Once the hero of the backlog challenge, I am now terrible at this. On the other hand, this 3DS and stack of various games are very shiny.

Damn it, it's fucking noon. I demand to know if Yami shit on a desk yet.

Revamped my list. Removed Wii, PSN and PSP games, as I simply don't play them anymore and don't get much time to game anyway. Since I last updated this list, I've bought Rage, Dragon Age 2, Resistance 3, Uncharted 3 and Batman Arkham City. Of those I've beaten Uncharted 3 and Rage.

I've also marked any games that I now have no interest in finishing anymore, but am reluctant to trade in, in red. These include The Witcher, littlebigplanet, Valkyria Chronicles and Heavenly Sword. I suspect I'll be falling off the wagon again next month for Space Marine, since my fiancee is buying me a 3D LED monitor, and I want something cool to play on it.

Is it "wrong" from a backlog perspective to remove games that you simply have no interest in beating anymore? For example, I have Left 4 Dead 2 on 360. Was not a fan of it. Does that still technically exist in my backlog, since I haven't beaten it, nor exactly care to?

I struggled with this as well. I have about 6 or 7 games that I either played enough to get my money’s worth or just didn’t like enough to continue. I didn’t like the idea of calling those “Completed”, so I just moved them to my “Removed” list – they’re off my backlog, but still not truly beaten. If I actually ever finish all the games I own (HAHA), I can revisit them and give them another shot.

My backlog has been devastated by new purchases. I once stood strong. Now? Not so much. Steam sale coming up in a few weeks will end me. :( We almost need a "Born Again" Backlog Challenge to start in January.

I don't think it's wrong. I've listed stuff as "completed" that I knew I'd never come back to play. To me, "completed" is either beating the game or getting to the point where you personally are done with the game. It might make more sense to just remove them from the list instead of calling them completed, but it's up to you.

To me, 'completed' means that I've played the game as much as I intend to. Whether that's playing Oblivion for half an hour and saying fuck this shit, or spending hundreds of hours finding every little secret, 'completed' means that I've put it in a box, put the box in a cupboard, and I doubt I'll be getting it out again for at least a year.

If you feel you've "completed" it, call it completed.
If you don't, but don't want to play it, just yank it or cross it off.

    Making some progress here.

I killed my backlog dead in 2011. Now its just games I kinda want to replay versus the time it takes to actually replay them which in some ways is actually worse.

Since beating OB 64 after getting it for christmas in 2000 I've failed about seven attempts to replay it. The failure isn't the bad part, its that all of those playthroughs have been between 40-70 hours of not beating the game!

Steam Sale on Black Friday caught me completely off-guard, including a midweek madness. Adding Bastion, Fallout: New Vegas, and Dead Space 2 ($5 each! I couldn't resist!)
In other news, it seems I purchased Braid on the Xbox and completely forgot about it; never even played.

Finished Arkham City though. I truly wasn't expecting it to be that much better. It's like Rocksteady decided to take a whole cake of Arkham Asylum, and then stack another cake-worth of content on top of that first cake. Really good challenge, really fun to play, excellent story and characters, tons of villains added. Playing as Catwoman is completely different from Batman, but still amazingly fun. You must play it!

    Damn.

I was doing pretty well on my backlog throughout the middle of 2011. Managed to minimize my !FallOffTheWagons and actually finish some games. Got my backlog down to 16 or so games with an actual end in sight.

    Then I got Dark Souls.

I’ve put 70 hours into it, and I’m still probably 15-20 away from beating it. It’s basically all I played during October and November. No progress at all on other games, so my backlog didn’t go down at all. Then, with Black Friday/end of the year deals popping up, I !FellOffTheWagon a few times. Once I fell off, I’ve just said screw it and fell way off.

In the past 2 weeks, I’ve bought/received 19 games. I’ve more than doubled my backlog.

Now, most of them are gifts from others for Christmas, and with the insane deals I’ve gotten on the rest, I actually haven’t spent a ton of money. Time-wise, though, I’ve added about 9 months onto my estimated backlog completion time. Here’s the damage since the last time I posted, which was way back in September:

    10/2 Beat Assassin’s Creed II
10/5 Bought Dark Souls ($50, the most I’ve spend on a game in probably 2 years)
11/15 Bought Assassin’s Creed Revelations ($10, was trying to buy AssBro but Best Buy gave me the wrong one and the person picking it up for me didn’t notice)
11/28 Bought Might & Magic, Outland, Limbo, and Akimi Village (all half off, so $25 total during the PSN Fall Sale)
12/6 Received Saints Row the Third (which includes SR2), Ico/SotC Collection, and Resistance (B2G1Free sale at Best Buy, $80 total, early Christmas present from my parents)
    12/8 Bought AssBro, infamous 2, and Driver SF (Gamestop’s B2G1Free, $60 total)
12/14 Bought Sly Collection (Best Buy, $12)
12/25 Will receive Uncharted 3, Batman: Arkham City, Skylanders, and LEGO Harry Potter 5-7 (all gifts for Christmas, many bought for cheap on Black Friday)

I’m powering my way through The Ballad of Gay Tony in preparation for all the other open world games I’ve now got in my backlog, and I’m trying to knock out some PSN games as well (Monkey Island 2, Akimi Village) so that I can get going on some smaller games too. Luckily for my backlog, my wife and kids are heading to my in-laws for Christmas this weekend (a week before I am), so I’ll have a full week where I can do nothing but play games after work, not needing to wait until the kids go to bed. My goal is to have Dark Souls, MI2, Akimi Village, and TBoTG all done before the end of next week.

I finished Monkey Island 2 Special Edition last night. Didn’t enjoy it. I spent the majority of it following a guide because I have no damn idea how some of those puzzles are supposed to be figured out without help. Did everyone just spend 40 hours trial-and-erroring every combination of items and locations? Is this because the original Monkey Island games are from a different time, and more current adventure games are better at guiding your progress? I still have Back To The Future on my backlog; I’m wondering if my experience will be similar.

Back To The Future was easier than the other Tell Tale games. You'd have a time where you'll need a guide, but the hints in-game are often helpful enough to be sufficient. I beat the entire series in around 8 hours.

Being a bachelor the past few days has certainly helped with my backlog.

I beat The Ballad of Gay Tony and Akimi Village. I liked both. I was hoping TBoGT would have had an ending with more, umm, substance I guess (similar to RDR and LA Noire) and the GTA4 gameplay is starting to show its age, but I liked the missions and the characters a lot. Akimi Village was good too, but my game kept freezing for some reason, making it take longer to finish than it should have.

I'm not going to finish Dark Souls before I leave tomorrow for the holidays, and when I get back it'll be sharing time with a bunch of new AAA titles (Arkham City probably). 70+ hours in and I still love it though.

It's the time of year where I start my backlog over again, removing the games I finished and adding the ones I got for Christmas. Some of these games have been on my backlog for years.

    2012 Backlog: 0/12

    DS:
Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - in the Ocean Sanctuary
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - STILL not started
Dragonball Origins 2 - also not started
Professor Layton and the Last Specter - Chapter 8
    9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors - not started

    Wii:
Little King's Story - able to battle four kings at any time
deBlob 2 - beat two levels
Opoona - on the 2nd dome
Tale of Symphonia 2 - I got Genis and Raine in my party...
Monster Hunter Tri - I caught a fish once
Rune Factory Tides of Destiny - not started
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - beat dungeon 4

Bonus Round: I didn't include VC or WiiWare/DSWare games on this list for no other reason than to artificially reduce the size. But since downloaded games are the future, I might as well include them too. This increases my backlog significantly and some of these games I don't care if I finish or not. Nevertheless:

    Super Mario Bros 2
    Startropics
    Metroid
    Legend of Zelda II

    Yoshi's Island
    Super Metroid
    Donkey Kong Country

    Metroid Fusion
    Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
    Wario Land 4

    Mega Man 9
    And Yet It Moves
    Pucca's Kisses Game (hell yes)

    Zenonia
    Picdun
    Puzzle Quest

Probably others that I'm forgetting or not counting. I may update this again later.

Okay, I'm going to clear out my complete games (was at 96 "completed", which over a span of 2+ years is pretty decent) and start at 0, just for organization's sake. And as you can see, the majority of my home gaming is going to be switching to PC.

I first signed up in July and haven't updated since then. Unfortunately I'm still playing the same games (Tiger Woods 12 The Masters and Dragon Quest IX) and have started playing Infamous. One good thing is I haven't purchased a game since June. I did receive 4 games for Christmas (Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition, Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga, Left 4 Dead and Batman: Arkham City) and purchased Chrono Cross on PSN using points I had from last Christmas.

Hoping in the next month or so I can actually put a 1 in the finished column out of the 135 unfinished games I own. And I think I will just get some DLC with XBLA points I received for Christmas (mostly ME2 that I haven't done yet).

Alright, so, sales happened. I was fine. Then I got my new hardware in, and then I realized I could go back to running and maxing out games. Right about then something snapped, and, well, y'know you'll see for yourselves. Here's the things I bought or received over the holidays, and the ones I've already beaten are marked as such.

    Batman: Arkham City
    Battlefield 3
    Bulletstorm
    Bunch of Heroes
    Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    Dungeons: The Dark Lord
    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
    E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy
    L.A. Noire
    Puzzle Agent 2
    RAGE
    Section 8: Prejudice
    Space Pirates and Zombies
    Star Wars: Republic Commando
    Super Mario 3D Land
    Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

Not a real update, since it was never on my backlog to begin with because it's DLC, but I beat RDR Undead Nightmare a few nights ago. It was nice revisiting the world, but the missions were very fetchquest-y and I had to check a wiki to see if I had actually finished it. It was ok, I guess.

I'm juggling a bunch of games right now. Arkham City is more Arkham Asylum (a good thing), Skylanders is suprisingly fun, and PixelJunk Shooter 2 is, umm, hard.

I have failed miserably at the Backlog challenge. In the PC gaming world alone, before August (when I bought my new PC) - I had 6 games in my Steam library. As of today, I have 134. Plus I bought Starcraft 2 and Battlefield 3. *sigh* Right now have probably 160+ games in the backlog if I tally up all the platforms.

For my 2012 "Backlog Assault" campaign, I am going to break this behemoth down to small, manageable chunks. First I am going to focus on 360 games I have out on loan from friends. This backlog series contains only a few games, noted below.

    360 Games - Loaned Copies Series (0/3)

    Dragon Age: Origins
    Red Dead Redemption
    Crackdown

I'll start this series after completing two leftover games from Christmastime, noted in my Backloggery signature.

After playing two levels of Lego Batman, I've decided that it would be a lot more fun to play completely in local co-op. Since I can't do that right now, it's going on the backburner. I originally left New Super Mario Bros Wii off of the Gift Backlog for that reason.

    !Update 2/84

Finished the main ending of Sequence. I'll be coming back to it soon to finish the "hidden" ending which I've unlocked, but I have to grind a little to do it, and that grinding is a bit tedious. Also finished Mario Kart 7 in that I won each of the cups at least once, though that's one that I'll be playing online fairly regularly.

I've been putting off signing up. But, the longer I put it off, the longer the task goes unfinished. So I decided to sign up, even though I know I'll fall off the wagon for Devil Survivor 2. And maybe Xenoblade.

This is only including things I have in my house now. My N64 games are elsewhere, I have some DS games on loan, and I can no longer play my XBLA games because my brother moved out and the XBox was his. I can't play ANY XBox games, for that matter, which should at least cut down on my new purchases for a while. Not that I purchase games often. I think I bought like 4 games last year, and I'm almost done with two of them (Dissidia 2 and P3P.)

    Anyway, let's do this.
