Small week, but I should be receiving Old City Blues on Wednesday, too. Someone tweeted the links to the two-part (1, 2) sequel, and then I read David Brothers' review, which sold me on buying the thing.

What I read of it reminds me of that time period when I was a kid, and manga and anime were just starting to gain traction, and it all felt very new, and dangerous. It really took me back to the time when I first discovered Dark Horse reprints of stuff like Tank Police, or watching an old VHS of Robotech.

Excited to see Remender's take on Secret Avengers too, though I wish Hardman was going to be drawing the .1 issue. Can't get enough of that guy's art.

edit: Maybe I should buy Transformers too, to make Anti happy.

I just saw an interview with the artist for Robots In Disguise. When asked how to describe it, he said the setting is like Transformers meets Deadwood or Rome.

Q. Everyone on the respective teams (RiD and MTMTE) seem really excited about the titles they're working on. What about RiD are you most excited about? What would you suggest readers look out for?

Character. Not to suggest that it's been otherwise in the past, but John and James seem to really have a strong grasp on their respective characters. And the stories are really driven by the characters, as it should be. As he's been doing since the beginning of the Ongoing, Bumbleebee is really struggling to step out from under Prime's shadow and become a successful leader himself. All the while, Prowl is being Prowl. I think a telling moment for him was in MTMTE #1, where he was going off on Chromedome for thinking that the fighting ends when the war does. Old habits die hard for Prowl. And what John is doing with Starscream is great. I mean what better scenario for a character like Starscream than one where a new government is being established and new allegiances are being drawn. All the while, these familiar characters are dealing with a situation that's entirely new to the Transformers franchise, and the surprise and drama comes from how they react to this new reality. To me, RID is Deadwood meets Transformers. And it's a hoot!

Q. More than Meets the Eye seems to be going in a "space adventures" direction. Would you say Robots in Disguise focuses more on political aspects, or can we expect a lot of action and other events as well?

Not to be repetitive, but if MTMTE is Transformers meets Star Trek, then I would really see RID as Transformers meets Deadwood. Or maybe RID meets Rome. For me, as I've been drawing this I really have had those two HBO series in mind for how this book should look and feel, the sense of an untamed and rapidly growing settlement with different interests competing for influence. There is definitely a political drama going on, but don't expect it to be short on action and excitement. John made very clear when we started working on this that this wouldn't be Senatorial sausage-making! Expect new conflicts, action, and surprises!

Aquaboss, Flash, Secret Avengers and Thor

Hopefully this month Thor will actually be in his own book more than Loki. I don't hate the new version of that character, but I am a little tired of seeing him in Thor's book. He has his own series, and I really would prefer to read about the titular character.

I keep seeing these teasers in other comics for Deadpool #50, with the word "Dead" written in that font that Deadpool's name is written with on covers. I stopped following Way's run some time ago; where is this "dead" thing heading? Are they actually going to kill him? I'm trying to remember how I felt about him dying in his first ongoing series, but I read that stuff a while ago, and it's a bit of a blank. I just remember T-Ray being an agent of Thanos and having mystical powers, multiple Deadpool personality fragments, and I also remember feeling very eye-rolly about a lot of what went on with that arc.
