

Probably not. Are you guys in college? Is this a work party? The real answer would be haute couture clothes, only really viable if you are a millionaire playboy. http://www.vam.ac.uk/vastatic/microsites/1486_couture/exhibition.php.
Unless you are all a bunch of art or design students who could jerry-rig your own outfits, she can't possibly mean real paris high fashion, so the next step is to figure out what she really had in mind when she said it.

    Dang.
It's a work party. And they're limiting us to Black & White.

Any suggestions? I am completely in the dark here. Thanks in advance.

What kind of place do you work at?

Kind of shitty theme considering how much of a wide nebulous net that is.

Dress like Karl Lagerfield. Hes more a New York fashion icon than Paris, but who there is going to know the difference? Works with the black and white theme too.

Not true. He's all over the TV and in the magazines here in France.

But yeah, I doubt anyone at your work has any clue what "Paris high fashion" is. That would be a pretty broad term even here. Just dress up with a little flair and you'll be fine.

I work in a software company, so yeah, I (hopefully) think I'm not the only one scratching my head over this.

I'm going to go shopping for this, since I don't even have a dress jacket, and all I have are business attire and casual clothes.

I... don't think I can pull off the Karl Lagerfield look.

Is this supposed to be a serious theme or "haha"?

If its haha, you go avant garde. If its serious, go James Bond.

It's not "haha". At least I don't think it is... the past two party themes were Glam Rock and Hawaiian Beach party, and they were played straight.

I'd most likely end up looking like James Bond, if not going as him, in terms of attire.

My first thought was "breakfast at Tiffany's" then I had to double-check the sex of the OP. I'm just as stumped when it comes to male Paris high fashion.

This sounds like a fairly obnoxious degree of costume specification (especially adding the black/white requirement on top of Paris high fashion.

Just as a test, I tossed "haute couture" (the French term for high fashion) into google images, and got a lot of European fashion show models, and a number of them work with the black/white restriction. Here are a few that do:

As with most things fashion related, it's easier on the guys than the gals...

Just send an e-mail and ask if "Paris High Fashion" was just a fancy-shmancy way of saying you're supposed to dress all fancy-shmancy, or if it meant something specific/different.
