People are STILL buying a shit ton of guns because they're convinced Obama gonna take 'em away.

It's not people buying guns that are the problem it's people buying ammo, that shit's gotten expensive! Two wars plus whackos, how's a guy supposed to afford his target plinking habit...

And the circle route - Förbifart Stockholm?

It got a green light 26 years ago. Then politics happened. The transport situation has continued to suck for 26 years since then. And now it has a green light again.

What happened during those years? Not a single god damn thing. It's just an inert hostility to actually doing anything.

Well look at Boston and the Big Dig. Conceived in the early 70's, planned in the 80's, started in 1991, slated to be finished in 1998, not officially finished until 2007, cost... 10x the original estimate I believe. And then concrete cladding on the ceiling and light fixtures started falling and killing people, and the thing leaked like a sieve. Sometimes gridlock is preferable to the alternative.

the big dig is awesome. i can't imagine trying to get through boston without it.

that said, i'm glad that i moved here after it was completed and didn't have to pay for it.

This circle route now involves a tunnel that will be about thirty times longer than any ever built here. I think the projected cost has risen by hundreds of billions.

It sounds like the planned expansion of Chicago's subway/El system. In it's current state, it's a spoke-and-wheel system, minus the wheel. Everything emanates from a central hub, but none of the spokes are connected. A line that was meant to connect all the spokes has been planned for 2 decades or something, but they can never find the funding, or complain that it would mean relocating too many people. In the meantime, if you want to go from the north side of Chicago out to O'Hare airport, you have to go all the way down into the city and then all the way back out, a 2.5 hour train trip that takes 45 minutes in a car.

they've been trying to get a "purple line" around DC's beltway for more years than I've been alive I think.

i think our nation has lost the collective will and ability to do anything like a large-scale civic project. literally the last major civil engineering feat i can think of in the US was boston's big dig.

i mean it was way over budget and compromised and poorly-managed but at least it actually got built. i can't thing of anything else that can compare in the US

Rage is basically a tech demo for the id5 engine or whatever it is. The plot goes nowhere, the game takes maybe 4 hours. I haven't played the first two. Metro 2033 was very fun, if tedious in spots.

Yep, lately any time anyone tries to do something that would actually benefit the transportation system it gets bogged down in courts and funding. This country should be the goddamn king of high speed rail. Instead you pay more for an Amtrak ticket than a plane ticket. Obama tries to push high speed rail in the southwest and people act like he wants to burn down the auto industry.
