Pending some research/finalizing, I can presumably run a main soonish unless someone's ready before me.

Indeed. I've been checking in with people to see who is available to run next, but we will be having a week break regardless, with next signups going up at the tail end of the weekend, if someone is ready. If anyone out there does have a game ready and I haven't poked at you yet, let me know so I can put together the schedule.

My Fluxx mechanic seems much better suited to a mini, so I'm having a theme change to: 7

If no one else is going to do one, I can have mine ready for signups over the weekend.

I might have mine up soon too. I was thinking in a day or so, unless there's any objections(or someone beats me to it).

Well, whenever someone is ready, they should send me a PM. I don't know what the holiday forum situation is going to look like, but depending on pacing, we could either have one or two main games during the month of December. We'll see.

Question for you phalla pros - I'm going to be hosting an IRL game this weekend, and we're expecting 12 - 15 players to come. The majority will be newbies, so I was thinking 3 mafia/werewolves, 1 seer, 1 limited vig, and 1 limited guard (1 to 2 uses total over the course of the game). Any suggestions whether this makes for a good introduction to the game or if I should change the numbers around would be most appreciated.

The Looney Labs werewolf release comes with 2 werewolves, 1 seer, and villagers (for 7-15 players). They recommend making sure you have an odd number of players for each voting cycle, so if you start with an even number of players you let the werewolves kill someone during the first night. Also, having everyone slap their legs with their hand during night helps limit the possibility of night-noise exposing the werewolves. I think if you're introducing it to new players, best to keep it to the basics. (We used standard playing cards with 2-10 being village, ace as seer, and face cards as mafia, back in the day.)

Here's an update for those whomight be interested:

We ended up with 11 players, plus a narrator so we were set for a great introduction to the game. First round was 2 wolves and 9 vanillagers. Each round we added a role; first up was the little girl (allowed to peek during werewolf phase); next was seer; then witch (one use vig and guard with "potions"); hunter (gets a kill upon death); cupid (makes 2 players "lovers" - they must survive to the end as a pair); and thief (gets a pick between 2 leftover roles not handed out).

As the complexity of the roles increased, the wolves' chances diminished dramatically. Wolves won first 3 nights, but never even made it close for the last 4 as the new players learned how to think more critically about who to vote off.

Super fun night. I would recommend not playing with little girl, cupid or thief. Little girl ended up being broken by a player in the last round. Instead of "peaking", she opened her eyes fully. The wolves were confused and she faked being a wolf and ratted em out on day 1. Sorta cheating in the most strict interpretation of the rules, but wide open eyes are still sort of peaking.

We have opted to keep that role out in future games.

We currently have no games running, and nobody currently ready. I don't know if there's enough time to get signups and a full game in for a main game before the big end-of-year holiday week, but there's certainly plenty of time for people to run mini phallas. There shouldn't be any problem with running a game, but you can check in with me for scheduling if desired.

Well, you should understand that what with Christmas approaching in less than 11 days, your game will be running directly into the holiday week. Endgame will be right at that time, accounting for a 3-day signup period. I will suggest holding off on running right at this moment, but if you understand the risks, I don't think I should stand in your way...

Also, nobody actually contacted me about running their games, but I guess that's okay...

  • cj iwakuracj iwakura The Rhythm Rogue Coral Springs, FLRegistered User regular
I think it's viable. This shouldn't be particularly large scale or chaotic.
    At least I doubt it.

    Quick question for the pros:

Would you consider the use of a unique word from a role pm to confirm someone's identity to be "quoting role PMs"?

For example, your role: "You are a snarfle. You feel that those nasty snuffles are up to no good. Primary win condition: Clean up those snuffles!"

And you say "snuffles are up to no good" in a PM to confirm yourself. Or what about the word "clean"?

  • SpoitSpoit *twitch twitch* Registered User regular
I think that it's allowed, but kind of in bad taste. Though that's why the villager PM in usually disclosed.

    camo_sig2.png
  • romanqwertyromanqwerty Registered User regular
Yeah i would think that the former is fine, but the latter starts to dive into rulebreaking territory. Basically if you're trying to use wording of any kind to confirm identities that starts to be against the spirit of things.
